Project Overview:
External // Pulse is an experimental motion comic – combining lightly animated comic panels with voice acting, sound design, and a compelling narrative. What makes this project unique is its transformation of the motion comic format into an interactive game, driven by cinematic storytelling and quick-time events (QTEs).
Developed by a small team of four as a school project, the game aims to push the boundaries between visual storytelling and gameplay. While compact in scope, External // Pulse delivers a rich narrative, striking art direction, and an emotional arc built on character-driven moments. Trailers will be released at launch, and the game will be available for free on itch.io.
(Note: As this is an indie project, some early bugs may occur – but active efforts will be made to fix them. Full credits will be shown in the main menu and at the end of the game.)
Story Summary:
The story follows Fox, a gifted but scrappy mechanic and engineer surviving in the dystopian undergrounds of a cyberpunk world by selling his work on the black market. Fox dreams of escaping the filth and decay of the underground's black market to reach Sky City – a gleaming metropolis rumored to bring great succsess to brilliant minds, untouched by the corruption below.
His journey takes an unexpected turn when he’s robbed by a mysterious figure – Hare. A rare reversal of roles, Hare steals a prototype energy core that Fox was building, a core powerful enough to restore life to damaged systems – or in this case, to save Hare’s own life. Hare is partly cybernetic – Her body heavily modified by the Wolf Pack, a ruthless gang of enforcers. Now hunted and desperate, Hare needs the battery to survive.
Fox, furious but curious, chases Hare – only for both of them to stumble into a confrontation with the Wolf Pack themselves, led by the brutal and imposing Alpha. What follows is a tense alliance, unexpected revelations, and a shared fight for survival.
Character Notes:
All characters are human, but their names reflect their personalities and design: "Fox" is cunning and clever, "Hare" is fast and resourceful, "Alpha" is dominant and aggressive, etc. This symbolic naming adds a layer of thematic depth while keeping the tone slightly stylized and allegorical.

Character Description: Fox
Fox is a clever, eccentric mechanic who lives in the depths of the underground – surrounded by rusted scrap, broken machines, and forgotten dreams. Though he’s on his own, he’s a true survivalist: resourceful, quick-witted, and always one step ahead. With his sly grin and sarcastic sense of humor, he’s got a vibe similar to Nick Wilde.
- charming, a little mischievous, and sometimes too confident for his own good. He doesn’t always know when to stop talking, which can land him in trouble more often than he’d like to admit.
But behind the jokes and the bravado lies a deeper longing: Fox dreams of escaping the junkyard and reaching Sky City – a place he imagines as a paradise above the grime and grit of his current life. It’s that dream that keeps him going, no matter how rough things get.

Character Description: Hare
Hare is a fast, sharp, and street-smart survivor. After being modified by the Wolf Pack, half her body was replaced with cybernetics. She stole Fox’s battery out of desperation — not greed — to keep herself alive. Cautious and independent, Hare hides her vulnerability behind a tough exterior, but there's more to her than she lets on.

Character Description: Wolf (Alpha)
The Wolf Pack is a ruthless gang ruling parts of the underground with fear and violence. Heavily augmented and loyal only to their own, they hunt the weak and exploit anyone with something valuable. Their leader, Alpha, is brutal, strategic, and obsessed with control. The Pack is more than a gang — they’re a symbol of the system’s decay, and a constant threat to anyone trying to escape it.

Character Description: Old Man (Shopkeeper)
The Old Man runs a small repair shop deep in the underground's black market. Quiet and worn down by years of hardship, he tries to survive just like everyone else. Early in the story, he’s harassed by Alpha and the Wolf Pack for protection money he can’t afford. Though powerless against them.
