INTRODUCTION

Hello, everyone! This casting call is for Musical-ception: The Musical about Making a Musical

We're casting for mainly speaking roles since the songs have already been recorded separately.

All roles are in the English language.

MUSICAL LONGLINE

Musical-ception: The Musical about Making a Musical is an animated parody of Phantom of the Opera, The Producers, and Singing in the Rain. It is about a theater, in danger of shutting down, that is the home of a troupe that has fallen from grace.

The main character, Philip, wants to save the theater from closing, but he has to deal with the greedy producers and the theater owner's son, who is a diva and the lead male actor. He also has to deal with his own insecurities. However, when Philip meets Rose, a ditzy actress, he finds that his plan to save the theater has gotten more complicated than it already was.

Philip is a man of mystery to say the least.  This is because he's always in the shadows to the point where people think he's just a ghost or some urban legend in the Apex Theater. Philip is very serious and can be intimidating in appearance and personality, but deep down, he's very insecure, which is why he wears a mask borrowed from the theater's wardrobe department. However, things get difficult when he meets Rose, a ditzy actress, during his plan to save the theater from shutting down.

  • (nervously) Please don’t panic. I only did this to get your attention.

  • (annoyed) What a show off...

  • (annoyed) Of course he has a sidekick. Ugh, how typical...

Rose

The best way to describe Rose is that she's a complete airhead. She tends to not pay any attention at all and always has her head in the clouds, dreaming of the day she becomes a famous actress. Rose often accompanied by her two best friends, Kitty and Meg, who balance her out in either being caring regarding the situation or snarky at everything. When Rose meets Phillip, she immediately falls for him while being blissfully unaware of the crisis the theater is currently in.

  • [You're responding to your friends about being late to rehearsal] Everyone thinks I’m late. I wasn’t...I think I wasn’t late. That’s so weird. Is it bad?

  • (annoyed) What’s taking him so long? Jeez, and they said I was running late...

  • (excited) I think I’m in love...

Andrew

Andrew is the Apex Theater owner's son and the biggest diva to ever act in the theater's history. He loses his mind whenever it's not about him, he feels as though he's being upstaged, or when he doesn't get the starring role that he wants, making the producers bow to his every whim. Andrew has an intense rivalry with Rose after she becomes the lead. He's never seen without his best friend, Victor, following him around and backing him up on everything.

  • (annoyed) Uh, excuse me? Don’t you know what will happen if you try to interrupt me?

  • (angered) Look, you assholes. My dad owns this theater and he could get your asses fired quicker than you can say box office winner. You need to make sure this is all smooth sailing, understood?

  • (groans) This is so unfair. That old script was brilliant.

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Mr. Gene

Mr. Gene is one of the two producers, known for his chaotic and greedy attitude. The only thing on his mind is getting and making tons of money by doing various shows to save the theater, even if he's only in it for cash. However, the only things he fears are getting fired and the Apex Theater owner's current wife. Mr. Gene tends to be sarcastic at times and the chaos he radiates can be a little off putting to the theater employees and other actors. He has a transatlantic sounding accent.

  • [You're asking about Rose] Yeah, I get it, but come on, what’s her big tragic backstory? Orphan? Dead parental figure?

  • (annoyed) Yeah, whatever. Originals are fine to use for auditions. At least you’re not doing some Disney, Les Mis, A Star is Born, Annie, or Andrew Lloyd Webber crap like everyone else.

  • (laughs) Oh shit. You need some ice for that burn?

Mr. Max is one of the two producers, often seen with Mr. Gene. He's a major worrywart and is very concerned about him and Gene's jobs (especially when it comes to the "ghost" haunting the theater). Mr. Max seems to be the only one not concerned with only making money and just wants to keep his job, but things get worse when the owner's wife arrives. He speaks with a transatlantic accent.

  • (nervously) Fuck, what are we supposed to do? I don’t want that she devil coming after us...

  • [You're commenting on the audience] It’s great. We’ve got every seat in this damn theater filled. Who knows? Maybe we’ll be saved.

  • (laughs nervously) Yeah, exactly like that...

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Victor

Victor is Andrew's loyal best friend (even if he wants to be more than friends with him). He's you’re a-typical sidekick with how he constantly backs up Andrew and agrees with him on everything. Victor seems to always say either "yeah, what he said" or "that's right" right after Andrew says something. He gets dragged into Andrew and Rose's rivalry to be on his best friend's side to defend him.

  • [You're complimenting Andrew] That was fantastic, Andrew. I would give it a perfect ten. You deserve a Tony for that.

  • (excited) So, what does it say? Read it, read it, read it.

  • (annoyed) I don’t really need to repeat what he said, but yeah. Shut up.

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Christine

A shrewd and snobbish woman nicknamed the "she devil," Christine is Andrew's stepmother and the Apex Theater owner's current wife. She's always on her phone with her husband and she's always yelling at him when it comes to the smallest things. Christine comes in during Act 2 to terrorize the producers into actually doing a good job at saving the theater. She doesn't care much about her stepson and is on her phone all of the time.

  • (annoyed) You’re the one who sent me here because you had to talk to our lawyer. Tell Emmy that her hair appointment means nothing compared to this.

  • [You're on the phone] Gerard, there’s some weirdo in a mask at the rehearsal. Yes, call the police, you idiot. This man could be a violent sociopath who lives in the sewers.

  • (angry) Is this some joke? Because I’m not laughing. Does he even know who I am?

Turner is a stuck up and somewhat harsh critic. He's a bit full of himself and likes his opinions to be heard.

  • [you're talking about the troupe's musicals] Personally, I believe that their quality has gone down drastically.

  • (groans) Oh shit, they’re doing another show to save the theater.

  • [you're talking about the upcoming show] Well, I guess they can keep trying to save the theater and fall on their faces or asses in the process.

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Kitty

Kitty is one of Rose's best friends. She's very sweet, optimistic, and has a calm sounding voice.

  • (sighs) That’s fine, Rose. It’s only a minor slip up and you need to not do that again, got it?

  • [You're talking about a musical that Eugene has done] Yeah, I think you did...

  • [You're talking about Philip] Hell if I know. They say that the Apex Ghost is only interested in haunting the place.

Meg

Meg is one of Rose's best friends. She's the opposite of Kitty in being sarcastic, fierce, and harsh in comparison to her optimistic friend as well as Rose's air headed nature.

  • [in response to Mr. Houston] Like what? A bitch?

  • (groans) You’re a real Gaston, Andrew.

  • (annoyed) Jeez, Rose. It’s only us. We’re here to check on you.

Mr. Houston is the director of SoundCrowd's musicals. He knows more than he lets on and tends to act a bit mysterious about it, being the only person who knows about Philip's secrets.

  • (annoyed) Yes, sir, I’m well aware of what your father will do. Now, can we get back to rehearsing?

  • [You're talking about Rose's backstory] Her mother died of...something, I think it was the plague while her father used to be a famous violinist, but I’m not sure. He retired and became some sort of inventor. Honestly, I don’t know what her dad does now.

  • (laughs) You clever devil...

Lucas is the stagehand of the Apex Theater. He's very superstitious and is paranoid about everything, but especially when it comes to the rumors of the ghost haunting the theater.

  • (panicked) I saw him myself. The ghost is haunting our theater again. We’re all doomed. We’re all going to die.

  • (panicked) Stay away from me. You’re always ruining everything, ghost.

  • (worried) What do I do? I hate to get her angry by doing nothing despite my injuries.

  • (annoyed) No offense, but I have a girlfriend already.

  • (excited) Sing with more feeling. It’s just like the time I performed Edelweiss in my debut performance. Have I told you that story?

  • [You're talking about the upcoming musical] Let us hope that this musical will be our most successful attempt. I can oversee the performances if possible.

  • (annoyed) No, no, no, you must sing it with feeling.

  • (laughs) Relax, it’s just a show. Don’t take things too seriously.

  • [You just came in] So, what did I miss?

Emmy is Christine and Gerard's daughter and Andrew's stepsister. She generally sounds like your typical teenage girl and turns whiny when she gets bored or annoyed.

  • (annoyed) Mom, why are we here? I had a nail appointment today and you had to drag my ass here. It’s so unfair.

  • [You're talking about the musical] Is it just going to be this opera Disney fairy tale crap the whole time?

  • (interested) Okay, this just got way more interesting.
