RENT Project
Project Overview
==PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU AUDITION!!!==
Welcome to the RENT Project! Before you take a look at the audition, I have a few things of note that I would like to say first.
Why RENT? Why choose to do a project of this kind at this point in time? Well, even ignoring current events, and the fact that this is one of my all-time favorite musicals, there is a bit more of a personal reason I am choosing to take on this kind of project for this musical. You see, my grandmother was a big fan of the opera, "La Boheme," which "RENT" was originally adapted from. However, she sadly passed away last July, and so I made a promise to her shortly after the funeral that I would do this project in honor of her. Now, at this point in history, I see no better time than now to keep that promise. But I can't do it alone. That's where you guys come in.
What is the RENT Project? I want to release a series of covers of every song from the show. For this project we will specifically use the movie's soundtrack, as I am far more familiar with that one. All instrumentals will be custom-made and recreated by instrumentalist (see first update below). All covers will be posted to a specific, designated YouTube channel (this one: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVclBpCSQOsfnG9fCu3I7Mw?view_as=subscriber) once they are finished. Whether they will be done in order, though, is yet to be determined.
PLEASE NOTE: This is an unpaid, long-term fan project that requires time, patience and commitment. There is no set deadline for when the project as a whole should be completed, but there will be smaller deadlines in between for vocals, artwork, etc. If you feel that you would be unable to meet those deadlines, do not audition for this project.
Who will be cast? All roles listed below will be filled by the deadline except for Joanne, who will be voiced by me.
How can I audition? Take a look at the roles listed below and choose which ones you want to audition for, who you think would fit your vocal range the best. You can audition for as many characters as you like. When you've decided which characters you want to audition for, take a look at the audition cut for that character, as well as the YouTube link and timestamps posted for them. Memorize that cut as best as you can before you hit record. ACAPELLA SUBMISSIONS ONLY!!!
Other important requirements:
You MUST have a good, QUALITY microphone and recording setup to be cast!
You MUST have a Discord! We will have an individual server for this project in which we will communicate and work with each other on different aspects of this project, so it is essential that you have an account!
As stated above, you MUST be willing to commit to a long term project!
Any questions, comments or concerns? Feel free to hit me up! You can reach me via email at [redacted], PM me, or just leave a comment down below, and I will try to respond to you as soon as I possibly can!
Thanks so much for reading all the way through, and I look forward to seeing all your auditions!!! :)

Hey everyone, It's Lulu. Sorry if I'm a little late in doing this (depending on your timezone), but I wanted to type up an update for the deadline as promised in the previous update. First and foremost, I have indeed decided to extend the deadline (by a week, until March 17th) for auditions for this project, mostly because I want to give as many people a chance to audition as possible, and because I want to fill every role listed. That being said, you are still free to audition for any character you choose, but this week I will specifically be looking for someone to play Collins, as he is the only character I have not received any auditions for yet. I will also be continuing the search for an artist and an instrumentalist, in addition to casting other roles. Speaking of which, casting is officially underway! So far, the only roles cast are Mark and Mimi, but I can promise you that that will change throughout the course of the week, so if there is a specific character you want to audition for that you haven't yet, please do so as soon as possible so that I can take you into consideration when casting! I think that's about it for me. If you have any other questions, comments or concerns, feel free to PM me or leave a comment on this project and let me know! Thank you all so much for all your patience on this project! Stay safe, and always remember, no day but today!~ -Lulu

1 week left to audition + General info about next steps!
Hey, everybody! This is Lulu. Well, this is it! The final week of auditions!!! (or is it? (more on that later)) I'm really impressed with what I've seen so far, and to everyone who has already submitted an audition, great job! I applaud you! If you have not submitted an audition yet, and you are still interested in doing so, please by all means, go ahead! I'd still love to see what you can bring to the table! ^^ So, what's next? When will I start casting people and how will you know if you have been cast? Well, that's where it gets kinda complicated. I did say that this may or may not be the final week for auditions and that's because I have heavily debated whether or not to extend the deadline because of the fact that there are still characters I have not received any auditions for yet. This extension would not be long (only a week or 2), but it would give more people a chance to audition for the characters they want - or those who have already auditioned a chance to audition for another character, if they desire to do so. Over the course of this week, I will think it over and play it by ear, and on May 10th (the date of the original deadline) I will make an announcement of whether or not the deadline will be extended. No matter what decision I come to, though, that will also be the same day I will officially start casting people in some of the roles. So, how will that work exactly? Well, for most of this week, I am actually going to be fairly preoccupied with finals, moving out of my dorm and flying back to my home state from college, but around the end of the week (think maybe around Thursday or Friday-Sunday), I will start going through all the auditions/applications I have received so far and narrowing down my final choices. On May 10th, I will officially start casting people in the roles I have chosen for them, and contacting them through PM here on CCC sometime next week to let them know they have been cast and start inviting them to the Discord server. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Even if you are not cast in the project, you will still receive a PM from me sometime next week letting you know. I don't want to leave anyone hanging for a role, especially if it's a role that they really wanted! Well, I think that about covers it for me! Thank you all again so much for your patience and enthusiasm with this project. Keep an eye on your PM's sometime next week, and I'm excited to hopefully get started on this really soon! Stay safe out there, everyone, for there is no day but today <3 Talk to y'all soon! -Lulu -
New role added! - Instrumentalist
Hey, guys! So, so far we have not had very many people audition, but I am hoping that will change very soon. In the meantime, I have an update as to how musical accompaniment will be handled for this project. Initially, I was going to create all of the instrumentals through a site called Phonicmind.com, which is a website that takes any song and strips away the vocals and anything else you want from it cleanly. Unfortunately, the final products did not sound clean at all, and in fact turned out to... less than satisfactory results. So, in the interest of having a cleaner sound, and providing more opportunities to budding musicians out there, I have decided to add a new role for an instrumentalist who will help us recreate the soundtrack for our musical accompaniment. More info can be found in the role below, so go take a look at it, and if you're interested, and think you'd qualify, go ahead and apply! I'd love to hear what you've got! ;) Thanks for being patient with us, guys, and remember, no day but today <3 -Lulu

(sung) Christmas Eve last year
How could a night so frozen be so scalding hot?
How could a morning this mild be so raw?
Why are entire years strewn on the cutting room floor of memories
When single frames from one magic night forever flicker in close-up
On the 3D IMAX of my mind?
(spoken) That's poetic. That's pathetic.

Glory
In the eyes of a young girl

Time dies

One blaze of glory (x2)

I always get in for free
You can get in, too

But sweet kisses I've got to spare
I'll be there, and I'll cover you
Oh
I think they meant it
When you said you can't buy love
Now I know you can rent it
A new lease you are my love
On life
All my life

(spoken) It was my lucky day today
On Avenue A, when a lady in a limousine drove my way
She said, "Darling, be a dear, haven't slept in a year,
I need your help to make my neighbor's yapping dog disappear."
This akita, Evita, just won't shut up.
I believe if you play non-stop that pup
Will breathe it's very last high strung breath
I'm certain that cur will bark itself to death
(sung) Today 4 U
Tomorrow for me (x2)
We agreed on a fee
A thousand dollars guaranteed
Tax free
(spoken) And a bonus if I trim her tree.
(sung) Now who could fortell
That it would go so well
But sure as I am here
That dog is now in doggy hell
(spoken) After an hour, Evita,
In all her glory
On the window ledge of that 23rd story
(sung) Like Thelma and Louise did
When they got the blues
Swan dove into the courtyard
Of the Gracie Mews

Only thing to do is jump over the moon

You'll see, the beauty of a studio
That lets us do our work and get paid
With condos on the top
Whose rent keeps open our shop
Just stop the protest and you'll have it made
You'll see
Or you'll pack
