Project Overview

What is this Project?

This is a parody project for the Japanese Anime Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World from Zero - which is owned by Anime Limited, TV Tokyo, White Fox Studio, and it's original author, Tappei Nagatsuki. This is a parody abridged project where we aim to go over the first season (possibly more) of Re:Zero, and add our own humor and writing to it. This is different from a fandub in that, we are editing the original footage to add lip flaps, edits, and things to creatively make the project more unique.

Introduction

Hello! I'm Wesley, director of this in-development Re:Zero parody abridged series. I have been wanting to work on an abridged series of my own for quite a while. I've been actively participating in voice acting and voice over projects for nearly a year and a half now. I've been editing videos in software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects for nearly a decade now. I'm confident that together we can create an awesome abridged series for this amazing show. I mean, come on, the return by death ability is practically ASKING for shenanigans! We're in early writing stages, however we expect to be wrapping up for the first episode and major arcs by the time this casting call comes to it's due date on March 31st. We're wanting to form a team of people who are interesting in long-term voice acting for projects, writing, and hanging out. We created Starlit Cafe as a production team to work together.

Voice Actors

What are we looking for?

  • LONG-TERM and DEDICATED Voice Actors who want to be a part of a team (We are wanting to do at least the first season and more series in the future, we want it to be high quality, so we can't expect to push out the entire series within just a few months)

  • High Quality Microphone and Recording (XLR is preferred, but if you can rock a USB, that's cool too!)

  • Please don't put 100 effects on your voice, just some normalization and compression will do. No pitch shifting, reverb, or any of that funny stuff that makes you sound unnatural. Please keep it simple on the post-production of your auditions.

  • We are looking for voice actors who are willing to, for the most part, perform in front of us so that we can direct you on lines. (We're cool people who wanna have fun so please don't let this deter you from auditioning)

  • We want Communication, this is very important to us. We want to stay in touch with you and we want to keep the same cast throughout the series. You know, if you're out of town, let us know, stuff like that!

  • People who are wanting to have fun. This is by no means a completely serious project. We're looking for members to be a part of a team where we can have fun recording lines together, coming up with ideas, and collaborate to make this project the best it can be.

  • You MUST be 17+, We have no plans to really do anything crazy that would fall under being explicit or anything that would make the project itself 18+. (there will be swearing and maybe a few dark jokes though!)

  • Multiple takes in AAABBBCCC format. at least 3 varied takes.

  • Please be familiar with Re:Zero prior to auditioning. (If you haven't seen it, watch it, it's really good!)

  • Include your Discord handle in your audition description. You WILL have to join a server if you are selected. Also please include your recording Microphone.

Voice Direction

We aren't making a fandub so we aren't necessarily looking for voices that match either the Japanese, English, or any dubbings that already exist of Re:Zero. We do ask that you are familiar with the original show and it's characters. Due to the nature of this being an abridged series, we may have characters do things that are contradictory to the source material. We are looking for high energy actors who are familiar with the characters to bring them to life. We're not necessarily looking for a voice match, in fact, we are prioritizing acting ability over that. At the end of the day, we're in it to have fun so try things out in your audition and don't be afraid to put tons of takes in there or submit multiple auditions. Also, if you audition and get a role, there'll be more roles available for side characters, minor appearances, and extras that come up! Additionally, if you join our Discord, we may even announce additional casting auditions for you to take part of, whether if you get a role from this Casting Call or not.

Also, when auditioning, as long as you include the lines provided, you can feel free to add any additional characters lines that you personally know. Any favorite lines, or things you think would suit the character in an abridged context or something can also be used. Just ENSURE you include the provided lines.

Payment

While we cannot and will not guarantee anything, if one day people decide to support us on a Patreon. A portion of that will be distributed in a share between the people who have contributed. By auditioning, you agree to these terms, we will not owe you money, and do not audition expecting money.

Final Notes

  • Week 4 Update: The Final Days

    Hello again! It's us! I'll keep this a little more brief. Only 3 days remain.. Technically 2. This has been nothing short of a crazy experience with a crazy turn up. So many awesome auditions have come in and they aren't stopping. As of writing this, we have gotten 382 Auditions, which is insane! We have spent this past week reaching back out to some voice actors so that we can hear more of their voice. To those of you who we reached out to, thank you for returning them to us so quickly! We probably won't be reaching out to any more voice actors due to the deadline being so soon. This doesn't mean you don't have a chance though.

    Now, this is the time to get the last of your auditions in, if it wasn't the time before, it sure is now. With that in mind, if you are not cast, please do not stress about it. There will be many opportunities to participate in this project in the future. There's plenty of characters in Re:Zero that need a voice actor that weren't listed here. They will be available for auditions on the Discord as they come up (https://discord.gg/kN9eMcPZje). So many of you have amazing voices and we hope to get a chance to see you and work with you there if you aren't cast for one of these 14 roles.

    This will probably be the last update posted on Casting Call Club, so I want to say in advance, thank you so much for auditioning! We really have had a blast listening to all of your auditions and we hope that we can work together to create a fun awesome series. We want to work as a team, this project will take months on months to make, we don't want to replace you for any reason, so please audition knowing you will be interested long-term.   • Week 3 Update: Follow-Ups

    We have entered our last full week... Time flies when you're having fun, and we have had the greatest fun and honor of listening to your wonderful auditions. We are entering our last full 7 day week, with only 10 total days left until we hit our deadline. There will be no extensions, there will be no follow-up projects.

    Having received over 200 auditions now, we're wanting to reach out to a handful of people for each role for a few questions and some follow-ups with additional direction and with some different lines. We'll probably reach out to you via discord, or you can save us a bunch of the effort by joining the Cafe Discord where production will be managed. (https://discord.gg/kN9eMcPZje). If you do not receive a message from us in any way, this does NOT mean we are not considering you. There's plenty of reasons for this, we want to find the perfect casting for each role. Your audition may have stuck out to us in one way or another, but for those who we want to hear more of, expect a message from myself in the coming days.

    I was asked recently just how "long-term" this project could be. Given that we want to do a full abridged series, we can't expect this to be done within 6 months, and can possibly even take longer than a year of consistent voice work. There's tons of reasons for this, writing something that meets our quality thresholds, having live direction sessions with our voice actors and giving them the time they need to comfortably get them to us, and the editing process. We don't want to cut corners, we want to deliver an abridged series that fans and non-fans alike can enjoy. If you don't see yourself interested in participating for the role you auditioned for even 9 months from now, this may not be the project for you. We really don't want to replace actors throughout the series and we want to build a team that is us.

    With that said, we have been paying particular attention to people who have auditioned and how familiar they seem with the series and how interested they are in the project. Remember, while we are looking for great voice actors, our priorities are the most dedicated (with good microphone quality). We also want people who will be friendly with us, I mean-- we're going to be working on this project actively for at least a year for the fun of the game. Now, given all of this information, this is your last chance to get auditions and retakes in.

  • Week 2 Update: OVER 150 AUDITIONS?!

    Hey again! It's us! First and foremost, we have been blown away by the amount of support that this project has continued to get. With about.. 150 auditions sent in-- wait a second-- 150?! We have determined something. You are all so talented and our casting decisions are becoming exceedingly hard by the day. (Which is a good thing!)

    Now with this in mind, I want to remind you that we will be looking for more roles in the future. We want to give everyone a fair and equal opportunity to work on this project and a lot of you have expressed great interest in it. When production begins, we will have more roles available on our Discord Server (https://discord.gg/kN9eMcPZje) for which you can audition for. While we have no additional roles at the moment, and probably will not add any more to the Casting Call Page, if you really want to be a part of this project, the discord server will be the place to be.

    We are entering our second half of auditions from here onward, which means you still have a little over 14 days left. If you feel uncertain about your audition, want to try again, or even try more characters out, please do! You all have such amazing voices and we want to hear as much of it as we can before we make our final decision.

  • Week 1 Update: 2 New Additional Roles

    A week has passed already huh? That's crazy! So many of you sent in so many awesome auditions that it blew us away. You have excellent voices, great emotion, awesome ideas, and some really funny takes. I have had a blast listening back to these auditions and hearing what you can do. No, really, we love hearing takes where you add additional lines from the original show, or even include your own. You have helped us more than you know in coming up with ideas and bringing this project together and I cannot express how thankful I am that so many awesome people have auditioned.

    We have decided to give more people an opportunity to participate as voices in this project by introducing 2 additional roles. First, Julius Euclius. The noble knight who Subaru considers to be his natural enemy. Second, Crusch Karsten. The kind but fierce warrior who aided in the defeat of the white whale. We look forward to your auditions for these two characters!

    While you have been working on your auditions, we have been busy scripting/writing and laying out some foundations for the series. So far, I think we have some pretty unique and fun ideas to bring to the table and I'm really looking forward to sharing them with you. This is also a great time to serve as a reminder that we will not be casting until the deadline of this project. If you want to re-audition or submit a week from now, no rush! When we get to our last week from the deadline, we may reach out to some of you for some directed re-auditions in some cases.

Character Bio

Emilia is a silver-haired half-elf girl who is a candidate to become the next ruler in the upcoming royal election. She's good natured and selfless despite constantly being compared to The Witch of Envy by the general public and discriminated against. She has a child-like personality, she is however, is accompanied by her companion Puck to steer her out of trouble.

We want to give Emilia far more emotion and energy on our abridged series. She is very calm and neutral throughout the events of Re:Zero normally. Character Bio

Rem is one of two maid twin sisters working at the Roswaal mansion. Rem speaks very politely and acts impulsively. She has so much respect for her sister that she considers herself inferior of the two. As a result, she works hard to live up to her sister.

Character Bio

Otto is a merchant who is incredibly unlucky. As a result he always ends up in dangerous situations. It is due to his quick thinking, abilities, and wit that he is able to consistently come out unscathed. He is quick to both retort statements directed at him, and also panic at little things. He does however, have a keen eye on those around him and is eager to earn their respect.

Character Bio

Julius is a Knight and member of the Royal Guard. He acts with utmost nobility with a notable air of conviction around him. He takes his nobility very seriously. Julius has problems with people who disrespect nobility, but despite this, he is a caring person, whether if he wants to admit it or not. A reliable knight.
