Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Dub)

Project Overview

In the sea town of Rogueport, a magnificent treasure was foretold to be sleeping underneath the town, behind a thousand-year-old Door. Princess Peach investigates upon her visit to the town, only to become involved in a continuously unraveling story, and a path towards darkness. Mario, invited to come by Peach, comes with a mysterious map that entails the location of the keys that will open the door. However, upon uncovering that Peach has been kidnapped by the secret society called X-Nauts, it's up to Mario to save the Princess and uncover the mystery of the treasure locked behind the thousand-year-old door.

Greetings everyone, and thank you so much for taking the time to come to this casting call project. My name is Nazo. And one day, I and my friend Ryder decided that it would be an extremely cool idea to have a dubbing of a wonderful game named Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It's a game near and dear to my childhood, and I couldn't possibly refuse the idea of bringing this wonderful game to life!

Obviously, this is a non-profit fan dubbing of the game. We do not claim ownership over any of the properties included in this series. All of which belong to Nintendo and Intelligent Systems. As such no one investing in this project will be paid in any capacity. This is all in good fun, and we understand if you don't have the time to audition or be a part of it. Times are rough out here, ya know? That being said, whilst we're all here for good fun, we wanna make sure quality is still upheld. Therefore audio quality is key to auditioning. Performances speak louder than any type of bad audio quality, but it's recommended that you have something nice, at the very least.

This is one of many casting calls for the series, and this call will focus on casting the multitude of main characters, including anyone who appears in more than 4 chapters of the game. If you don't get cast for one of these characters, please don't fret! For there will be many more opportunities for casting in the future of this project!

Princess Peach is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and has come to the city of Rogueport in search of treasure. To people she cares for, she shows them the utmost kindness and can be extremely caring. To those that mess with her or anyone she cares about, they'll find the Princess to be quite sassy and snappy. But even in the most dangerous perils, she still has hope that Mario will save her, and will hold her own until that time comes. 

  • (Confused but nervous) "But, hang on a moment! Where in the world am I, anyway? It's so unfamiliar... I wish I could at least let Mario and Toadsworth know that I've been caught..."

  • (Irritated and Annoyed) "What, are you insane? You X-Jerks kidnapped me like common Koopas! And now you call me in here and ask me to teach you the meaning of love? I should spit on your screen!" 

  • (Slightly sarcastic but happy) "I don't have too many good memories of Rogueport, what with the kidnapping and all... But it really is a vibrant town full of love for life, isn't it?"

Mario's younger brother, Luigi has always been known for his timid nature. But Luigi is always there for when people need him, especially when it comes to Mario. However, instead of going on the usual adventure with Mario, Luigi goes on his... own adventures. Throughout the game, Luigi will entail the stories of his travels to Mario if the player wishes to listen. 

  • (Excited) "Hey bro, check it out! A letter from Princess Peach arrived for you! I'll just read it to you, how's that sound? Ahem! Now let's see..." 

  • (About to start a long story) "I've been catching a breather here, you know, reflecting back on all my adventures. It's been a long road, Bro. Wanna hear what happened? It's a pretty long story." 

  • (Getting into the moment, about to tell a tale) "Well, like I said, it's a pretty long story, but here goes... My big brother-- That's you, Bro-- got a letter from Princess Peach and took off. Left behind as usual, I was cooking a snack at home when another letter arrived."

Professor Frankly

Professor Frankly is a historian and archeologist that helps Mario throughout his journey to find the Crystal Stars. Extremely interested in his studies, the Professor acts as Mario and the crew's guide throughout the story, telling them after each chapter where they're supposed to go next. His interest in the legendary treasure means that he is an invaluable asset to the journey at large. 

  • (Confused and trying to remember) "Ah. Yes. You. Now, you, uh... I've seen your face before... Yes, that face... Wait for it... Just a moment... Don't tell me, now! Silence! I'll get it right!" 

  • (Flabberghasted before curious) "WHAAAT??? Hummina hubbity hubbida hippity hoobida hammala huffala hoofala... REALLY? You... You actually have it? Could I... Just take a quick look at it, if you don't mind?" 

  • (Concerned but wise) "No, I'll stay in town and ask around about Princess Peach and that suspicious gang. Besides, I doubt a shriveled old Goomba like me could handle the trials of the road. Of course, if anything happens and you need some advice, come see me, okay?"

King of the Koopa Troop, Bowser has been Mario's arch-enemy for many decades. His selfishness and arrogance are only matched by his brutal temper problems. Despite his impatience and lack of astute intelligence, Bowser is extremely stubborn in getting what he wants and will stop at nothing to claim the Crystal Stars, and gain the treasure and Princess Peach of Rogueport for himself.

  • (Confident and Bombastic) "Gra ha ha har!! Bowser, the almighty Koopa King has arrived! Hold your applause minions!"

  • (Angered and slightlty Protective) "Under NO circumstances is ANYONE allowed to kidnap her without MY say-so!!! I will NOT stand for this!! I'm going to Rogueport, NOW! I've gotta kidnap her back!!"

  • (Shocked and then Annoyed) "P-POSTER??? Great. Just, great. Now I look like the huge, mighty king of GUYS WHO TALK TO POSTERS!!!"

An old and wise Magikoopa, Kammy is Bowser's top advisor and leader of his army. She's an old Koopa with a sharp tongue but a love for fun things like any younger. Despite Bowser's antics, she stays loyal to him and helps him pursue the Crystal Stars in the hopes of giving him the treasure of Rogueport. 

  • "I've just now returned. I'm terribly sorry for keeping you waiting, my lord. Please, your grumpiness! Don't be so impatient with your old servant." 

  • "Really? Nice! As for me... Glitzville was FANTASTIC! The fights were so cool! I was overcome! Why, even at my age, I was shaking what my momma gave me!"

  • "Wait... hold the phone! My mighty lord Bowser! This is just glass! A flimflam! A fake!"

Grodus

Leader of the X-Nauts and evil mastermind, Grodus is known throughout his group for his cold and unforgiving nature. He cares not for the well-being of most people around him, not even his own minions. He plans to collect the Crystal Stars and claim the treasure of Rogueport for himself in order to fulfill his plan of world domination. Throughout his tangles with Mario, Grodus will use his cunning mind and cruel tactics in order to get what he wants. 

  • (Excited and Pumped) "I've been looking forward to this, I must admit. Yes... correct!!! I am the leader of the secret society of X-Nauts! I am Grodus!" 

  • (Threatening but sarcastic) "Trust me, it's very much in your interest to be absolutely honest with us. We X-Nauts are not all rainbows and lollipops, I assure you. We're quite nasty." 

  • (Confident and Condescending) "Gaaack ack ack ack ack! I see...So you know of this Mario, do you? Hmmm... This fool matters not at all. I'll know all about him before long, that I promise."

Lord Crump is Grodus's second in command, acting as the general to the army of X-Nauts. Crump is headstrong and all about brute-forcing his way through any type of struggle. He isn't exactly the brightest in the books. Though, with his various plans (that don't always work out) and a mighty mech at his side, Lord Crump still proves to be a dangerous foe. 

  • (Confused and then disappointed) "Where'd they go?!? Huh? You! Johnson! Did you see them? Did anyone? Uh... crud! They bolted!" 

  • (Cocky and confident) "Are you crying yet? Yeah? Sorry, but this thing isn't equipped with tissues. Well, Magnus Von Grapple has that effect on people. Total, weeping terror." 

  • (Cocky but stumbling on his lines) "Buh! Buh! Buh huh huh! I'm gonna turn you guys into wee seeds... Wait. That's not right. I'll turn you into SEAWEED! Buh huh! Enjoy!"

TEC-XX is a super computer created by the X-Nauts to be the perfect machine. Upon the kidnapping of Princess Peach, TEC began to feel strange inconsistencies in it's programming, which would be revealed to be emotions that were foreign to what it was made to be. With the help of Princess Peach, TEC would learn more about human emotions, and in turn, would help Princess Peach to contact Mario about her whereabouts and care.

(All lines with TEC are meant to be spoken without emotion, but in hints of their confusion and questioning of their programming, the emotions described in the lines come out.)

  • (Lost before returning to Emotionless) "Happiness? Fun...? I have definitions for these words, but... My programming is insufficient. There should be nothing I cannot comprehend. I am a perfect computer." 

  • (Emotionless but then Confusion) "Thank you, Princess Peach. That was very fun. Just a moment... Fun? Is this impulse I feel the concept known as fun?" 

  • (Emotionless, but a hint of Curiosity) "Princess Peach, allow me to ask you something. Do you like the world you live in? There are many problems in this world, many sorrows. Do you like such a world?"

Goombella is Mario's first ally in Rogueport, and is a student at the University of Goom. Curious and energetic, Goombella is built for adventure, wanting to explore the world and find out more about Rogueport's legendary treasure. She's got a sharp sass to her though, so don't think you can cross her in a bad way without receiving an insult or two. Still, she follows Mario and aids him throughout his journey. 

  • (Happy and then Curious) "My name's Goombella. I'm a student at the University of Goom. Nice to meet ya! So uh... who are you?" 

  • (Annoyed) "Me, I already HATE it here! There are freaks and weirdos EVERYWHERE! It's nasty! I mean, I know the place is called Rogueport, so I should have expected it, but sheesh!" 

  • (Sarcastic and then Condescending) "Oh it is, like, SO sweet that you boys think I'm cute! Seriously! Yeah, guys like you make me feel like, TOTALLY BARFING!!! Now get out of our way!"

Koops is a young Koopa Troopa that tries his best to be strong. His timid nature and natural tendency to be afraid make it hard to interact with him at first. But through finding the courage to confront his fears headfirst, Koops joins Mario's adventure as an ally, and the two venture off to save Princess Peach. 

  • (Nervous at first before scrambling) "Pardon me for yelling like that... I was panicking. Umm... how to begin? M-My names... Koops. I heard you're traveling to Hooktail's castle. So anyway, I, uh... I have a favor to ask.... So.... Umm..."

  • (Nervous before screaming with courage) "Ummmm... See... I was wondering... Would you... OH PLEASE TAKE ME WITH YOU TO FIGHT HOOKTAIL! PLEASE, I'M BEGGING YOU!" 

  • (Timid, but filled with determination) "Umm... that's right, Dad... I'm going to continue traveling with Mario... And then I'm... Well... I'm going to come back a strong Koopa like you, Dad!"

Madame Flurrie

Madame Flurrie is a wind spirit that also holds the title of a retired actress. Flirtatious and pompous, Flurrie retired the stage to live a life of secluded peace in the Boggly Woods, in which she became a friend to the locals. Upon being helped by Mario, Flurrie declares to help the plumber in his escapades, whilst also helping to save Boggly Woods from the X-Nauts. 

  • (Shocked into flirtatious) "Oh! Oh... my... word! Mario, isn't it? Are YOU my heroic little necklace hunter? Well! My, my, my... Aren't YOU a fine specimen of a man? Yes indeed~!"

  • (Flirty into offering) "I simply must thank you for your graciousness~! But how to do it? Hmmm... Perhaps if I... grabbed you and gave you a little sugar~?"

  • (Dotting and somewhat motherly) "Oh what ails you, my little pudding pie? He does seem lonely, doesn't he, Mario? Why, he looks like when I step into the spotlight and then forget my very first line."

The young Yoshi was born in Glitzville when Mario took in an unhatched Yoshi egg as his own. Upon hatching, the Yoshi proved to be spunky and extremely energetic, always amping for a tussle. Knowing Mario by his stage name "The Great Gonzales", the Yoshi joined Mario's adventure, and eventually stood by his side after their adventures in the Glitz Pit. 

  • (Happy and grateful) "Yo! Gonzales! Check me out! Thanks to you, I hatched safe and sound! Thanks man!"

  • (Pumped and excited) "Anyway, I gotta repay you for saving me from old Hoggle out there, so I'll fight for you! I can hold my own! I'll swallow any opponent whole, honest! Just leave it to me!" 

  • (Cocky to Curious) "Wow, I really pushed that dude's buttons huh? Well, forget him! We got a problem! Your map pointed to Glitzville, right? If that dude's belt had a FAKE Crystal Star on it... Then where the heck is the real one at?"

Vivian is the youngest sibling of the three Shadow Sirens and works under Grodus to fight Mario. Unlike her two sisters, however, Vivian is kind and compassionate, wanting to always be of aid to the people she cares about. After enough bullying from her sisters, Vivian finds comfort in Mario and temporarily helps him out before truly joining him on his quest. 

  • (Shocked before grateful) "Gee whiz, you have WAY worse problems than I do! And you were worried about me that whole time... That's so... kind..." 

  • (Determined before happy) "Alright, that's it! I'm gonna help you get your body back! And your name! And your friends! Hey! That's okay! Don't worry about my problems... I'm not sure I really want to stay with my sisters anymore, anyway..." 

  • (Somber before becoming determined) "I'm... I'm sorry sis... this Mario is the only person who's ever been kind to me... Mario! I'm fighting by your side from now own! I've... I've made my choice! And I'm not turning back!"

Admiral Bobbery is an old pirate who retired the seven seas for reasons initially unknown. The proud and prideful Bob-omb once ruled the ocean but retired his role at the ship's deck due to not being able to save his wife Scarlette, who died of an illness. After learning what Scarlette wished of him before her death, Bobbery joined Mario's adventure, his spirit, and thirst for adventure being rekindled. 

  • (Irritated and slightly Bitter) "What?!? Oh, by Blabberton's beard! Not you again! No matter how many times you entreat me, my stance is firm! Now away with you!!" 

  • (Reinvigorated and confident) "Now then! You were looking for a navigator, I believe? Bound for Keelhaul Key? Harumph! If you think an old sea bomb like me is what you need, then let's shove off!!"

  • (Confused before recomposing) "Ah. Hm. Yes. Well. Really? This isn't a tropical paradise for fallen sailors? Oh, right... Now I recall! Mario, old boy! We still have work to do!"

Ms. Mowz is a globe-trotting thief, known for exploring the world for treasure. She's good at getting what she wants, and her encounters with Mario show her flirtatious and care-free nature. Upon receiving Mario's aid in finding a rare treasure, Ms. Mowz agrees to join him in his adventures. 

  • (Confident throughout) "Me? Why Ms. Mowz, the globe-trotting thief! Heard of me, sweetie~? I heard there were rare and valuable badges here in this castle. That's why I'm here." 

  • (Flirty before curiosity) "Huh? Oh my! Who's this handsome piece of cheese? I can't believe there are other thieves here besides me. How very strange..." 

  • (Curious but confident) "Hm! I just thought of something. Perhaps I should just travel with you from now on... Because, hmm hmm, I'm sure to find lots of badges that way, don't you think?"

Beldam is the eldest sister of the Shadow Sirens, and is considered by both siblings as the leader. Bossy and crude, Beldam continuously berates both of her sisters, calling them out on small mistakes as a way to prove her superiority. As the leader of the group, Beldam sees herself as perfect, and even tends to blame any of her own mistakes on the youngest sister Vivian. 

  • (Conniving before determined) "Mmmmwee hee hee hee... Fear not, sire. I, Beldam, shall return with what you seek. Let's go, my lovelies! Marilyn! Vivian! Come! We've got a job to do!"  

  • (Irritated and Condescending) "If I don't have it, then OBVIOUSLY you must have it! And OBVIOUSLY, you lost it! Or... are you trying to imply that I lost it, you little lollygagging worm?"

  • (Cocky and scheming) "Thank you SO much for opening the door for us, Mario! Yes, that was nice! Thanks to your do-gooder predictability, my plan is progressing very smoothly..."

A strange being known as a duplighost, Doopliss is one of the major bosses in the game. At first, he appears as a conniving and sinister prankster, turning the citizens of Twilight town into pigs via curse. And after stealing the name and body of Mario himself, Doopliss is soundly defeated and runs off. Afterward, Doopliss is revealed to have taken Vivian's place in the Shadow Sirens, and helps them to carry out Grodus's plan to take over the world. 

  • (Snarky and Snappy) "Who're you calling a monster? What's your problem? Why do you need to pick a fight? I'm busy thinking up new pranks and stuff! It's not easy either! Now get lost!"

  • (Condescending and humored) "Well... you know, they're all so depressing and boring and dimwitted all the time... So instead of wallowing in gloom, I figured they might as well wallow in mud! HA!"

  • (Happy but condescending) "Hey, what's up Slick?! Been waiting for you! Yeah, you're Mario, right? What a great name! And I really dig this body too! MAN, can I jump now! And hey! You're so popular around here, I get mobbed! I just love being you!"
