Pembroke Investigates - Season 1
Project Overview
What is this?
I'm excited to share my first project: an audio drama that delves into the realms of mystery and the occult. This original series aims to captivate listeners with intriguing plots and supernatural elements, setting the stage for a collection of thrilling mysteries to come. I hope this initial installment will be the beginning of a captivating series that explores the unknown and keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.
Pembroke Investigates follows Charlie Pembroke, a former cop turned private investigator, as he investigates the theft of an ancient amulet from a museum in the small village of Fort Augustus. What begins as a simple case soon unravels into a dark mystery tied to occult rituals linked to Aleister Crowley.
As Charlie digs deeper, he uncovers secrets involving the museum and its staff, including the mysterious disappearance of employee Jamie. With the help of local officer Grace Bennett, Charlie navigates rising dangers and confronts the town's dark past. The investigation spirals into chaos, leaving Anna, Jamie, and others missing, and the true extent of the ancient powers remains shrouded in mystery.
Requirements
I am seeking enthusiastic individuals for an unpaid project that, if succesful, serves as a springboard for future paid opportunities. This initiative is aimed at those who are passionate about audio recording and voice-over work, offering a valuable chance to collaborate and create something exceptional. Ideal candidates will possess a strong desire to contribute to the project’s success and a willingness to learn and grow in the industry. This project not only provides hands-on experience but also has the potential to lead to paid roles in subsequent endeavors.
Additional Roles
I am looking for contributors to fill additional small roles within the project, ranging from 50 to 200 words in length. These parts offer an excellent opportunity for individuals to showcase their talent and creativity while gaining valuable experience in audio recording and voice-over work. Ideal candidates will bring enthusiasm and dedication to their performances, helping to enhance the overall quality of the production. This is a fantastic chance to be involved in a collaborative environment and to potentially pave the way for future paid opportunities.
Profit Sharing
Once this project is complete I intend to use it as a method of attracting funding for future projects, through Patreon, advertising and any other avenue I can think of. My intention is to provide paid work for artists as soon as possible. While we are working hard to ensure the audio drama's success, I cannot guarantee financial returns at this stage. Compensation will be discussed and provided once the project generates revenue.

- Occupation: Private detective, formerly on the police force.
- Personality: Serious, methodical, and slightly jaded. Charlie often carries the weight of his past, especially regarding his former career and his unresolved relationship with Anna. He is tired, both physically and emotionally, but still driven by curiosity and a sense of duty.
- Role: The protagonist of the story, brought to Fort Augustus to help Anna with a museum theft case. His personal connection to Anna complicates his work.

(Professional) This is voice note 001, for case number FA7638. Yesterday I received a letter from Anna. It was pretty odd because I haven’t heard from her since our university days, in Stirling. It was also odd because she sent a letter, a physical written letter, right to my door.
(Friendly) No thanks, I’m having as busy a day as you will be. Give me the full breakfast mate and a large cappuccino.
(Coldly) I don’t have time for games. I know about the amulet, the ritual... everything. If you’re involved, now’s the time to come clean. I’m not leaving until I get answers.
- Occupation: Museum manager in Fort Augustus.
- Personality: Warm and charismatic, with a hint of mystery. Anna is passionate about her work at the museum, particularly about its connection to local history and artifacts. She has a flirtatious and nostalgic edge, especially in her communications with Charlie, hinting at a close relationship from their university days. However, beneath her charming exterior, she may be hiding more than she lets on.
- Role: Anna is the one who invites Charlie to Fort Augustus to investigate the theft of an amulet from the museum. Her connection to the case—and possibly to the occult elements—becomes a source of suspicion.
- Role size: 2,100 words.

(Friendly) It has been far too long since Stirling and the final night prom. I do hope you are well. I heard about your leaving the force, I should have gotten in touch then but I thought it best to leave you alone
(Shocked) Oh god, (Pause) He’s missing? He doesn’t have a schedule here, he, eh, I had no idea.
(Excited that she can help) There’s plenty more. We have some books on the history of the house in the archive. We have a few occult books but you might be better looking in the Abbey Library.
- Occupation: Innkeeper of the Tuath na Marbh Inn.
- Personality: Cheerful, talkative, and full of local charm. Noah is friendly, welcoming, and eager to make visitors feel comfortable at the inn. He knows everyone in town and likes to joke around, but there are subtle hints that he knows more about the town's darker secrets than he initially lets on.
- Role: Noah provides Charlie with lodging during his investigation and serves as a source of local knowledge. His friendly exterior hints at a deeper understanding of the town's workings and the museum's impact on the community.

(Pleasant but harassed) Sorry bout that, mate. What a day. Not even the season yet but always plenty to do. I’m Noah, welcome to the Tuath na Marbh.
(Calm and apologetic) I thought it would make you happy, Mara. How was I supposed to know it would be such a waste.
(Cheerful, trying to ease the tension) Completely understand, mate. Not a problem. Come on through.

(Musing) Right. Just a stranger passing through. Nothing interesting about that. No enemies, no one who might want a little look at your private correspondence?
(Skeptical) “Fine” isn’t exactly the word I’d use for someone who just got shot at, Charlie.
(Firm, professional) Unfortunately, yes, Claire. We’ve been trying to piece together what happened, but... there’s not much to go on. Have you heard anything? Seen anything unusual here at the museum lately?

(Calmly, almost rhythmic) Good morning, Mr Pembroke. I am Abbot Alaric, the head of our order. Apologies for the welcome and sorry to be talking to you under such circumstances.
(Surprised) Well I can’t be sure about the whole time but I went to the library around 5pm. I spoke to the Brother about a call we had received from a University student who was looking to visit as part of their PHD research. I can get you a copy of the phone log from the computer if you like.
(reserved) You may speak with Brother Ambrose but our brother, Father Oswald is away for a few days. What do you need from Brother Ambrose?

(Friendly, alert) Everything? You’re asking about our restricted section? Oh, no. Only Brother Ambrose and the Abbott have access to our restricted section.
(Desperate, voice cracking ) You don’t understand! This town—it’s suffocating! Decades of faith, of servitude... but never any change. Never any real answers.

(Thinking to herself) I hope they find him soon. He has gone off before so he might just be at a friends. He likes, erm, (Pause) You’re not the police, are you?
(Smiling) I’ll call through, give me a moment. (pause) Hi, Anna. You have a visitor. (Pause) It’s Charlie. (Pause) Okay, okay. (Phone hanging up.) Charlie, she’ll be through in a minute. She’s just finishing up. Would you mind taking a seat?
(Uneasy) No, nothing unusual... well, not since the robbery. But Anna—she’s been... distracted. Not herself these past few days.

(Smug and condescending) This is our collection, Mr Pembroke. Not even two shelves of books. We are a Christian Abbey, Mr Pembroke. We have books which go back to the 18th century because of the past of this wonderful building. But we do not encourage the reading of such blasphemous books nor do we allow access to them.
(angry) Abbot, books do not go missing here. They are not lost, miscategorised, misplaced or stolen. In my time here i have never misplaced any book. It must be here.

(Tired, worn down but hiding a flicker of mistrust) I—I don’t know anymore. I’m not sure who can help. (Her tone hardens slightly) But if you hear anything... anything, call me. Please. Thank you.
(Still forcing a lighter tone, but it feels more brittle now) Sure, I’m heading back now, actually. If you walk with me, you can grab it right away.

(Angrily) We’ve barely made anything since covid. If this summer doesn’t get booked we’re out of a business and a house, Noah, and you’re spending on stupid things like that.
(Snarling ) This was never supposed to be like this. I needed the money. Our business—our home—was failing. We were drowning.
