Red & Blue [an Audio Drama]
Project Overview
INTRODUCTION
Heyooo! I’m Sophie! My pronouns are she/they. I am a 17-year-old writer and voice actor. I have always had a passion for writing, and I am planning to do this sort of thing in college. This is a perfect opportunity for me to hone my writing and production skills. Thank you for taking time to read this, and hopefully you’ll audition!
STORYLINE SYNOPSIS
Moving from state to state due to her fathers employment in the military, Violet is used to moving schools constantly. She did not think anything of it when moving to Nebraska. She has always been against the idea of friends because she sees no point in them. On the first day of school, her entire world changed when she ran into the class clown: Nate. Will they become friends? More than friends? Enemies? Anything can happen.
GENERAL INFO:
The running time for this should be approximately 20 minutes, but that is very flexible and most likely will change. I will edit and submit the project to YouTube. My YouTube channel is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSwdyyAwJ5sW8BeD9_L8LJQ/featured . I have no posts because I restarted, but feel free to leave a sub!
This is an audio drama project, meaning there will be no visuals, similar to a podcast or audio book.
VOICE ACTING INFO:
Most of the accents of these characters should be American accents, with the exception of the narrator (I do not mind any accent for them). Other than that, there is a great amount of flexibility you can use. Get creative with it, and have fun.
Make sure to submit a file with your audition saying all of the lines given for the character you are auditioning for. There should be no background noise, and I should be able to hear you clearly. Edit out any outtakes you do. I should only be able to hear your best take of the lines.
You also MUST have discord, and SUBMIT YOUR DISCORD with your audition. Discord will be the main source of communication between you and I, and it will be fun for you to connect with other voice actors in this project. Who knows? Maybe you’ll make some friends!
SCHEDULE:
The deadline for submitting auditions for this project is April 1st, and I will begin the process of casting shortly afterwards.

Although the Narrator has the most lines in the entire project, this is the most flexible role. Have fun with this, and be creative. There are no boundaries.
"Violet looked into Nate's golden brown eyes. She held it for a second, mesmerized by the way the sunlight perfectly hit his face. To Violet, the scars on Nate were merely beauty marks."
Violet is a quiet, 16-year-old girl who always moves from school to school, house to house, and state to state, due to her fathers employment in the military. This makes it hard for her to make friends. It is not that she can't make friends, she is a very pretty and likable person, but she finds no reason to. She knows she will end up moving again soon, so she remains quiet, reads her books, and keeps to herself. Books are her only consistent friend. She did not think twice when moving to Nebraska. She thought this time would be like all of the other times she has moved: Pointless, boring, and no big deal. Until she met Nate.
[First day at a new school, and Violet is introducing herself. She feels nervous and out of place.]
"Hi everyone. I'm Violet. I just moved here from...Kentucky."
[Talking to Nate while walking to the local corner store. Violet is smarter than Nate, and she knows it. She loves rubbing it in his face playfully. There's a flirty undertone to this line.]
"I guess Harper Lee had a point when she wrote 'People generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for.' That's from 'To Kill A Mockingbird' if you didn't know. Great book. I can let you borrow it if you want."
[Upset, angry, and crying out of frustration.]
"Please! You can't do this to me, Mom. I'm almost an adult, and you're treating me like a child."
Nate has been living in Nebraska for his entire life. His abusive, drug addict mom and absent father have been the main reason for why he wants to leave so badly. Being 16 years old, he’s counting down the last two years until he gets to go to college, away from this “shitty town” as he describes so nicely. Nate is an energetic, exciting person to be around. He’s labeled as the class clown by his peers. When walking into the same school he’s been going to for year, he didn’t think this year would be any different. That was until the new kid caught his attention.
[Playfully making fun of Violet for being so smart.]
"I agree that Harry Potter is such a good movie. But when you start bringing up metaphors...and...theories? You sound like a middle aged English teacher, Violet."
[Nate gets cold called in class by his teacher. He doesn't know the answer, but Violet quickly slid him a note with the answer on it.]
"Oh...the answer? Well there are many answers, right 'Teach'? It could be so many things...(Violet shows him the answer)...um...243? The answer is 243."
Addicted to various drugs and alcohol, Nate’s mom has only been a bad influence towards Nate. She is verbally and physically abusive towards Nate. She is always in a bad mood. The tone of her voice is always crabby and cranky.
[Talking to Nate at 7 a.m. before he goes to school.]
"You better not fucking disappoint me like your useless father did. Have a good day at school, Kiddo."
[Nate tries to talk to his Mom after school about Violet.]
"A GIRL? Really? You're fucking pathetic! (She hits Nate). I didn't pay for this education for you to fall in love with some girl."
Violet's Mom is caring and sweet at first glance, but it is soon revealed that she is an overprotective 'helicopter' mom that won't let Violet be a teenager.
[Violet's mom attempts to calm down Violet's nerves before the first day of school.]
"Hey now, Vi. It's going to be okay. You've done this a million times, and you can do it once more. I believe in you."
[Violet tried telling her mom about Nate.]
"My baby. You are too young for any of this. You can get a boyfriend when you turn 21."
Ms. Wilson is Violet and Nate's English teacher. Violet's intelligence and love for books quickly makes Violet her favorite student. On the other hand, she does not like Nate's 'class clown' personality.
[She cold calls on Nate, knowing that he does not know the answer.]
"Nate, since you've been paying attention so well, how many novels did Lewis D. Nelson write?"
[After asking Violet to stay after class, she asks Violet this.]
"Have you ever tried writing a book of your own? You're a fantastic writer."
I will be auditioning many people for this part. The more the merrier! Get creative!
[Gossiping about Nate and Violet.]
"Do you guys think Nate and Violet are dating?"
[Gossiping about Nate and Violet.]
"No way! They can't be dating. They're so different!"
[Making fun of Violet.]
"What is she doing?"
From store owners to janitors, extras are more than needed and valued in this project! I will be casting many people as extras. If you get casted as an extra, you may be expected to play more than one role (for example: store owner and Ms. Wilson's husband). Please submit a demo of any work you've done in the past. (If you haven't done any work in the past, use any audition lines from any of the other characters in this project.)
