NEEDED: Voices for Audio Drama

Project Overview

This is an audio drama of a fanfic I've written called The Sodor Chronicles: The Diesel Affair, which re-imagines popular Thomas the Tank Engine characters as humans. It's as if the show were rewritten for Masterpiece Theater, shall we say? It's had a good reception so I decided to set out on this project of bringing it to life with voices. There's drama, action, violence, intrigue and I think it'll be a whole heckuva lot of unorthodox fun.

  • All Roles Have Been Filled!

Thanks so much to everyone that auditioned! We ended up going ahead and casting on account of finding the perfect actors for the respective roles. Both of these roles were VERY difficult to cast as we had a specific idea in mind of what both characters needed to sound like. Every audition we got was magnificent though and we really appreciate the interest in the project. We will no doubt have projects on here in the near future for casting and I hope we get to work with each and every one of you. Thanks again so much! Just to add, as I know some actors have an interest in this, if any of you would like more in-depth critiques on your auditions feel free to ask and we'll be happy to oblige over PM. Thanks again, you all are awesome!

This project aims to make an audio drama out of a fanfic I've written in which characters from Thomas the Tank Engine are humanized (bear with me here). Victor is based on the Cuban engine from the show; chief engineer of the Sodor Steamworks, fatherly, usually in good spirits, but he can be stern when necessary.  I'm looking for a deeper, mature sounding voice for this role, someone who can successfully pull off a Cuban accent and is comfortable saying and pronouncing the occasional Spanish properly. If necessary check on David Bedella's rendition of the engine character in the recent Thomas episodes to get an idea of what I'm looking for.

  • "I love her...and so I should've had better self control. Sir Topham Hatt had every right to send me away. There was no future. There is nothing I could offer her that would be comparable to the life she's known."

  • "You're right, Miss Hatt, I do fix engines…but it's not that simple. Sometime when I'm not busy I'd love to explain everything that we do. Your father knows the ins and outs of engine repair and maintenence better than any Controller I've ever met. I would think it essential knowledge for someone who plans to take over in his stead."

  • "You are being educated now! If you would pay attention half as much as you complain, you might learn something! ¡Ay, no puedo creer esto!"

Based (perhaps loosely) on the emerald engine from the show proper, Emily is the daughter of Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt, is the niece of an Earl and as such has lived a life of privilege. While she is dutiful to her father, she is also just a little bit petulant and self righteous. She also feels a bit trapped by expectation- she has dreams of her own that she has resigned to never being realized on account of it not being suitable for her status. She should sound speak with a proper English accent (Southern England, somewhat like the Queen), should sound a tad bit stuck up and a bit like a know-it-all. This role will vary a lot in emotion and I need someone who can carry that range properly.

  • "You've been acting petulant ever since you returned from London. Stop being silly, Gordon. You can't honestly expect father to groom you for Controller when you couldn't even keep your own businesses afloat."

  • "It's okay, Mr. Castillo. You seem quite busy, I'd hate to interrupt the flow of work. Besides, what's to explain? You fix steam engines. It's not that complicated."

  • "How dare you! The very nerve to insinuate that I'm ignorant just because I have been isolated on this island and the estate all my life. It's hardly been my choice and it hasn't stopped me from educating myself!"
