Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Justice for All Fan Dub [1 Feminine voice needed for lead role recast]

Project Overview

What is this?

Back in 2019 I did a listing here on CCC for a "cinematic" fan dub of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney which was edited and framed in such a way to try and remove most, if not all, of the gameplay elements such as the UI, text boxes, etc in an attempt to make the experience less invasive and more "cinematic" in a sense.

Upon completion of the first game's dub we've since moved to working on the second installment in the trilogy Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney- Justice for All.

Unfortunately, the actress filling the role of Maya Fey has encountered some hardship in her day-to-day life and has had to step down after being able to finish only the first of the game's four cases.

Which brings me back here to CCC again: I'm looking to find 1 feminine voice to take over where she left off.

For those of you unfamiliar with the premise: the Ace Attorney series follows the life and times of Phoenix Wright, a rookie defense lawyer, as he is introduced to a colorful cast of clients who need a legal champion to stand by them and exonerate them of crimes they did not commit. Wright must face off against the cunning, intelligent, and ruthless members of the prosecution, stand by the defendants in their darkest hour, and attempt to discover the truth behind each case that will set his clients free!

Requirements:

Since this is a paid project that I am funding out of my own pocket: a significant level of technical and performance quality is going to be expected. Please ensure that your microphone is capable of recording your performance without picking up overwhelming background noises or excessive peaking/clipping. Simultaneously this role is a larger than life character who tends to emote HEAVILY and as such will probably involve shouting and even a bit of hamming it up/overacting in some capacity at some time or another- so if you cannot commit to the needs of the given role please do not audition as I cannot expect to select someone who cannot give the performance required.

Casting in Regards to Payment:

As I mentioned above- this project is going to be funded directly out of my pocket as such:

After casting is verified, payments will be made after the first line submission for each case after which we'll turn attention to retakes BEFORE moving on to the next case.

Role Significance:

Maya is a lead role and as such I'd like anyone auditioning to be aware that I'd like them to stay on board for the eventual dub of the following game in the series: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney- Trials & Tribulations.

Payment:

Payments will be sent exclusively through PayPal only- if you do not have a PayPal account do not expect to be paid as part of this project.

Rates are as follows:

Case 2: $75 for 127 lines

Case 3: $225 for 538 lines

Case 4: $75 for 122 lines.

$375 total for 787 lines across 3 "episodes".

A few final notes:

1.) Only read what is inside the quotation marks, ignore the direction in parentheses. (You might be surprised as to why I need to clarify this instruction)

2.) Discord is not required, but it is recommended as we utilize it to organize group rehearsals, deliver announcements, and distribute scripts (it's also been an incredibly useful tool for getting to know the people affiliated with the project and we've had a fair bit of fun with it). So if you're willing to join a server with the rest of us: please include your Discord ID in the text field of your submission.

3.) PLEASE DO NOT SLATE YOUR AUDITIONS

4.) You may make submissions via email if you do not wish to use CCC. The same standards above apply, simply send your files and all pertinent information (name, preferred crediting name, contact information, etc) to BackwardRocketProductions (at) GMail (dot) com.
Be sure to label audition files as "YourName_MayaFey" (Ex: "RWEstep_MayaFey.wav")

And that's it- if more questions come up I may append an F.A.Q to this section to try and resolve any recurring questions for those reading through this project in the future.

Have fun and good luck!

Latest Updates

  • Thank for your submissions, open call is complete!

I've made my shortlist selections and will be getting with the individuals selected in regards to callbacks within the next few days. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their submissions- there were a lot of good ones that came in and it was a delight to hear some very clearly talented performances. Unfortunately, even good audio quality and top tier performances may just happen to fall under the spectrum of "just not what I'm looking for on this character"- so if you weren't selected, don't loose faith: keep at it! In closing: thanks again for your submissions! I'll probably be back for a "Trials & Tribulations" casting call when I can manage it- I look forward to hearing from all of you when that time comes! Cheers, Reg

Maya is a young and inexperienced spirit medium who tends to leap before she looks. She frequently leaves Phoenix confused when her emotional state and leaps of logic jump astronomically out of proportion at an incredibly rapid pace. Despite growing up in a particularly isolated village, she is seemingly more knowledgeable on practical or social matters than Wright himself and tends to invest herself heavily in various forms of popular media.

At eighteen years old Maya is notably younger than the likes of Phoenix and her sister Mia, but is old enough to not sound like a child. There's a certain balance to be found in not making her sound too young, but not sounding too mature either. Direction-wise Maya is easily excitable and frequently overreacts to the most basic things she may see or hear: bring lots of energy with you, but don't go too fast.

  • (Pumped/excitable, the day's court proceedings went well)
"You were fantastic, Nick! Every time I thought our goose was cooked, you managed to turn it all around. I bet it would make a great Hollywood movie!"

(Agitated and defensive of her 8 year-old cousin because she believes Wright might be suggesting her as a criminal)
"She'd never do anything like that! You hear me!? Never! She's a great kid, and really cute! And really great... and cute!"

  • (Slightly upset and anxious, feeling inadequate)
"Did you know that Von Karma's daughter is only 18. Just like me? I was just thinking about how strong she is... I mean, she's been in Germany all this time all by herself, and she's so grown up! And then you look at me, and, well... I'm the daughter of the Master, but I'm still just a little girl. And on top of that, I'm the suspect in a murder trial."

  • (Loud and shocked- this one comes up a fair bit)
    "WHAAAAT!?"
