Muppets Take Broadway
Project Overview
Hi-ho! Muppets Take Broadway - how?
Muppets Take Broadway will be a brand-new parody channel featuring various tributes to both iconic Broadway musicals and Jim Henson's Muppety creations - performing globally on YouTube!
In order to do that, we'll need to make a team. If all goes to plan there's going to be voice actors, singers, animators, and artists all working together to create a little bit of Muppet magic that might make other people happy!
In terms of a story, the YouTube channel will be framed as if The Muppets have decided to take on Broadway hits - even if the results are unconventional. Ever wanted to see Sam Eagle in Hamilton? Rizzo the Rat as Beetlejuice? Kermit and Miss Piggy playing Mia & Sebastian? Here's your chance!
Requirements:Like Kermit said in The Muppet Movie - "I have a dream too, but it's about singing and dancing and making people happy. It's the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. And I found a whole group of friends who have the same dream, and that makes us sort of like a family."
With the crazy times that we're living in, I had this idea and thought that if anyone else out there would want to help and work together on this, it might be fun for everyone while making all those same people happy!
The main requirements are that your selected Muppet impression is true to the character, your microphone is of high-quality, you have fun, and that you are passionate about the project and its source material. If you are auditioning for non-voice roles then the main focus is having fun and having a base level of skill behind you. If you have a knack for improvising and throwing ideas around, that's even better!
Auditions:In order to get this right, Voice Actors will need to sound as close to the original characters as possible - even while singing. It is highly recommended that you review your character's source material before auditioning. For these auditions, you are free to improvise by reading quotes from the chosen character and singing a short verse to get a feel for your singing voice!
For non-voice auditions, feel free to send me a message through Discord and we can go over your previous work. The main key for this project is that the team created has a passion for the source material.
Deadline:Since I am staying home like most of you might be, production has been coming along steadily with everyone currently involved. If possible, the goal would be to begin releasing the series by the holiday season. Above all, quality comes first.
Here's an example of what our first three projects are:
The Whole Being Dead Thing | Beetlejuice - Rizzo the Rat
Gaston | Beauty and the Beast - Gonzo, Rizzo the Rat, & Pepe the King Prawn
Another Day of Sun | La La Land - Kermit the Frog & Miss Piggy
If you've read up to this point - thank you. To talk more, my Discord is Phil#1244. I hope you all have fun and good luck!

Hi-ho! Phil here to say a huge thank you to everyone who has auditioned and followed this project thus far. It means the world to our team as we've started production, and are excited to let you know that we will be moving to a new Casting Call project page at the link below. The response has been incredible to see, and we can't wait to share a preview of what we have been working on soon! https://www.castingcall.club/projects/muppets-take-broadway-ab938378-16d0-450b-add1-425b8374939d

Miss Piggy is a prima-donna pig who is absolutely convinced that she's destined for stardom, and nothing is going to stand in her way. Her public face is the soul of feminine charm, but she can instantly fly into a rage whenever she thinks she's insulted or thwarted. Kermit has learned this all too well; when she isn't smothering him in kisses, she's sending him flying through the air with a karate-chop.

Fozzie Bear is The Muppet Show's resident comedian. He's an orange-brown, fuzzy Muppet bear who tells bad jokes, usually punctuated with his catchphrase laugh, "Wocka wocka wocka!" Fozzie's best friend is Kermit the Frog, although they occasionally have differences of opinion.

Gonzo, formally known as "The Great Gonzo" or "Gonzo the Great," is the resident daredevil performance artiste on The Muppet Show. He is an odd looking, unclassifiable creature with blue fur, bug eyes, and a long crooked nose. He takes pride in his uniqueness and enjoys everything that he does -- no matter how painful or ill-advised it may be.

Camilla the Chicken is the female chicken that is Gonzo's love interest on The Muppet Show.

Pepe the King Prawn, whose full name is Pepino Rodrigo Serrano Gonzales, started life in Madrid, Spain. He worked as a chef, before moving to Hollywood and following his true calling in show business. In a TVGuide.com chat in 1999, he remarked, "There were one too many close calls in the kitchen. I was mistaken for an appetizer, okay."

Rizzo the Rat is a rat who has a tendency to crack mocking jokes at others or make fun of them. Sometimes, as seen in The Muppets Take Manhattan, he tries to cheat people into getting something he wants. However, he also has a sensitive side (according to Tim Hill and Gonzo during an audio commentary for Muppets from Space) and is good friends with Gonzo and Pepe the King Prawn.

Yolanda Rat first appeared in The Muppets Take Manhattan as one of several rats befriended by Rizzo. She appeared sporadically over the years, until taking on a regular role as Kermit the Frog's assistant in ABC's The Muppets.

Sam the Eagle is an American eagle who feels his species and role as a national symbol have placed certain responsibilities upon his shoulders. He has taken it upon himself to promote and protect wholesome American morals and values, and he works behind the scenes of The Muppet Show as a self-appointed censor and advocate of cultural and educational acts.

Rowlf the Dog was the first Muppet to reach national stardom as a cast member of The Jimmy Dean Show from 1963 to 1966. He later went on to serve as the resident piano player on The Muppet Show, also playing the silly surgeon Dr. Bob on the recurring sketch "Veterinarian's Hospital."

Uncle Deadly is a blue, reptilian-looking creature, also known as "the Phantom of the Muppet Show". Deadly made occasional appearances on The Muppet Show, and faded from prominence when the show ended. In 2011, Deadly returned in a pivotal role in The Muppets, as Tex Richman's henchman, and later became a prominent character on the ABC series The Muppets.

Scooter serves as a "gofer" backstage on The Muppet Show, and appeared from the first produced episode through the end of the series. Possessing glasses with eyes embedded in the lenses[1] and generally wearing a green track jacket, Scooter is a vaguely humanoid character of unknown heritage (as cited in Of Muppets and Men,[2] when pressed about his family, he explained that his mother was a parrot but he didn't know about his father).

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is the resident scientist on The Muppet Show, and the host of the Muppet Labs sketches. In season one of The Muppet Show he worked alone, but in season two, his assistant Beaker was added to the show. Bunsen is always eager to show off his latest scientific discovery, but his excitement about progress tends to render him short-sighted. Beaker usually ends up being harmed by Dr. Honeydew's inventions. Bunsen Honeydew's name comes from the scientific instrument called the Bunsen burner, and the shape of his head, which looks like a honeydew melon.

Statler and Waldorf are a pair of elderly Muppet characters known for their cantankerous opinions and shared penchant for heckling. They share the stage left balcony box in The Muppet Theatre, and the two delight in heckling every aspect of The Muppet Show.

Dr. Teeth is the leader of the Electric Mayhem, the house band on The Muppet Show. Originally performed by Jim Henson, Dr. Teeth plays the keyboard and is also the lead singer of the band.

Animal is the wild drummer on The Muppet Show, performing with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Animal is a crazed percussionist with three styles of music -- loud, louder, and deafening. He speaks in a guttural shout, often repeating a few simple phrases, such as "BEAT DRUMS! BEAT DRUMS!" or "WO-MAN!" In relatively calmer moods, he is capable of more coherent conversation, but these instances are infrequent.

Floyd Pepper is the bass player for the Electric Mayhem band on The Muppet Show. Frequently paired with Janice, Floyd also has a certain influence on Animal, or at least as much as anyone can. In picture books such as The Case of the Missing Mother, or certain installments of the Muppet comic strip, Floyd is practically Animal's keeper, pulling his chain and looking after him.

Janice is the free-spirited lead guitar player in The Electric Mayhem on The Muppet Show.

Zoot is the balding, blue-haired saxophone player for the Electric Mayhem. According to his performer and builder Dave Goelz, "Zoot is just a fifty-year-old burnt-out musician."

Big Mean Carl is a shaggy monster who continues the proud tradition of Muppet characters with voracious appetites.

Waldo C. Graphic, "the spirit of 3D", is a computer graphic, as his name suggests, rather than a standard fleece-and-foam Muppet. As such, he's able to morph into any shape imaginable. He has the playful nature of a clown, yet with the intelligence of a computer. Waldo first appeared in 1989 on The Jim Henson Hour where he was the demographics expert for MuppeTelevision. His most prominent role was in the Disney theme park attraction Muppet*Vision 3D, engaging with the Muppets and audience members, attempting to get out of the film, and even morphing into Mickey Mouse (voiced by Wayne Allwine).

Sweetums is a large, hairy ogre who towers above his human and Muppet co-stars. His bulldog-like lower jaw, thick eyebrows, shabby brown shirt, and threatening expression belie his more or less genial nature.

CHIP is the I.T. guy (aka Information Technology Guy) for Up Late with Miss Piggy. While new to many people—or maybe just forgettable in that way IT guys tend to be—Chip has been around the Muppets for quite awhile. He began as part of Gorilla Television, a pirate broadcast group, on The Jim Henson Hour. He took time off to pursue an advanced degree in Synergistic Informational Technology & Modern Dance. Though modestly talented as an actor, Chip has really hit his sweet spot as tech czar at Miss Piggy’s late night chat show.

Bean Bunny first appeared in 1986 as the star of the TV special The Tale of the Bunny Picnic. He was part of a family headed by Father Bunny and Mother Bunny and helped make peace with the farmer's dog.

This role is for an animator who can sketch out animatics featuring The Muppets as they perform various (and unconventional) sketches that don't always go to plan! Similar to a storyboard, they don't need to be fully-fledged and colored segments, but an easy-to-understand method of storytelling for the viewer.

For this role, this project is in need of a video editor who could capture the wackiness of The Muppets in a two-dimensional video method. Since getting our hands on actual puppet replicas isn't easy, using reference images to storyboard the sketches is the next best option! If possible, an editing style similar to this video would be preferable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8w4JgsMQPA

Think you've got what it takes to surpass Gonzo, Rizzo, and Pepe's writing wit? Here's your chance to surpass that very low bar! This role is meant for someone with both creative and scriptwriting experience who can bring a fresh but familiar humor to The Muppets. Above all, genuinely writing the characters as themselves and not caricatures of themselves is key to making this project stand out. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me on Discord at Phil#1244 - good luck!

This role is for a 2D animator who can bring The Muppets to life as they perform various (and unconventional) sketches that don't always go to plan! Some of these animated segments would be similar to the Muppet Labs Field Test segments in Muppets NOW - as if the characters were animated on a chalkboard. If you have a specific style, feel free to showcase it in your application of previous work!

This role is meant for a creative who can create concept art and storyboards for different sequences in this project. Experience is preferred, but most of all is an appreciation and passion for the source material that made The Muppets so great!

This role is for someone with previous experience in sound design who can bring the zaniness of The Muppets into the viewer's eardrums! Reach out to me on Discord at Phil#1244 for any questions.
