Libromendel: A Modern Day Audio Drama Retelling of Stefan Zweig
Project Overview
Dear Amazing Talent of CCC!
The award-winning producers of THE GRAY AREA are now in production on a standalone audio drama production called LIBROMENDEL, a quirky but good faith adaptation of Stefan Zweig’s famous short story, “Buchmendel.” The script, like the Zweig tale, involves an eccentric bookseller who is wrongfully imprisoned and sent to a concentration camp. But in our version, we have transplanted the World War I setting to the near future. Mendel, in our version, is Jaime Abrego Mendel.
The script features twenty-five speaking roles, with the first half entailing a comedic Altmaneseque celebration of life showing why Mendel is such a vital part of Café Gluck and the second half dealing with Mendel’s fate at the hands of ICE.
We're looking to populate Café Gluck with a number of fun and quirky background actors. These are basically walk-on roles that entail anywhere from two to five lines. We are expressly anti-AI and very pro-human. Your work will ONLY be used for this production. In fact, we have a non-AI clause explicitly written into the actor agreement. You must have a reasonably high quality mic, with the audio recorded in 24/192. All lines will be recorded remotely and sent to the producer via WeTransfer.
We operate a creative environment in which all members of the cast and crew are equal and all ideas and interpretations are welcome! We strongly encourage outliers, goofballs, weirdos, or other people who are often misunderstood by mainstream casting agents to apply. Our productions tend to cast exceptionally original and quirky actors. So don’t be afraid to try something wild! But it does have to be real and true to life.
To apply, please send along an MP3 file of you reading the lines below. If you aren’t cast during this round, don’t worry. We will definitely keep you in mind for future productions later in the year (namely the third season of THE GRAY AREA).
