[CLOSED] Milgram Audio Drama Fandub

Project Overview

Oh geez this is gonna be something!


Heyo I'm Julie or Juliru! I'm like a huge fan of Milgram, and I kind have been wanting to get back into doing audio dramas and the like. Milgram is pretty cool and all, but the audio drama is pretty obscure and doesn't have a lot of attention drawn to it. There isn't any official dubs or anything of the sorts of anything Milgram related as well, so I decided screw it, I want to do dubs of the audio drama and upload them to YouTube, minimally illustrated with one to two visual novel like CG(s) per drama. The series is ongoing, so the plan is we would try to catch up and then follow up the releases of the dramas when we can, so this would be a mighty long-term project I'd say.

I'm looking for voice actors. However, I also need technically skilled people to assist me with various things (as opposed to voice actors, I will most likely cast multiple and contact them when felt appropriate rather than waiting for the deadline to approach


DEADLINE: March 31st (11:59 PM EST).


Milgram Synopsis:

"The premise is that there are 10 prisoners residing in the Milgram Prison; they have all committed "murder". Over time, their mental images will be projected into a music video, containing hints and clues hidden in it. With these videos in mind, it is up to you to find out the truth behind their actions and deem whether they should be forgiven (innocent) or not (guilty)."

There are 3 trials or seasons with their respective music videos and audio dramas for each prisoner that round.

IMPORTANT:

  • 16+. This series has very serious themes that I would not feel comfortable in having younger individuals taking apart in.
  • Unless you're trying out for something other than a voice actor, no casting will be done before deadline.
  • The entire psyche of these characters and who these people are have not been revealed yet due to the nature of Milgram. Because of this, some characters may be revealed to actually be very different than they act, because of that I wish my VAs to be fairly versatile and prepared for anything.
  • Please show emotion. There will be a lot of cursing, crying, yelling, etc.
  • Must have good audio quality.
  • Interest in Milgram would be great and helpful but not required.
  • Follow up on previous point: If you are auditioning for a prisoner or Es it may be helpful for you to look up their music video(s) on the Milgram channel as they show a lot of the core of the character.
  • Must be committed and be able to meet deadlines (usually around a month-two months+).
  • Must have a discord. That's where everything's happening.
  • These characters do not have official dub voices, so people who would sound similar to the Japanese voices would be preferable, but I will always take into consideration different takes of the voice that still embody the character. A versatile and emotive VA will always be considered over one who sounds exactly the same but cannot emote as well.
  • This will be unpaid. 

Workload:

Audio Dramas are about 10-20 minutes each so far.

Es takes part in all of them, but prisoners will presumably take part in 3 each (with slight exceptions). Each character will have their time to shine.

May do some other Milgram related dubs like the information videos or comics or skits if interested/all goes well.

    Sorry for the notif this feels hella nostalgic to come back here but the cast process was...Painful. Very painful. You all are amazing, genuinely. I hope you all may go places in the future.

  • One Week Until the Deadline + Callbacks

    So like! Wow we're almost there. Here is your one week notice in case you need it~ I'm still absolutely blown away by the auditions so far, even more so now.

    With that I'd like to officially talk about callbacks. I have already given a few people callbacks (or just asked for general revisions). However, now that it's the one-week mark, I will really start to crack down on callbacks, so everyone doesn't have to wait forever for the casting choices. Usually, if you receive a callback, I'll either ask you to redo certain lines with a different delivery or different voice, or I might give you different lines entirely so I can be more certain about what your performance of the character may be like. I am saying this because I prefer to do this on discord as it's much easier to manage so, please don't ignore my friend request if you see it; if you don't respond to a callback for any reason, I will assume you are no longer interested in the character and the chances of getting them will lessen.

    Now I would like to say getting a callback for a character does NOT guarantee casting, nor does not getting one for a character mean you won't be casted for them; there may be some people in the cast who have never even SEEN my discord or a callback before. Getting a callback simply means I need more information. I wish to be as confident in my final choices as possible.

  • Shortened Deadline to March 31st

    Yo y'all!

    After some reflection I've decided to shorten the deadline to March 31st 11:59 PM EST.

    I might end up notifying you all about extending the deadline for individual character(s) if I would like to see more auditions for them, but everyone else will be closed at that time. If I do this you will be notified beforehand.

    I really did not expect to get as much auditions as I have so far, and you guys are all really good it's scary. And I'm probably going to get more and I'm terrified in a good way.

    MILGRAM is super important to me and I want to give it a very clean and official sounding dub it deserves. So I'm SO thrilled for the amount of interest and I thank you and wish you all the best of luck this remaining month! <3

Prison Guard and Protagonist.

Es is the stand in for the audience in Milgram. They are neutral, authoritative, curious, a blank slate, calm, and very committed to their position as guard. They don’t have any memory, but they know their purpose at Milgram and will fulfill it to its fullest; to judge the prisoners for their sins.

Es’s gender is unknown, so I am looking for an androgynous voice of sorts.

  • (Annoyed) "I’ll be the one asking the questions here! Ugh, no. I know exactly what’ll happen after that from Yuno’s interrogation. It’ll be okay. Just gotta calm down..."

  • (Amused, content) "Oh that. It’s because you’re the first prisoner to actually act like one. To be honest, it made me a little happy. So, that might be the real reason as to why I was so keen on teasing you. I had fun. So, thank you for that." (Firm, authoritative) "Prisoner number three, Futa. Come now, sing your sins!"

Horned Hare Guide.

Jackalope is another prison guard, and also Es’s main guide for Milgram. He is bossy, prideful, authoritative, sarcastic, talkative, funny, and feisty. He is key in making Es understand their place here. He seems to not think very highly of the prisoners and sees them all as criminals. Who knows how a prison got this rabbit here…


Note:

Jackalope is not a prisoner and has only been in one audio drama as a result, and it’s unknown if he’ll have another, so this may be a small role. However, it’s being considered to dub some of the information videos that Jackalope prominently speaks in.

Prisoner #1. A quiet teenage boy who often keeps his head down.

Haruka is nervous, insecure, and doesn’t like to talk often normally. He doesn’t view himself very highly, and just comes off as a nervous and stuttery kid at first. However, becomes very clingy to those who show him kindness, and is desperate to feel needed and validated. He can act much more neurotic and unstable at times.

  • (Shy, nervous) "A-Ah. Huh? Well… I-It’s bad for someone like me to talk about everyone else."

  • (Remorseful, Reserved) "It’ll happen sometime. I… I…Even though I try to be normal, everything gets ruined. You, everyone, if you knew me… If you knew everything that I did… I’m… gonna be abandoned, that’s bound to happen. Because I’m a selfish killer."

  • (Laughs in a slow, unhinged fashion at first) "Hahahaa… I’m sorry, Warden-san. For causing you trouble. Muu-san praises me. The useless me… She praises me, acknowledges me, looks at me, and she needs me. My current self only exists thanks to Muu-san."

Prisoner #2. A beautiful teenager and school student. 

On the surface she seems to be calm, laidback, controlled, seemingly bubbly, and pleasant to be around. However, over time she will reveal herself to be much more cold and closed off to other people around her, and doesn’t want others telling her who she is for her.

Whoever is casted as her must be able to pull off both sides of her.

  • (Friendly) "Firstly, I should introduce myself or something, right? Yuno Kashiki. Eighteen years old. I’m a high schooler. Born on the 2nd of September, I’m a Virgo. My blood type’s O."

  • (Cold, judgemental) "Ah, yes yes. Well, this is going to be purely—purely—personal opinion but…I find those kinds of assumptions preachy and unpleasant! They’re worthless! Arbitrarily deciding that I’m pitiable. Arbitrarily making up a backstory for me. Creating a personally idealized version of me. Creating an acceptable version of me. They really exist, you know, those kinds of people. And in particular, those kinds of people…won’t do anything for me. I’m not pitiable. My family gets along super well. And I’m not particularly struggling for money. I decided, of my own free will, to do it because I felt that it was necessary for me."

Prisoner #3. Hotblooded young man.

Futa is brash, youthful, rebellious, aggressive, and naive. He works for the name of justice, and doesn’t seem to think he really did anything to end up in Milgram. He acts first, thinks later, and is a gamer who is heavily implied to be very antisocial which causes him to act the way he does at times.

  • (Aggressive) "Hey, hey, hey, hey! Don’t go around evaluating people like you’re better than everyone else. Once I get outta here, I’m so gonna sue this place! You as well! You better not be thinking that you’ll get off scot-free!"

  • (Building up anger, hurt) "But still… why?" (Yells) "Me, too! I was like that, too! I also didn’t think it’d turn out that way!"

  • (Bitter, Quiet) "Hey. Look at me. My right eye. It looks awful, doesn’t it? This is what happens when you get stepped on with those safety boot-like shoes. Don’t recoil like that, that’s hurtful. According to Shidou, it’s likely that I won’t ever be able to see with this eye again. Sucks, huh."

Prisoner #4. A rich and snobby teenage girl.

First appears as apologetic, withdrawn, frail, frightened, and sensitive. Later is revealed to be a rich, arrogant privileged girl who thinks she’s a pitiable victim, and queen bee. Heavily implied to have self-esteem issues that fluctuate depending on how others view her.

  • (Bratty) "Not 'let’s say'! I have done nothing wrong! mean, my family is rich, and my appearance stands out--in a good way--too… they probably did it out of envy or prejudice or something, right? Do you know what an awful thing you’re saying right now?"

Prisoner #5. Reserved Middle aged doctor.

Shidou is reserved, polite, pessimistic, sorrowful, and quiet. He has done some truly questionable things when he was a doctor, and it ended up landing him in Milgram. He is very remorseful for his actions and believes he doesn’t deserve any mercy and deserves the death penalty in Milgram; it would utterly baffle him if anyone else decided otherwise.

Shidou has a lot of long-winded lines.

  • (Weak laugh, in pain) "It’s payback for kicking my shin like that. But, you know, I think it was an amazing mistake to have made. It was so radiant…to the point where it made me want to turn away. Just as I thought, you truly are a child…but that makes me incredibly happy."

  • (Remorseful, Firm) "Please listen to me, Es. I’ve killed people. Lots of them as well. It was for such a selfish reason too. I’m a fine specimen of what a genuine murderer ought to be. There’s no reason for you to forgive me. And, I don’t have the desire to be forgiven either. If you don’t put me to death, then neither the people I’ve killed nor their families will be at peace. Don’t you think so too?"

Prisoner #6. Friendly young adult woman.

Mahiru is warm like the sun; she’s friendly, sisterly, cheerful, and always smiling. She is a bit clingy and airy, and a hopeless romantic who spreads love and cheer to all around her, but she always just seems to have a sunny disposition and means well.

Prisoner #7. Casual middle-aged man.

Kazui is easy-going, a jokester, and a bit of a timid optimist, keeping his thoughts to himself. He seems friendly enough and is quite charming, but he is quite intelligent and finds himself lost in thought often. There's just a little something off and mysterious about him…

  • (Correcting himself, witty) "Oh, no no, don't think so ill of me. Well, this is speculation on my part, but if we can’t attack you, maybe you can’t attack us, either."

  • (Slightly distracted, remorseful) "I... see. It might be as you say. We just become more and more passive to avoid causing pain. Yeah… that's right. It's true that my lies killed her, and even now, I still haven't changed. No, that's not it – I can't change because I was already born this way. But… don't talk big without even knowing a thing about my feelings, kid."

Prisoner #8. Mature little girl. 

Amane is polite, formal, calm, and mature for her age. She always has a thin smile on her face, and acts a little like a know-it-all. Has strong beliefs, especially in being truthful and faithful, and strongly believes in god, showing a child-like purity. Though if you were to be a liar…Amane could become very different.

  • (Stubborn) "It is your duty to apologize to me first.... Do you understand? It is vital to always be on time for things. When you do something wrong, you need to apologize. Those are both my personal rules and those of society." (Interrupting Es) "No, I am not done talking. I need to make sure you are aware of your mistake. Why are you making a face like that? Is there something you want to say?"

  • (Chipper) "Ah, I am looking forward to it! Seeing whether your judgement will align with that of these higher standards! If that is the case, maybe Milgram would be the right world for us to live in, rather than the outside world! Milgram relies on your judgement, isn’t that right? In that case, you could become the mediator for a far more righteous world!!"

Prisoner #9. Average young man.

Mikoto seems like someone with a lot of common sense, and seems like the only normal person at Milgram, even if a bit defensive. He doesn't know why he's here unlike everyone else and thinks there must have been a mistake. However, he can also be very volatile and aggressive when provoked; there seems to be a lot more going on then he’ll let on.

Whoever is cast needs to be able to pull off both sides.

  • (Defensive) " No, no... You might be saying “interrogation”, but I already told you, there’s not really anything I’m hiding." (Asked for his name, then in realization) "Uh… Mikoto Kayano, 23. Wait, no! I’ve been wanting to talk to you this whole time, Warden-kun!"

  • (Confused) "Being locked up in a place like that sounds too awful…! None of the others really look the part, either. Listen, there’s even a primary schooler here. Like, Yun and Mu are just highschool girls, Haru looks like someone who can’t hurt a fly, and Futa would be an umbrella thief at worst. Then there’s Mappi, who is just a nice person– well, and well… Kazu and Shidou and… Koto do kind of seem like they could do some bad things, I guess."

  • (Aggressive, fed up) "AaaAAGH!! Fuck… Fuck…! Stop pissing me off!....Shut your mouth! You keep blabbering on and on… I’m gonna fucking kill you, you piece of shit! Going on, and on, and on… all high and mighty… like you aren’t just a kid! Serves you fucking right!"

Prisoner #10. Cool-headed young lady.

Kotoko is cold, calm, and bold. She is particularly logical and rational. However, it is also revealed to have a strong sense of justice, and desires to protect the weak from those who would dare pick on them. She is a bit of a scary figure to the others here.

  • (Firm) "“Everyone here is a killer”, is that true? Very well. I’ll figure it out by myself."

  • (Laughs) "Just as I hoped. So you want to work together with me, right? I’ll live up to your expectations and use up all of my power for you. Aside from following your will, I’m deciding to leave the rest up to you. But…" (Disappointment) "You’re too soft-hearted. I would have chosen to not forgive more prisoners. It’d be better if I were the prison guard… Well, just one thing is missing, I guess…"
