Paella - Animated Series Pilot
Project Overview
Note: This is a no-budget project. We will not be able to compensate actors beyond crediting and social-media shout outs.
Paella is a 5-episode animated comedy for the Chop 2 The Top OCT competition. The story follows Ducky, an amature detective in search of an ancient treasure, the Golden Paella. This treasure is said to be locked in the legendary Tower of Gobble, the holy land for all things food and cooking. Ducky must climb the unique floors of the tower and complete wacky food-related challenges in order to finally solve the mystery, as well as find her friend who disappeared looking for it.
The story will be told in 5-10 minute episodes, with a 2 month gap between each installment. If you don't fit any of the current characters, be sure to check back before the next installment to audition again.
Auditioners must be available to voice their characters until the end of July 2022, when the final episode premieres.
Auditions close November 30th.
Recording will begin immediately after and lines will need to be completed by December 10th.

An eccentric, duck-themed detective who has been desperately trying to solve a 10-year-old mystery. Her hyperactive and mood-switching personality often gets her into trouble, making her journey all the more difficult. Ducky lives her life and her speech at 100mph and won’t stop until she completes every goal on her list.
Tone: Hyperactive, excited, smug, blunt, rude without realizing
"Okay listen up, cause we have a lot to go over. Alright so this is me. I’m part of a group of detectives that have been hunting down the rarest foods in all the world. We call ourselves the “Duck-tectives”! On our hunt to find the world’s most secret foods, we’ve come across treasures like the Spamburger, the Chocolate Potato Salad, and the McDonalds Quarter Pounder with the actual correct amount of pickles on it. But no legendary food has evaded us as much as the Golden Paella. This treasure has been lost for nearly ten years, that is until today. After carefully investigating an instagram post from one of our ex-members, we discovered a magical tower that is said to be the location of the Golden Paella! Thus, my journey to this sacred location began!"
"I don't care what you want! I need you to take me to the next floor! I don't care about your damn lemonade stand! Where am I supposed to get lemons here? I...I don't understand."
"Finally, this mystery can come to a close. (beat) And when I solve the mystery, I’ll finally find you."
The gigantic, 100ft weasel that guards the first floor of the tower. Pepperika is a spunky, fun loving creature that can bring a cheerful mood to any situation. However, her positive pep-talks are often interrupted by furballs she needs to cough up. She can get serious when the time comes, but always maintains a happy composure.
Tone: Happy, cheerful, relaxed, confident
Pitch: Mid-high
"Hi! So glad you could make it to the tower! We’re holding a tournament where you can travel-- puh, plah!
*spitting out fur caught in her mouth, blowing raspberries while still trying to talk*
--and you’ll be crowned the best chef in the world if you can do it!"
"Then you get to travel the five floors of the tower, each with it’s own unique challenges and danger. Do you think you can handle it?"
"Oooooh you're the bad guys. In that case...we have to kill you."
The goofy, dimwitted character that blocks Ducky from entering the tower until she gives him lemonade. Triangle Guy never comprehends Ducky’s explanations, and always reverts back to his need for lemonade, until he finally forces her to get him the drink.
Tone: Dumb, slow, drolling, lazy
Pitch: Low/cartoony low (think Patrick from Spongebob)
Well um, I need you to get me a lemonade.
Well maybe if you get a lemon then you can make lemonade and then I can drink lemonade and I’ll be happy because I’ll have a lemonade to have-- Hey. Can you get me a lemonade?
I'm not actually a guardian, I just wanted a lemonade. *goofy laugh*
The judgemental co-captain of the Tower Boat. She is constantly on her tablet, never giving anyone the time of day. She chimes into conversations just to offer a condescending comment, or to call Ducky a boomer. Probably a valley girl.
Tone: Sarcastic, snarky, annoyed, “ok boomer” attitude
So what are you, some kind of cosplayer?
Ducktecktives? Isn't that a big group of nerds that pretends to solve mysteries from their mom's basements?
(after someone makes a comment about Ducks) ...that's really offensive.
The overly-chill boat driver that takes Ducky to the tower. He is easily persuaded, agrees to almost everything, and doesn’t know how to stand up for himself. Despite that, he is very relaxed and happy, and doesn’t seem to care when he is taken advantage of.
Tone: Nonchalant, uncaring, unconfident, “whatever”
(After Ducky's long speech) ...yeah okay.
Okay, that's gonna be twenty dollars...okay well I need to be paid.
Oh well...
