Perceptions of the Dead 2

Perceptions of the Dead 2

Project Overview

Teaser trailer here

Perceptions of the Dead 2 is a commercial visual novel and the continuation of the stories that began in 'The Phantom Ice Cream Truck' and were eventually compiled in the collection Perceptions of the Dead, which is available for free on Steam.

Perceptions of the Dead 2 is intended to be a single story with a length roughly equal to that of the other three short stories in the series combined. It is intended to once again be fully voiced with many of the original voice actors reprising their roles.

The initial project will include a single story with additional chapters likely appearing in the future.

There is a possibility that you will be asked to voice the same character in future games or chapters containing the character. If you have no interest in appearing in future projects, please let us know.

For most line counts, we expect one month turn around. If you need more time due to larger line counts we expect communication to be maintained even if it is 'I'm working on it!'. Failure to maintain contact will result in immediate recast. We don't like having to do this ever, but we want to be upfront that we will if we have to!

You will be required to sign an NDA and give us permission to use your voice in a commercial game.

General rule of thumb for line payment is 33 cents a line.

We plan to release the game within the year.

  • Too many amazing auditions!

Hello everyone, I want to start by saying it is amazing how many phenomenal auditions we received. We'd like to thank everyone who applied. We have listened to each and every one and have been overwhelmed with the sheer quality and number of auditions we received. That said, as amazing as it is to get so many phenomenal applicants, it comes at the cost of having to only pick a select few. That said we have officially cast all roles for this round of auditions. If you were not picked, do not take this as us not adoring your application. The fact is that for many of the applications it came down to us picking based on minor variations and what ultimately better suited the character. We have a long list of applicants we may contact for future projects with more appropriate roles. Once again, thank you all for your time!

Ripley

Unpaid
Role assigned to: savillevoices

Estimated Lines: 240

Description: Ripley has the appearance and demeanor of a detached working age woman. The truth is that she died centuries ago and has become obsessed with 'survival' ever since. She is often either sarcastic or purposefully creepy, and will try purposefully to make others feel uncomfortable around her in order to ensure they keep their distance, making it easier to hide the fact that she's dead.

Desired voice:  Sultry, gravelly, aloof voice. For accents, we prefer any of the more subtle American accents unless you can accurately depict that of a three century old half Native American half Chinese immigrant railroad worker from California (To be clear: This is a joke).

Note: This character is going to appear in future stories, and has in fact appeared in a story a few years ago. Please keep that in mind when applying.

  • "Tell me girl, can you now see the truth of your own world?”
(This In a haunting/taunting manner. She is trying to scare away a visitor. This is her 'ghost mode' voice. No voice effects please, just try to be creepy with your mannerisms.)

  • "Only fate or misfortune can conspire to find you doing what he does."
(Ripley is much more relaxed as she says this, and is as such is behaving more as her natural sardonic self.)

  • "I just wanted to be safe again… I just wanted…"
(Ripley is about to be destroyed by what are essentially ghosts that eat other ghosts, and is terrified and ranting at herself.)

Hotelier

Role assigned to: pwlalush

Estimated Lines: 127

Description: The Hotelier is the friendly fellow who mans the front desk of the enormous and utterly abandoned hotel our heroes stay at during the story. Despite admonishing themselves for forgetting to do so, no one ever learns his name, making him mysterious for all the wrong reasons.

The Hotelier's real story is that he finished school and came home, getting trapped in the black hole that is a dying town. He works online as a Linux System Admin and also manages  the Hotel for his Aunt. His real passion is History, and he spends a lot of his free time documenting all the mysteries and stories that once made this town such a bustling place of spirits and mediums.

He's peppy, passionate about what he likes, and generally in good spirits despite his situation.

Desired voice:  Any, just be able to speak with passion or disinterest believably. Accent: Northern American accent preferred, like a Minnesotan accent for example.

  • Line 1:  "I am sorry to say, the wiring in this old place has a problem or two." (Apologetically and jokingly at the same time, as it's sort of a 'what did you expect?' situation, but he's not being a total jerk about it.)

  • Line 2:  "Factories had catastrophic failings, businesses had misfortune beyond reason, and within a few short decades, it looked like the town had reached a critical point where its spiritualistic past was about to end any chance it had at a future." (Passionately talking about the history of the town, excited to have someone to tell it to, despite the grim content (which is he playing up with his tone.)

  • Line 3:  "For… 'business', heh, Why do you have to say it like that? ...Are you drug dealers?" (Playfully mocking something another character said and then suddenly disbelieving and perhaps almost annoyed as the idea dawns on him.)

Police Officer

Role assigned to: Andre Luc Martinez

Estimated Lines: 14

Description: Just a friendly local officer manning the front desk of a police station. He is of course aware of the spooky past of the town more or less assumes any out of towners are those crazy ghost hunting types, but they don't do any harm and it's a quiet town and it's a good job. He's more than happy to talk or tell stories.

Desired voice:  Any Male, Northern American accent preferred, for example, Minnesotan.

  • "Uuuuh, I know we haven't brought in someone like that." (Asked if they had any dead bodies matching someone's description. He's happy to say no.)

  • "And they didn't arrest you?!" (Barely holding back laughter after hearing a funny story from one of the out of towners.)

  • "The basement isn't spooky, man." (Reassuringly and teasingly at the same time.)

Role assigned to: Cody Savoie

Estimated Lines: 28

Description: The Mortician is one of the few doctors left in this quickly shrinking town, and works part time at the morgue as a coroner. He's soft spoken and generally a quiet person.

Desired voice:  Higher pitched Male. North American accent preferred, Minnesotan especially.

  • Line 1:  "Oh, hello. You don't look like officers." (With subdued surprise, and a little confusion.)

  • Line 2:  "Tyrone? I think I may have met your friend." (With genuine surprise and a small amount of excitement.)

  • Line 3:  "He said he was a professional paranormal researcher." (Laughing and expecting others to find it just as humorous)

Government Spook

Unpaid
Role assigned to: benbevoicing

Estimated Lines: 33

Description: The Government Spook is here for your protection, this is all part of normal governmental operating procedure. There is no need for alarm. The aberrant sights and sounds you may have experienced are likely due to illegal dumping or similar unlawful activity, but do not fear, agents have been dispatched and the appropriate authorities will take all necessary actions.

There is no reason to be afraid.

Real Description: Government spook is the incarnation of the idea of a 'government spook' a 'man in black', a faceless federal employee who resolves problems. He is exactly that, and he has been deployed to the aftermath of the events of Perceptions 2.

Desired voice: Something like Agent Smith. Normally I don't like to point at one voice and say 'that' but I feel Agent Smith from the matrix perfectly encapsulates the idea of a government spook. We do NOT want your Agent Smith impression, but take mannerisms and formality into account when trying to find YOUR voice for the character.

Note: This character is going to appear in future stories. Please keep that in mind when applying.

  • Line 1:  “I have a few questions for you, Miss Count." (Very formal, but commanding.)

  • Line 2: "And here I thought most ghosts didn't have bank accounts, let alone streaming subscriptions…" (Politely teasing while also making one character realize that she hasn't actually been getting paid by her streaming, but by 'The Government')

  • Line 3:  "A term for me might be 'Tulpa', or perhaps 'God', if you're a fan of Neil Gaiman's work." (Politely and in a friendly manner, explaining himself.)
