The protagonist of Persona 3, canonically known as Makoto Yuki (having been used in other media and later confirmed as the default name in the 2023 re-release of Persona 3 Portable),[1][2][3] is a transfer student enrolling in Gekkoukan High School in Iwatodai City. He is an orphan whose parents died on the Moonlight Bridge in their car during a fatal incident a decade prior to the game.
In Persona 3, he is a silent protagonist, aside from technically speaking in battle in certain instances. While being a silent protagonist, he is very stoic, reserved and calm, gathered by the fact that he's faced death and his own mortality;

Yukari Takeba is a playable character from Persona 3. She is a student at Gekkoukan High School and a member of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad.
Yukari's Arcana is the Lovers, which focuses on balanced, connected relationships with others and important choices; as such, her personality and story revolve mainly around her relationships. She is very popular in Gekkoukan High due to her pretty looks and cheery, positive outlook on life. However, her kindness has its limits, as she's prone to mood swings and getting annoyed over trivial things, often expressing this annoyance with sarcasm. She likes to tease Junpei, even though she deeply cares for him
"He was involved in dangerous work, but in the end, he fought to make things right. He believed the Shadows needed to be stopped, even if it meant losing his life. That's why I choose to fight. I'm going to destroy the Dark Hour and finish what my dad started. That's all I can do. That we can do. Right, Mitsuru-senpai?"

Junpei Iori is a character from Persona 3. He is a student at Gekkoukan High School and a member of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad.
Junpei is usually portrayed as goofy, perverted, immature and upbeat. He fancies himself a ladies' man and frequently tries to hit on girls, with little to no success. Despite this, he is capable of being kind and caring, and he often cracks jokes and calls people "dude" to make them feel better
"So, Tartarus and the Dark Hour will be gone. That's good. That's what we've been fighting for. So why am I so pissed?! [sighs] I know why. I'M the reason. I was like "Fighting is my duty". But hell, it's all I'm good for. If it weren't for that, I'd be worthless."

Akihiko Sanada is one of the playable characters in Persona 3. He is a student at Gekkoukan High School and a member of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad.
A cool and well-respected upperclassman, Akihiko is serious and determined, while also cracking small jokes on occasion. Of all the members of the group, he is the most prone to sarcasm;
"I was too obsessed with power. Ever since I lost Miki, that's all I've cared about. I thought that if I was strong enough, I could protect anyone. But I was wrong... And now you're gone too... I'm such an idiot. In battle, there's always a chance of dying... I knew that! But I was so focused on fighting that I didn't notice anything else! It didn't matter how tough I was! Look what happened!"

Mitsuru Kirijo is a playable character originating from Persona 3. She is heir to the Kirijo Group and a student at Gekkoukan High School during Persona 3.
Mitsuru is calm, confident, mature, responsible, wise and very intelligent despite being a high school student. However, she may be interpreted as slightly arrogant, conceited, cold-hearted or overconfident. As events unfold, this may be a front of maturity, due to her assumed role as the leader of SEES. Her Persona Arcana is the Empress, which fits with the "motherly/older sisterly" role she plays in the group.
"I remember... Yes... With my father's death, I lost my purpose in life... But now I have something to live for. No longer will I run from the future! I will face it head on, carrying out my father's will! I am resolved and without reservation. I owe it all to my invaluable friends... And we have promised to never lose hope, no matter what tomorrow may bring."

Fuuka Yamagishi is one of the main characters from Persona 3. She is a student at Gekkoukan High School and a member of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad.
she is also a friendly student once others open up to her and very kind-hearted, even more so than Yukari. She is very polite, and almost always uses honorifics when addressing people. Usually cool, calm, and collected (particularly in the movie) and despite being quiet and not being involved with fighting and physical combat,

Aigis (romanized as Aegis in Japanese) is a character from Persona 3. She is an Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon (seemingly the last one in existence) and a member of S.E.E.S. who also attends Gekkoukan High School. She is a machine that gradually awakens to human emotions.
Aigis' initial personality is simply a robot designed to obey orders, although she is drawn to the protagonist and states that it is very important for her to be by his side, going so far as to hug them in front of everyone.
"Everyone... I realize now that I have friends as well. You don't have to save the world to find meaning in life... Sometimes, all you need is something simple, like someone to take care of. I'll keep on living no matter what, so that I can protect you..."

Ken Amada is a playable character from Persona 3. He is the youngest member of SEES, and one of the two who doesn't attend Gekkoukan High School
Despite his young age, Ken is very intelligent and mature. It is shown that this is a coping mechanism due to the death of his mother at a young age, which more-or-less forced him to give up his childhood.
I've known it all along; I've just been lying to myself... I was consumed by hatred... I couldn't face the thought of being alone... But... that's exactly what happened... Shinjiro Aragaki is a character from Persona 3. He is a student who rarely attends Gekkoukan High School and a founding member of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad.
A reliable and serious character whose cold exterior masks his weaker, gentler self, Shinjiro's difficult past weighs him down, causing him to constantly push others away with a tough-guy act. Ever since accidentally causing the death of Ken's mother, he has given up being a member of SEES to live a normal life, even though there are only so many Persona-users and so SEES needs all the help they can get, something even Yukari, who has no love for SEES or the Dark Hour, has the sense to realize. As he points out to Akihiko, both of them are held back by the guilt of their pasts; they just have completely different ways of dealing with it.
Heh... Why the long face? Isn't this... what you wanted? It's alright... give yourself time... Let your anger be your strength. You're still just a kid, Ken... You got your whole life ahead of you... So don't waste it... Make it your own... Okay?"

Elizabeth is one of the Velvet Room attendants from Persona 3. She is the younger sister of Margaret, and older sister of Theodore and Lavenza.
Elizabeth is cheery, inquisitive, friendly, silly, humorous, easily excited and fun-loving. She serves Igor and takes responsibility of her duty in the Velvet Room. Elizabeth's tendencies to act on impulse and to not take dangerous things and situations seriously often results in either baffling or even enraging (often the enemy) those involved in the crisis with her surprisingly cool demeanor. However, she is often humorously disrespectful towards her brother Theodore, such as feeding dog food to him without his prior knowledge and in the Q series, would often force him to wear strange clothing when he is in charge of a service.

Theodore is a non player character from Persona 3 Portable. He is the younger brother of Elizabeth and Margaret, and the older brother of Lavenza.
Theodore is a polite and serious young man. Despite his seemingly taciturn disposition, especially compared to his more playful sister Elizabeth, he is actually quite a show-off to the protagonist whenever he requests her to escort her in the outside world. Through this attitude, his naïveté greatly shows, usually with humorous repercussions.

The protagonist of Persona 4, canonically known as Yu Narukami starting with its use in Persona 4 Arena, is a transfer student at Yasogami High School, and resides for a year at Inaba, a rural town.
In Persona 4, he is generally a silent protagonist, as in the series tradition. Except for instances where he audibly speaks when summoning a Persona and so on, with his personality ultimately based on the player's actions and decisions.
My friends faced their own Shadows and came out stronger for it, but I never met mine. To make up for it, though, I've had my friends to help me mature. It's my companions that I draw strength from in all of this."

Yosuke Hanamura is a playable character from Persona 4. He is the protagonist's classmate at Yasogami High School in Inaba and the son of the Junes Department Store's Inaba branch manager.
Yosuke is a clumsy transfer-student who arrived six months before the protagonist. He is often the target for jokes about his lack of muscles and body strength. He fights with blunt, double-handed objects such as wrenches, but more so knives and kunai. The protagonist first sees him crashing his bike into a garbage can, the first of many times, but the protagonist ignores him. The protagonist only helps him the second time this happens.
I want to tell Saki-senpai something. That what's important... isn't where you are. This town I hated so much? Now, I love it. There's still nothing here, but I have family and friends... and you. The important things are never far off... They're all around you."

Chie Satonaka is a playable character from Persona 4. An energetic girl with a love of kung-fu movies, she's one of the protagonist's classmates at Yasogami High School.
Chie is energetic and outgoing, the "extrovert" compared to Yukiko being the "introvert." She has a bright and upbeat personality, often trying to cheer up the group by joking about the case. She can be somewhat short tempered, especially with Yosuke, and is slow to back down from a challenge.
"You don't know SHIT about how I feel! Yukiko might DIE from this, for crying out loud! I'm going, and that's that!"

Yukiko Amagi is a playable character from Persona 4. She is a second year student at Yasogami High School and one of the protagonist's classmates. Her family runs the Amagi Inn, where she is next in-line as manager.
Yukiko is a reserved, soft-spoken and shy girl, having been raised at an early age to be a prim and proper lady of traditional Japanese customs. At school, she is known for scoring well on exams, earning top grades in her class and often studying the material with her best friend since early childhood, Chie Satonaka.
"I wanted to become completely self-sufficient. But I think I was being presumptuous. I have the inn, I have my family, I have the waitresses and chefs... I am who I am now because I was raised by such a kind group... When I think of it that way, my problems aren't just my own. That's why... I'm going to stay here. By my own will."

Kanji Tatsumi is a playable character from Persona 4. He is a first-year student in class 1-3 at Yasogami High School in Inaba and known to many as a notorious delinquent since middle school.
Kanji seems to be a delinquent who was strong enough to fight a biker gang in middle school, earning him a town-wide reputation of wildness and toughness. He drapes his school uniform over his shoulders in a punk-ish style to emphasize the style he wishes to embody. However, when he sometimes gets flustered he tends to threaten people, occasionally getting into fights and scraps.
I get it now... This is what he was talking about... I've just been throwin' in the towel all this time. Of course no one could understand me... I been keepin' my distance outta fear. So I decided that I'd do things my way, no matter how tough, but... It ain't just about hanging out with guys who understand you and telling the rest to get bent... You gotta make an effort if you want people to understand you. I wasn't even trying."

Rise Kujikawa is one of the main characters from Persona 4. She is a popular idol who returns to Inaba for a brief hiatus. She is a first-year student at Yasogami High School.
Rise is cheerful, outspoken, naughty and cute. Though she is quite boastful about herself, she is very sweet deep down.
"Do I... sound weird? Oh, but I guess it sounds more "natural" this way to the public... I'm sorry... I've practically lost touch with what the normal me is like."

Teddie, known as Kuma in the Japanese version, is a playable character in Persona 4 and the game's mascot. Originating from the Midnight Channel, he is empty and without a self, but is the most determined to be a mascot
Being a textbook mascot character: Teddie is usually bubbly and cute and is known to lighten the mood when investigating the case, much like Chie.

Naoto Shirogane is a playable character in Persona 4. The fifth generation of the famed Shirogane detectives, Naoto arrives in Inaba to help investigate the murders, and enrolls as a first-year student at Yasogami High School.
Having lost both her parents in a car accident when she was very young, Naoto is an orphan who acts very mature in spite of her age. As a descendant of a respected lineage of famous detectives, she wears formal clothing and deepens her voice when she speaks in a sophisticated, stilted manner. She is generally very serious, focused and mission-oriented.
When this pen was still mine... I was just a child, dreaming of becoming a detective. But being a man or a woman... I never thought about it. The lack of peers to compare myself to might have contributed to that. I had no friends... I was quite the outsider then, too. But... why is it that, compared to the time I spent utterly alone... I worry more now that I'm with you and the others? I feel that... I'm undergoing a change."

Margaret is a character from Persona 4. An assistant of Igor, she is the sole Velvet Roomattendant in the original version of the game. In Persona 4 Golden, she is accompanied by Marie.
Margaret is a professional and quiet individual and is significantly more mature than her younger siblings Elizabeth, Theodore and Lavenza, although she shares Elizabeth's sense of humor. However, she does show an angry side to her in Persona Q when Theodore accidentally gets her hair wet and in Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth when Caroline and Justine had a fusion accident.

Marie is a character who originates from Persona 4 Golden. Along with Margaret, she is one of Igor's assistants in the Velvet Room.
When Marie is first met, she seems to be a very cold and antisocial individual. She is sullen, cranky, sarcastic, irritable, very foul-mouthed and often prone to mood swings. She will not hesitate to voice her opinion or express her thoughts, regardless of how it would make everyone feel.
That's why...! That's why I left! Because there's no point in seeing you...! We'll just hurt each other! ...It's okay. It's all okay. I've already made enough memories of my own... Fun... Happy... The protagonist of Persona 5, canonically named Ren Amamiya[Note 1], is a second-year transfer student at Shujin Academy, being placed there to continue his academics due to his ongoing probation resulting from being falsely framed for assault.[3][4][5]
As per tradition of the Megami Tensei franchise, he is a silent protagonist, whose personality is based on the player's actions and decisions. However, he appears to have more established traits than any of the previous protagonists.

Morgana is a major playable character of Persona 5. He is a mysterious being with ties to Mementos. He doesn't know who he is, and seeks answers to restore his memories.
In the beginning, Morgana is poisoned by an inflated ego, presenting himself as more grandiose than he actually is. Regardless, he's in his head and is not only convinced of his brilliance, but he genuinely looks down on others at first, making him conceited.

Mementos is different. While other Palaces exist because of just one person, this one's from the public. From that perspective, it'd take more than a few intruders to make a mark on the security level. You'd have to do something so bad that the entire public sees you as an enemy. Futaba Sakura is the Navigator of the Phantom Thieves from Persona 5. She is different from the main crew of the Phantom Thieves, as prior to Persona 5 Strikers, she was a shut-in who does not attend school and rarely, if ever, leaves her house.
With a case of social anxiety bordering on agoraphobia developed from the trauma of losing her mother Wakaba Isshiki, combined with her generally introverted personality, Futaba is strongly uncomfortable with going outside.
"I hate being such a coward... But I think I might be able to face my fears now that I'm a promising-settling Phantom Thief!"
I guess my fears turned out to be true... The real world is a scary place... Pain like this can never reach you if you keep yourself cooped up indoors... Who am I to think I can tell the people what to do? I mean, I used to be a shut in myself... Dammit... I just wanna go home... But even that would be tough now. Giving up would be too painful. You know, I think... I've changed. I don't know when it happened... But I can't... I can't let people suffer like this, even if I don't know them personally."

Goro Akechi is a playable character from Persona 5. He is a public celebrity, touted by his fans and the media as the second coming of the detective prince (after the first appeared in Persona 4), and is investigating the mysterious Phantom Thieves of Hearts case sensationalizing Japan.
In public and with all of his relations, Akechi appears to be well-mannered, friendly, humble and charismatic. His achievement of being a high-school detective, coupled with his handsome features, makes him highly popular among the general public and he is commented to be "The Second Coming of the Detective Prince." His intelligence and smooth-talk earned him enough trust from the police to conduct his own investigation despite his young age, working with Sae Niijima, who fully trusts him to assist her in her investigation.

Makoto Niijima is a playable character in Persona 5. She is the younger sister of Sae Niijima and student council president of Shujin Academy and lives a double life as a Phantom Thief.
Despite her position as student council president, Makoto is an extremely unpopular student at Shujin Academy. This is because she did nothing to stop Suguru Kamoshida's abuse, resulting in other students labeling her as an arrogant, selfish control freak who knew about the abuse but chose to ignore it because she only cared about getting a good letter of recommendation. The Phantom Thieves initially assume the same of her. In actuality, this happens because Makoto holds no real authority at Shujin, with her position merely making her a glorified tool for the principal to use however he sees fit. In reality, Makoto wanted to do something against Kamoshida, but was too afraid of the principal meddling with her college record in order to protect the P.E. teacher.
"Before you guys came along, my life was defined by rules, set on a path of someone else's choosing... But only a true loser would live such a rigid life! I... I will win... Even if it means going up against the entire world!"

Haru Okumura is a playable character from Persona 5. She is a wealthy girl who attends Shujin Academy and lives a double life as a Phantom Thief. She is the only daughter of Kunikazu Okumura, the Thieves' fifth major target.
Haru is generally very shy and reserved. At school, she is viewed as eccentric due to her tendency to keep to herself and avoid contact with others as much as possible. She has serious trust issues, finding it difficult to differentiate between who truly values her as a friend, and who merely wants to use her for her family's status.

Yusuke Kitagawa is a playable character from Persona 5. He is an art student from Kosei High School who becomes involved with the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
Yusuke's entire life's passion is comprised of and surrounded by art. He searches for the aesthetic everywhere in his surroundings, from people to places. He sees every opportunity or challenge presented to him as a way to broaden his horizons, and primarily considers how it will benefit him greatly as an artist. He is captivated by the painting of "Sayuri," and seeks to capture the sense of beauty that it portrays. This passion extends to his mentor, Ichiryusai Madarame, who he believed created the painting and who took him in when he was young, completely ignorant that he is being used for Madarame's own profit. As such, Yusuke greatly admired and respected him to the point that he vehemently denied any of the rumors surrounding Madarame.
A breathtaking sight... Imitations they may be, but together, they make a fine spectacle... Though the flowers of evil blossom, be it known... Abominations are fated to perish!"

Ann Takamaki is a playable character from Persona 5. She is a student at Shujin Academy who lives a double life as a Phantom Thief.
Ann is a very kind and compassionate girl, enough for it to be noted by both Morgana and Sojiro Sakura. Years of isolation due to her looks have left her very withdrawn, with the belief that she's lost her place in the world, but this hasn't stopped her from opening up to the people close to her and have fun. She's able to press on without caring about the opinions of others due to her friendship with Shiho Suzui, who was her first real friend in Japan before joining the Phantom Thieves.
"I've been telling myself this is all for Shiho's sake... I can't take it anymore... I had enough of this... I hate him! But still... Shiho's my best friend. She's all I have left at that sorry excuse of a school! Tell me... What should I do?"

Ryuji Sakamoto is a playable character from Persona 5. He is a student at Shujin Academy and a former track star who lives a double life as a Phantom Thief. He is the protagonist's best friend and the Phantom Thieves' charge commander.[6][7]
Ryuji is known as a disruptive "problem student" at school whose bad behavior causes all sorts of trouble for the teachers. He is quite proud of his status as a self-proclaimed "troublemaker" and his rebellious, mischievous and disobedient nature are the perfect qualities to be a Phantom Thief.

Caroline and Justine, or Lavenza, are characters from Persona 5. They are the younger sisters of Margaret, Elizabeth and Theodore and attendant(s) of the protagonist of Persona 5.
Caroline, despite being the older twin, is much less level-headed and has a very classical tsundere(someone who acts mean-spirited and aloof to disguise any affectionate feelings) attitude towards the protagonist. Additionally, she doesn't seem to hold the protagonist in very high regard, as she refers to him as "inmate"
Justine, despite being the younger twin, is much more level-headed than Caroline. In contrast, she appears to be calm and soft-spoken, but still treats the protagonist as her prisoner, often addressing him in a condescending tone.

Hikari is a young woman that, at the start of the game suffers from extreme depression and self-esteem issues due to her bad past, where she would often be a target of emotional abuse or manipulation due to not thinking or acting in the same way as others around her, complete with a lack of social skills that prevent her from getting her message clear.
