Parea - Animation Grad Film

Parea - Animation Grad Film

Project Overview

Hello! I'm James Matijasevich, an animation student at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and Parea is my thesis film to be!

To make a long story short, I'm looking for 3 talented individuals to help bring my main characters to life!

Synopsis:

One morning, a fruit saleswoman in a desert Bazaar, Malee opens her shop to find that her stock is being ransacked by a Ghoul that somehow snuck in. The local Guardsman, Chulainn arrives to assist her and attempts to slay the Ghoul. However, Chulainn is stopped by an old drifter named Godun who refuses to let him harm the creature. Both Chulainn and Godun have a petty spat about the situation, and end up losing focus on the real issue.

Godun and Chulainn must move past their Arrogant and stubborn selves, to find a proper solution.

Meet the Characters!

Godun

Pronounced: Go-dun

Origin: Old English

Chulainn

Pronounced: KUL-in

Origin: Irish

Malee

Pronounced: Mah-lee

Origin: Thai

As of the creation of this listing, Preproduction is still underway! there is a completed script, storyboard, and early animatic which I will be happy to show to the final cast!

Here is some early concept art done before the designs were finalized. I mostly designed the final characters around these artboards, but mostly shifted proportions and gave them slight simplifications. this is to show that this has been in the works for a while now. You can find these artboards and more of my artworks on my Instagram! @james_matijasevich

Okok that's all I'll show for now. I just gotta run through the requirements and such. so let's bang this out.

Requirements and Other details:

  • If you are situated in Melbourne, Australia. We can do in person recording sessions at a soundbooth somewhere and discuss in person how we wanna go about things. This is ideal, but alas I know it's not very likely.

  • If not in Melbourne, we can call over Discord. But that's assuming you either have a good microphone, or are able to book a sound recording booth in your area. The cost of which will be comped in payment. If you are accepted for a role, I will definitely be asking for a Discord ID

  • In terms of audio quality, I'm looking for audio that includes no pops, peaks, or background noise

  • All three characters will be yelling at some point, so a convincing yelling voice is pretty good to have.

  • Although I have the characters' voice types set in stone, I am also happy to allow for experimentation. In your audition if you so choose to try an accent for the character, record that alongside a neutral voice which fits the character's criteria. I like a little creativity! So some experimentation may help your audition.

The film is slated to be completed by late this year, so I'm only in the early stages right now. I'm hoping to get your voices for the final animatic. However, if any changes need to be made to the script, revisions are extra pay for the same rate.

OK! That's all the information I have for this page. I hope you will consider giving my characters the voices they deserve!

Latest Updates

  • All Roles Closed!

    Hello everyone, James here!

I have made my final decisions for casting. And subsequently, all roles have been closed. Thank you so much to everyone who auditioned and showed interest in wanting to be a part of my project! It meant so much to see so many people auditioning for my dumb characters. And I had so much fun slowly piecing their voices together along the way. So many different styles of voice and delivery, that I even thought to retouch the script multiple times!

I won’t say that my final decision wasn't hard, cause it sure as heck was! Over 200 amazing auditions to listen to, and believe me I’ve heard them all!

This is my first held audition, and having so many people interested in what I’m putting forward is amazing to see!

Stay tuned for any future projects I may end up doing, cause I’ve got a lot more coming in the future! Just… gotta get this film done for uni first…

    Thank you all!

  • Update About Auditions!

    Hello all!

It's warmed my heart to see so many people excited to work for this project! I've listened to almost all of your submissions so far, and i'm so glad to have attracted such talented VAs for my major project. and of course as hard as it's going to be to choose, there can only be three...

I may be picking my final voices for the characters very soon, cause there are some auditions here that I feel are just right for their respective characters.

And also to those who don't end up playing either of these three characters. As a bit of assurance, I have built up an extensive longlist of people who really impressed me with their skills who I will not soon forget! I may even look back at that list and follow-up for any future projects I may do!

I have a lot of stuff cooking in the background which I will be very excited to reveal when the time comes, but that's something for another day. As for now, stay tuned! I will be revealing the final cast soon, cause I'm still tossing between my decisions and we are still a few days from the deadline!

Anyway, Stay posted! Ooh this is very exciting!

Paid: Flat Rate 70 AUD
Role assigned to: Maganda Marie

Malee is a sheepish, and cowardly person, but she is not afraid to get stern when something doesn't go her way. She is bossy and prefers to delegate tasks to others if it means she can stay back and not get hurt.

She is a young woman, and is pretty articulate but may stumble over her words when she is scared or startled.

Malee knows how to boss people around, when she's doing so, she's assertive as hell.

Malee shows her cowardice in the way she puts herself forward. or rather in her steps back from danger. She's got a sheepish demanor, and has a slight stutter. not too much though that it gets in the way of the flow of her speech.

Malee is a young woman (Mid 20s) and when she's bossing people around, her demeanor starts to shift from sheepish to stern.

Paid: Flat Rate 90 AUD
Role assigned to: Lorenzo Onrubia

Chulainn is a strong guy, but that makes him stubborn. He's got a small ego and is easily offended if people like Godun decide to question his authority. He is energetic, and raises his voice as a means to gain control in conversation.

Chulainn speaks as if he's trying to prove something, almost trying too hard to sound tough. although he is tough, it doesn't come across in his personality. He is quite young, around early 30s. His voice is not deep like Godun's voice, but the kind of deep you'd expect from an athletic adult male.

  • (Speaking to a crowd) Give way, Bazaar patrons! Egress! Stand Back, what have you!

  • (Annoyed) Ghoul? What do you suggest I do? Sing it a lullaby? Tuck it into bed? A creature of this nature must be slain!

  • (Instigative) You got any better ideas, old man?

Paid: Flat Rate 90 AUD
Role assigned to: Jimmy May

Godun is a stoic old man who covers up his old self with a masked costume. He is very arrogant and believes everything he says is correct. He is a confident speaker and even comes off as smug most of the time. He is stopping Chulainn from killing the Ghoul, but has a little fun insulting him while he's at it.

Godun has a gruff, deep, and almost whispery voice. he is pretty mellow and rarely raises his voice.

  • An old man needs to borrow your strength. The implication should be clear.

  • This crowd appears one stray nudge shy of a riot.

  • It's amazing to see a guardsman so adept at further escalating things.
