Project Overview
What is Project Zerk?
Project Zerk is a fan made abridged series of the 1997 anime version of Berserk, a manga by Kentaro Miura. The goal of this series is to simultaneously parody the story (from a place of love) as well as connect to the emotional core of the story that has made so many of us fall in love with it in the first place.
We’ve decided the best way to obtain the absurdity and intrigue of some of our favorite abridged series is to take specific themes like masculinity and blow it up to explore it fully. This will hopefully lead to classic funnys as well as keep the core of the emotional heart of the story. Guts lives in and is growing up in a world of twisted hypermasculinity and the goal is to explore how this affects him as a character as well as his relations to others.
As this is an unpaid, fan project, your technical quality does not need to be of professional quality however having clearly better audio will be a factor upon which people will be chosen for the project. (Preference includes minimal to no background noise and no excessive peaking or clipping).
In terms of vocal performance, this is not a project where just “being able to do the voice” is enough. You have to be able to match the energy of some of these larger than life characters, along with good comedic timing with your performance! One’s acting capability will be the biggest factor in our casting of this project.
I am but a humble college student, so I do not have access to the biggest pool of wealth. However, due to this I will work my hardest to ensure that this project is a fun place for all our members as well as an artistically satisfying story for us to tell.
Scripts will be posted for review by the entire cast to make suggestions, we will have read throughs involving everyone in that episode, and I will work my hardest in terms of directing to ensure that both the project and voice artist get a great take.
As this is the second episode in the project then most fans of the series would know that we diving into the Band of the Hawk and how Guts meets them. Most cast with this episode will be recurring characters (I.e Griffith/Casca/Judeau). However, I will send out more Casting Calls when new parts are needed and I encourage members of the project to audition for another part! I do love when an actor covers two roles, so don’t be afraid to audition again if you’ve already voiced in the show.
VERY IMPORTANT: Berserk is a series with some scenes that are highly triggering to certain individuals. At this stage, I am unsure if the most hard to stomach content will be included, but we will be in active conversation with our cast about what is comfortable for them to present. So here I shall place a content warning. CW/ Sexual Assault, Sex, Murder, Gore. I highly suggest you be familiar with the entirety of the Golden Age arc of Berserk before auditioning.

Berserk is extremely important to me, I’ve been a fan of the series for many years, so the goal is to honor the original work as much as parodize it.

Griffith is ethereal, a standout amongst his contemporaries but he simultaneously feels down to earth as your closest friend. However, there is menace below his luring charisma, a viper waiting to strike? Or a child wanting to be seen?
GRIFFITH

Casca has a spirit of fire. She won't let anyone talk down to her and she's always trying to prove her worth, however much like Hotspur she can sometimes let her temper get away with her.
CASCA
(foreboding) They’ll have to dig your graves
with a comically oversized spoon then.
CASCA
(desperation)
I’m gonna die!
CASCA
(spiteful) I’m sorry, is Sleeping Beauty
still recovering? If it wasn’t
for Griffith, I would have left
you to die out there. Be grateful
he thinks you may be useful.
Judeau is a genius of wit, and he is beloved by his friends for his silver tongue. However he sometimes finds that the one thing he wishes to possess is infernally out of reach.
JUDEAU
(Worried)
Oh boy, Corkus! Griffith, are you
sure about this?
CORKUS
(Shattered) Dear God, he even got Bryan!
JUDEAU
(jovially) She’s angry at you because she had
to help you recover. You caught a
fever from the blood loss from your
ass-kicking, courtesy of Griffith.
Corkus is a bit of an idiot, and a bit of a coward. However, he makes up for this in spades with his loyalty.
CORKUS (Cont.)
(mocking) What’s so funny? Casca? Is it
King Bach Oversized Spoon Vine

CORKUS
(cowardly) Hey, unnamed fodder #5,
it’s your time to shine!

would ruin Lord Griffith’s perfect
win count. He’ll make a fine
addition to our forces!
Gambino's death haunts Guts deeply, and in this episode he is almost a revenant of repressed grief. His voice is gruff, yet haunting here.
GAMBINO
(disciplinary) Cut it with the bullshit.
You’re acting like a damn coward.
A real man carves his own path,
Guts. (beat)
(haunting) You should know this, you carved
yours right through my chest
that night.
You killed me, your own father,
you beast.
GAMBINO

Bazuso the Mountain is a force on the battlefield, and his overconfidence mirrors his skills.
