Meat Lover’s Special (HORROR)

Meat Lover’s Special (HORROR)

Project Overview

A short horror story reading, roughly 40-45 pages. It stars Echo, a highschool dropout who just managed the land their first job at a chain restaurant known as The Beef House. The place feels off to begin with, but as they get to know their coworkers and their boss, things become progressively more terrifying, and deadly.

The reading would be posted on YouTube, preferably with artistic visuals to accompany.

This is a horror project, and includes dark subject matters such as mentions of animal cruelty, off-screen animal death, violence, and gore. This project is 16+ (because I am 17) but if you are not comfortable with that I advise you not to audition.

You must have a decent quality mic, especially to be cast as Echo, cause we'll be hearing your voice a lot.

This project is VERY LGBTQ+ focused. A majority of the characters are in some way queer, and it is relevant and mentioned multiple times, ESPECIALLY Echo. If you are not comfortable with that, don't audition. I myself am trans and queer, and I'm not comfortable with you being uncomfortable with my existence, so just don't.

I am willing to cast actors/actresses that don't match their characters identities for everyone EXCEPT Echo. Whoever is cast as Echo must be in some way transmasc or non-binary. Otherwise you will not be considered for the role.

My YouTube channel is incredibly small, and therefore not monetized. If I am somehow able to monetize this video, everyone will receive an even cut of the profit (except Echo, who will receive more). But don't hold out hopes for this, its very unlikely.

The story is currently still being written. I'm over half-way through. Voice acting auditions will close as soon as writing is done. Artist auditions may stay open for a little longer, depending on how I feel really.

Thank you for considering this project and have fun!

Latest Updates

  • To be seen

So, to be honest at this point I don't know if the story will be finished. I haven't made much progress, but I just got sick, and then I started writing something else. To be honest this happens to me a lot haha. And even if/when I do finish the story the reading doesn't seem feasible with the auditions I've received. Which is fine, I just thought it would really help bring the story to life. The point of this update is that everything related to this project remains to be seen and is up in the air. I promise I'll update no matter what happens. It just really depends on whether or not I can get the motivation to finish the story back.

  • Deadline extension

I’ve decided to extend the deadline because I’ve temporarily lost motivation to write. I just have some other stuff I need to do and I’m not feeling the inspiration to finish the story at the moment. I’m also not getting that many auditions, so I may not even end up making the video if I don’t receive enough to fill all the roles, but we’ll see what happens I suppose. I also might finish the story before the deadline, but it’ll really depend. Right now don’t rely too much on the deadline, it may change to be longer or shorter.

They/them

Echo is the protagonist AND narrator of this story. They will have the most amount of lines, as the story is from their perspective, and they tend to go on long drawn out paragraphs about the situation. You have to be willing and able to narrate to play this role. This is also the only role where matching the character's identity is required to be considered. This is a very important part of the character that is brought up multiple times. As for the character themself, Echo is often introverted and tired, but more than willing to act sassy when called for. They're highly emotional, they used to be more so in their childhood, which results in paranoia and fear. Though they mostly try to remain quiet in social situations.

  • My freshman year of Highschool, I was insistently vegan. Like, to the point of being really annoying. I watched a Netflix documentary about the mistreatment of pigs on those massive industrialist farms, stuck in tiny little cages with barely enough room to sit down. It sent me into some sort of frenzy, I was crying for almost a week. My mom couldn’t get me to stop. Every time we ate- if there was something I so much as thought was meat on my plate- I’d just start sobbing uncontrollably, no matter how much my mom reassured me it wasn’t.

She/her

Molly is a waiter/cashier working at The Beef House. She's the first co-worker that Echo meets. At first she's rude and over-dramatic, but pretty quickly reveals herself to be bubbly, light-hearted, and well-meaning, even if she's not the brightest. She's very much a valley-girl teen type. Though she usually has an upbeat attitude, she's also very emotional, and wears her heart on her sleeve.

  • (To Echo, oblivious) Good cause I’m sick of this current staff, It’ll be good to have some fresh meat.

  • (To Echo, trying to be supportive) Some of them have pronouns! You look like someone with pronouns.

  • (To Echo, explaining) We have a fairly limited menu, right? But our most customizable item is the meat lovers special. The customer gets to choose any type of meat they want, with any amount they want.

He/him

Kay is the chef at The Beef House. He's intelligent and would largely be considered a "nerd", but he's also a trouble-maker with intent to "stick it to the man". He doesn't care much for authority and isn't afraid to speak his mind, which can get him into trouble. He'll do anything to help his sister, Kat. They've been by each others sides their whole lives and don't intend on leaving until they're separated by force.

  • (To Echo, angry ranting) They changed the stupid recipe again! It’s the fifth time in the past two months. Five times! And they don’t let you use the patties made from the old recipe, no, that’d be too simple! Just gotta waste all this perfectly good meat! That’s what the manager wants!

  • (To The Manager, angry) Yeah, right. You’re such a creep, I’m starting to think YOU did it! I’m sick of this. I’m sick of this stupid job! I’m sick of being underpaid, mistreated, and then blamed!

She/her

Kat handles the meat prep at The Beef House. She's not very open or emotional, she prefers to put on a tough and sarcastic persona. She's not monotone, but she doesn't show a lot of emotion in her voice most of the time. She puts on a brave face when everyone else is unable to. She's sworn to protect her brother, Kay, by any means necessary.

Masculine voice preferred.

The Manager is a mysterious figure that is rarely seen around the establishment. He is sort of uncanny and unnerving, but speaks in an upbeat tone with stereotypical boss lingo. None of the employees are comfortable around him, but he doesn't seem to realize. He is constantly smiling. He never raises or voice and he barely reacts to his surroundings. He's focused on his job and his employees above all else.

  • (To Echo, upbeat but robotic) How have you been enjoying your time as an employee at The Beef House?

  • (To all, as if telling a hilarious joke) Dog meat! *laughs* Perhaps I should add it to the menu!

  • (To all, serious but still positive) I understand that yesterday's incident was difficult for you all, But I'm hoping to handle things cordially and professionally. So I recommend— if it was any of you who committed this act- I suggest you step up now.

I am hoping to find a few artists to help me create visuals for the reading! I myself am an artist, so don't worry about not receiving proper direction or character design. You must be willing and able to depict violence and gore for this project, as it is a horror project with a lot of dark themes. Please submit a link to your portfolio or a Google drive of your work.
