Project: Moonstone

Project: Moonstone

Project Overview

Project Moonstone is an original sci-fi animated series currently in early development.

I'm a writer working on the project on my own, and I'm currently looking for a concept artist, or possibly a small number of artists, who might be interested in exploring the project with me and helping figure out what this world could actually look like.

This isn't a fully established production team or a finished project looking for people to fill specific positions. It's still very much in the development stage.

About the project

The story takes place on Earth roughly 500 years after an event known as the Collapse.

500 hundred years ago, the Moon began moving closer to Earth. As it approached the planet, it eventually crossed the Roche limit - the point where Earth's gravitational forces became strong enough to tear the Moon apart.

The Moon shattered.

Its fragments were scattered in three main directions. Some of them remained in orbit around Earth, eventually forming a massive ring around the planet which became the "new" moon. Others were pulled toward Earth and fell onto its surface, while the rest were scattered into space and across different trajectories.

The fragments that fell to Earth became known as Moonstones.

After the Collapse, gravity was no longer stable everywhere.

Some regions have weaker or stronger gravity than normal. In others, gravity can pull sideways, upwards, or in completely different directions. There are areas where gravitational forces constantly shift, creating dangerous anomalies that can appear or disappear without warning.

Because of this, the geography of Earth has changed.

Some areas remain relatively stable and become home to human settlements. Others are too dangerous to inhabit.

Humanity has survived by adapting to this new world.

The remains of the old civilization can still be found everywhere - abandoned cities, research facilities, machines, archives, and forgotten technologies. Much of this knowledge has been lost, leaving people to slowly rediscover what the previous civilization once understood.

Moonstones have also become an important part of life. Their strange relationship with gravity makes them valuable resource for technology, navigation, and research. However, their true nature and the full extent of their connection to Earth's gravitational changes remain poorly understood.

Travel between settlements is dangerous, and this has led to the rise of Pathfinders - people who specialize in navigating unstable regions, studying gravitational fields, finding safe routes.

Main Story:

The story follows Wade, a Pathfinder living in a small settlement with his wife.

Wade is particularly interested in the Old World and believes that understanding the past is important for understanding the world they live in now.

When a trading caravan arrives looking for a Pathfinder, Wade agrees to guide them on a journey through the surrounding wilderness.

What begins as a relatively ordinary expedition eventually leads him through dangerous gravitational anomalies and forgotten remains of the Old World.

When Wade finally returns home, he finds that his settlement has been struck by a massive gravitational anomaly.

The place he knew has been destroyed, with parts of it hanging in the air.

Wade searches through the ruins and discovers that some of the people survived, including his wife.

He set himself the goal of finding her at any cost.

What I am looking for

I'm mainly interested in someone who enjoys concept art and visual development, especially environments and worldbuilding.

There are many things in Moonstone that haven't been completely figured out visually yet. Settlements, ruins, Pathfinder equipment, the altered landscapes, gravitational anomalies, Moonstones and even some of the characters are still open to exploration.

So I'm not looking for someone to simply take a finished design and reproduce it.

I'd rather find someone who can look at the world, have their own ideas about it, and help explore what it could look like.

The visual direction

I'm aiming for a world that feels:

melancholic

mysterious

"lonely beautiful"

grounded and somewhat realistic

post-apocalyptic without being completely destroyed

shaped by nature reclaiming the remains of civilization

sci-fi but not overly futuristic

Who this might be for

If you're looking for something to draw for inspiration, want to experiment with environmental or character concepts, or simply want to try working on an original project that isn't completely locked into a finished visual style, you might enjoy working on this project.

You don't need to be a professional concept artist, and you don't need to know exactly what you would contribute yet. I'm more interested in seeing your work and talking about whether the project is something you'd actually enjoy exploring, and see how we work together and whether we share the same views.

About me / the project

Right now, I'm just one writer working on this project.

I'm not presenting this as a big studio production or promising that the project will definitely become a finished series. It's an idea I'm working on, but it's still early, and there's a lot that needs to be figured out.

What I'm looking for is someone who finds the concept interesting enough to explore it together and see where it can go.

This is currently an unpaid / volunteer collaboration. There is no commercial production behind the project at the moment.

Interested?
