Raising the Bar: Redux (STILL OPEN, LOOKING FOR AUDITIONS!)
Project Overview
Raising the Bar: Redux is an award-winning HL2 mod that has been in development since February of 2018. In that time we've made three substantial releases that were met with positive reviews (8/10 overall on ModDB after over 100 reviews) and now has over 14,000 downloads. We have hundreds of thousands of views across all of our media, with close to 2,000 subscribers on YouTube, over 800 followers on twitter, and over 1250 followers on ModDB. In 2018 we won fifth best upcoming mod on ModDB, competing with some 37,000 other contestants to gain this position. In 2019 we placed in the honourable mentions for best upcoming mod, placing fourth overall by sheer metrics. In 2020, we placed tenth best released mod on ModDB during the 2020 Mod Of The Year Awards. We've also been featured numerous times on ModDB's twitter and facebook pages, LambdaGeneration's YouTube and twitter pages, and on Project Beta's official website. Elena Mossman is the director of an underwater research facility, Kraken Base. She is self-assured, confident, and dismissive of others. She considers her time very valuable, and sees others as people to further her ends. She's also a double-agent for the totalitarian aliens, the Combine, and thus is used to manipulating others. [Dismissive, interrupted by a colleague she considers her inferior] (Normal volume) Did you call to chat or is there some point to this? I’m running a critical sequence right now.
[Cheerful, although vaguely patronising] Welcome to Kraken Base, Dr Freeman, our – home beneath the sea. It’s an honour – and a pleasure! – to finally meet you.
[Panicked, frustrated with her colleague] (Medium yell) I just lost Freeman! What the hell is going on?
Captain Jaxon Vance is a military commander with many years of experience, leading the remnants of Earth's military in collaboration with the alien overlords, the Combine. He's a double agent planning to lead an insurrection against the Combine, but he's been biding his time for the right moment to strike. Gritty and no-nonsense, he's quietly haunted by some of the things he's had to do to preserve his cover. He's weary of humanity's suffering but still has a few good fights left in him - the player meeting him is the moment where he finally decides to lead the insurrection, knowing he might well have to make the ultimate sacrifice for the cause. His voice is weathered, with an Irish-American tinge. Once you've left your audition, please also attach your Discord tag!
[Relieved and incredulous, greeting his long-lost daughter] (Normal volume) Alyx? Is that you?!
[Scolding, but not childishly - more out of concern] (Low tone) Making your home at Maxwell's compound was dangerous, Alyx. His security is non-existent. It's a damn miracle the Combine didn't crack it open sooner!
[Serious, delivered with gravitas] (Briefing a room of military men) The Air Exchange is well-fortified, tightly-run, and has multiple layers of security. There's no chance we'll take the place before the alarm is raised back at City 17 and elsewhere. Once we knock on the front door...there's no turning back. It's victory, or death.
