Library of Ruina: The Fandub (Round 5 - Urban Plague)

Project Overview

Hi there! Welcome to auditions for Library of Ruina, a fan dub project for the sequel to Lobotomy Corporation by Project Moon!

Warning: This game contains body horror, murder, and mentions of suicide and substance abuse! Though few things are explicitly shown on screen due to the game's rating, discretion is advised if these are sensitive topics!

Library of Ruina directly follows the events of Lobotomy Corporation. It follows a washed-up Fixer named Roland, who finds himself in the Library, a magical place led by the AI Angela. Angela recruits Roland as her servant to teach her about the outside world, as she is trapped in the Library and can only leave if she becomes human. To that end, she invites guests to do receptions for the Library - if they win in combat, they will get whatever books they please, but if they lose, they will be turned into books themselves. As the Library grows more notorious and more powerful people start visiting it, a plot is slowly unveiled that could change the entire City - and the Library is at the heart of it...

Submission Guidelines - Any submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be DISQUALIFIED!

  1. Submissions will only be accepted through Casting Call Club!

  2. Include your Discord in your audition description. Including it in your profile is not enough; you must specifically include it in the audition.

  3. Do not include a voice filter unless otherwise specified!

  4. This is an English dub; all characters will default to a North American accent unless otherwise specified! You won't necessarily be disqualified for other accents but do note it will very much hurt your chances if it's unfitting for the character.

  5. Absolutely no use of AI will be tolerated for submissions - by that extension, you have my word no AI tools will be used in this project!

In addition, I would prefer if you only record one take for each line, but I won't disqualify you on the spot for it! It would be appreciated if you could cut out any silence too, but that is not required.

That's all! Thank you for auditioning in advance; I look forward to hearing everyone's voices!

  • Library of Ruina: The Fandub Round 4 - 2 Week Notice

Hello, fellow librarians! Two weeks on the deadline, with a ton of amazing auditions and talent both new and returning! I'm super excited to see what you all bring to the table!

I do wanna note, be sure you're including your Discord in your audition! There are a ton of great auditions that I can't cast in good conscience because that was one of the rules - if you don't read that rule, then how I can I be sure you're gonna read our project guidelines? X;3 (Obviously, returning people are exempt from this rule since they've already been cast and are already in the Discord, haha!)

That's all I've got! Looking forward to seeing more of you guys - may you find your book in this place!

Thelma

Thelma is the manager of the Shi Association's southern branch. He's a corrupt individual who abuses his position for his own benefit, though when push comes to shove he's actually quite cowardly and only held his position because of Argalia. In exchange, Argalia gives him a list of tasks to complete - which he hurriedly shoves onto Shi Association Section 2. Section 2 dies in the Library, thus leaving Thelma unable to complete his tasks - and leading Argalia to kill him.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice - kind of a "corrupt businessman" vibe? Thelma is never shown on screen, so he doesn't really have a solid appearance or anything - I'm pretty flexible as to what I'm looking for here so long as it suits the character. One of his scenes has him getting tortured and eventually killed, so being able to portray that is important!

Voice description:

  • [Responding to Argalia asking him for returning his "favor".] "I know, that was the deal. What do you want this time? ... These are all ridiculous requests. Though... we have the right team for this."

  • [Being tortured by Argalia.] "Gasp... Huff, huff... Blue Reverb... you crazy son of a bitch... Don't be ridiculous... You're the one who gave me an impossible task in the first place...!"

  • [Trying to plead for his life after he realizes his connections won't save him from Argalia's wrath. Still being tortured.] "... I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, sir! It's all my fault... I swear... I swear! That I’ll never! Try to pull any cheap schemes! And I’ll never break promises with you ever again...!"

The Carnival

(Multiple people will be cast for this role!)

The Carnival is a trio of strange bug-like individuals who are very likely not human, named Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. They serve as tailors, using the people they've killed to make quality clothes. They speak in short, fragmented sentences and might be part of a hive mind (a lot of their nature is left ambiguous). They're sent to the Library under the order of an Index Prescript and swiftly disposed of.

For this role, I'm looking for pretty much any kind of voice. Male, female, high pitched, low pitched, childish, adult-like, it doesn't matter - being able to deliver their strange way of talking in a creepy, convincing way is a must. You may use a filter for your audition if you choose, but it's not required.

  • [Observing the Index Prescript they were given.] "Head to Library? Have other paper with you? This is no Prescript. Prescript come first for us? If we break order, Prescript will not forgive? Perhaps Library have new ingredient to make new silk with?"

  • [Wanting to eat Angela.] "Greetings. Okay to eat. Could produce wonderful silk? Will make pretty, blue silk? Seems she would taste even worse than Sweepers? True? Does not seem human. Want to eat something tasty now? Tired of disgusting food."

Yan is a Messenger of the Index, a faction that obeys mysterious rules called Prescripts. Yan is one of the nicer members, bound to his duties but being willing to help citizens interpret Prescripts or even forge them. However, the Index knew all along his Prescripts were forged and eventually sends him to discover the truth behind the Prescripts - a truth so horrible it leads him to lose his mind, sent to the Library as a distorted monster shortly afterwards and meeting his end.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that can stay kind of gentle but not shy, quiet yet firm. Yan is a pretty unassuming individual with a lot of inner strength, though even that's not enough once he discovers how Prescripts are made - and has a total despondent emotional breakdown. I've included a line from his breakdown as the third line here to see how you portray that!

Voice description:

  • [Giving out a Prescript to a resident.] "Hello, Miss Lala... here's your Prescript. Yes, you need to put three needles in her birthday cake... but you never know, she might luckily notice the needles before she eats them. Or you could tell her in advance there are needles in her cake. The Prescript didn't say anything about it, so it should be alright..."

  • [Trying, and failing, to warn a resident about the Prescripts.] "... Yes. The Index will provide protection for you. All you need to do is carry out each Prescript accordingly. Will you please reconsider? Nothing is truly free in this City... but you'll be safe as long as you follow the Prescripts. Maybe..."

  • [Breaking down after being shown the truth of the Prescripts.] "... Haha... yeah... right... it wasn't my fault. People weren’t doing inhumane things because I delivered Prescripts to them... Those horrible things were meant to happen anyway. I’m just a tiny part of the world, I can never change the wishes of all people... There’s no way I can defy this flow..."

Sayo is a Captain of the Kurokumo Clan, a notorious Syndicate. She and her compatriots are forced by L'heure de Loup (or Tanya, for short) to enter the Library as what is all but stated to be a form of execution. Sayo is cocky and smug, with an above-it all attitude, but tends to crumble into pettiness and insults in the face of adversity.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice able to capture Sayo's cool, smug energy but also be capable of showing deference (as one of her major scenes has Tanya bossing her around). The kind of gal who will trashtalk you but doesn't take too well to being trashtalked herself.

Now then, why don’t we go our own ways if we’re done with all business here? The Carnival can visit the Library, we can take our fabric, and mister messenger... probably has places to be."

  • [Trashtalking Tanya.] "She has the head of a dog? A dog in black coat? Are those kinds of surgeries hip with the kids these days? Oh? So she’s a wolf, not a dog? Still appears to be a little bitch to me. Let us teach that pup a lesson."

  • [Angrily complaining about Tanya after entering the Library.] "Where the hell did that bitchhead come from?! How dare an impudent whelp like her bite at us superior beings! (taking a deep breath to calm down) ... Hmph... yes, let's report this to the Thumb after we take care of this."

He's polite yet pretty ruthless in his methods, and a little more serious and level-headed than his two cohorts.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice able to stay somewhat composed and level, but also not above insults towards others. Not a super complex character - as long as your voice is on the deeper end and you can read his lines pretty seriously, you're probably fit for this role!

  • [Explaining a turf war situation to Sayo.] "The current situation with L Corp's Nest... it's fierce. This is the first time in a long while the Thumb and the Index got in a turf war over an area. Everyone must be thinking this is the promised estate or something."

  • [Explaining how protection fees work.] "A fallen Nest no longer has an owner to protect its inhabitants. What happens to them, then? • [Talking about the City's rich parts.] "Pretty much everything going on in the City can be described as ‘savage’, but the other parts of the City at least put up the effort to package them in gentlemanly guises. The City Residents are a pair of rich elderly people - one male, one female - who the Kurokumo Clan are meeting up with in their intro scene. As they were unable to pay fees, the Clan takes some of their body parts and chides them before leaving.

For this role, I'm just looking for a pair of elderly voices; nothing super specific here. Being able to act fearful is a must! Since these characters get injured in their scene, you'll have to accurately portray pain as well!

The Kurokumo Clan members are lower ranking members of the clan who go into battle against the Library... though a lot of their screentime is also being beaten black and blue by Tanya despite them outnumbering her.

For this role, I'm looking for any kind of voices - some of you might be cast to say things in the Tanya scene, others of you might be cast to do battle against the Librarians, and some might be doing both! Either way, since you're going to be either getting killed by Tanya or the Librarians in your scene, you'll have to portray being beaten and exhausted/dying very well!

  • [Preparing to fight.] "Start a fight against us... You’re pretty gutsy, I’ll give you that. We’ll be moving first. Be prepared, everyone."

  • [Barely within an inch of their life, after Tanya beat them up.] "Shut your yap already... run, dame..."

Church of Gears Worshippers
open

(Multiple people will be cast for this role!)

The Church of Gears is an organization built around a philosophy of nihilism, believing that everyone is a "gear" meant to fill only one specific purpose in the City so the whole thing can run. One member is a new one expressing doubts who gets turned into a Thought Gear right away, but the others are devoted zealots who believe firmly in their purpose... or lack of one, arguably. They first appear going up against Full-Stop Office, and in the future parts of the game some accompany their leaders into the Library, serving as supporting combatants.

For this role, I'm looking for any variety of voices - one person will be cast as a worshipper having doubts about the whole thing, and for that role I'm looking for someone who can be depressed and later on kinda fearful. For the majority of members, though, I'm looking for people able to praise their leader with mindless zealotry/faith, like a cult! I've included four lines for these folks - two for the single worshipper and two for the zealots! You can read all four if you're fine with being cast as either role, but if you prefer one or the other, you can just read their two lines!

  • [Nervous Member - moping about their routine.] "Everything is so dreary. And so is my life. I wake up at 6 in the morning, go to work by 8, and do the same work with the same face every single day. By the time I leave work, it’s already 10 in the evening... I’m not sure what I’m doing anymore." [Nervous Member - realizing they're about to be turned into a gear.] "A thought gear...? That means those gears on the back of your head are...? W-Wait, am I really gonna turn into a gear?! Wait! Wait! I didn't know this would happen!"

  • [Faithful Member - chanting religiously.] "As the gears turn, so too does life fulfill its cycle. Praise be to our leader!" [Faithful Member - falling in battle.] "Why... can't I hear the sound...? Why is it so dim... I'm not sure what I should do anymore... please brighten the path ahead..."

Liwei is a member of the Full-Stop Office, a Fixer office known for their use of firearms. The three are confronted by the Blue Reverberation during a mission and are forced to use their Library invitation for a slim chance at escaping his wrath, though it ends about as well as you'd expect for them. Liwei serves as the Office's tactician, and has an assertive personality, also primarily serving as the group's face when they need to talk.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium voice with a commanding presence; someone able to give orders to his teammates and be firm. Think the kinda guy who's usually talking on radio, advising his two more gun-inclined teammates when to take the shot. Even under pressure, he's able to stay somewhat composed - though for the last line I'd like you to be able to reflect some fear at facing one of the most dangerous and unhinged people in the City!

Stephan is the youngest member and is about as brash as you'd expect, but also with a very pessimistic attitude, being quick to complain and also despair when things look hopeless.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that's able to switch between kinda fiery/complain-y to depressed pretty quickly. Stephan provides a little bit of comedy in an otherwise serious scene so don't be afraid to be a little bit silly with the last line!

Voice description:

  • [Complaining about the Church of Gears Leader dodging their bullets.] "Gah, why is their slippery leader so hard to hit?! This sucks! We paid an arm and a leg for those bullets! If we screw this job up, we’re gonna be bankrupt from all the bullets we’ve wasted!"

Meow acts in a very cutesy and adorable manner, but it's very clear she's unhinged by how into it she gets with her music.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice able to sound unhinged and cute - Harley Quinn is probably the most modern comparison. By that extension, you may use a fitting accent for her, but it's not required. Salvador is a laid-back and witty old man with a wise demeanor and a sense of humor.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice on the elderly side - pretty much a standard voice for any chill mentor character. For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice that can capture someone who's used to being the only sane woman in her Office. Yuna is a pretty capable individual who also tends to have moments of exasperation. She's also aware of Phillip's crush on her and can be a little awkward around him cause she doesn't really reciprocate, even though she's friendly and professional with him. Oscar is the Operator of Wedge Office. After Dawn Office gets booked by the Library, Phillip runs to them for comfort and assistance, and though they're harsh with him they let him accompany them to the Library... and it ends pretty much as badly as the first time. Though Phillip manifests a strange power that lets him have one final stand, Oscar snuck a teleportation device onto him that ejects him from the fight safely. Oscar is gruff and serious - while he can be blunt and a bit of a jerk, he has a softer side deep down, even if he's a little misguided.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice able to stay gruff. You may use an accent (maybe some form of English?) for this role if you so choose, but it's not required. Oscar's screentime has him primarily looking out for Phillip, but he's serious and harsh with him, so being able to have that come through is important!

  • [Warning Phillip to not delude himself.] "You must be sincerely believing that your actions are for others. That you are different from all the other unkind and selfish denizens of this City. But know that those are in fact entirely selfish thoughts. A very dangerous kind of selfishness, one that slowly eats away at your peers and leads them to damnation..."

  • [Musing on a group he's seen around the City.] "That group reportedly appears every time a case of the Distortion is solved. They’re allegedly working as "The Distortion Detective", but recent witnesses of their appearance were always followed with a Distortion case in the same location. While it’s unclear whether they’re involved in this case… I believe there’s enough reason to be wary of them."

Pamela and Pameli

Pamela and Pameli are two of the Fixers of Wedge Office. After Dawn Office gets booked by the Library, Phillip runs to them for comfort and assistance, and though they're harsh with him they let him accompany them to the Library... and it ends pretty much as badly as the first time. Despite their appearances, they have separate personalities - Pamela gave Pameli a cloned body to use to save her life, which is why they look identical. Pameli is harsh and blunt with Phillip; Pamela is more willing to give Phillip comfort than Pameli, though she still doesn't mince words and bickers with Pameli.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that can subtly differentiate between Pamela and Pameli (I'm casting the same person for both of these roles since they're literally using the same body). I've marked the lines below with who's saying them, including two for each person - give it your best!

  • [Pameli - chiding Phillip.] "Do you think it's your fault that your colleagues died? Then it is your fault. You were too daft and weak to keep the others safe. When something happens, all you gotta do is make up reasons that are convenient to you, no? It’s not like you actually care about the cause; you just want to believe whatever that convinces you." [Pameli - chiding Phillip some more.] "Gosh, you’re insufferable. He didn’t even say that you’re wrong or anything. He just doesn’t want those kinds of Fixers in our Office, simple as that. Don’t be a miserable ass about it. Nothing is as unreliable as someone who’s easily swayed by their feelings."

  • [Pamela - explaining why she and Pameli look alike.] "Pameli’s body was torn apart beyond recovery, so this was the only way we had left for her. Her head was thankfully intact. I thought Fixer insurances were a complete robbery, but it did help us out for once. Speaking of, doesn’t your Office have any insurance?" [Pamela - bickering with Pameli.] "What? I urgently had body cloning surgery to save you, and this is how you thank me? You know what, why don’t you just die a permanent death this time? That way you can’t be recovered by any means. You won’t have to pay me for the cloned body then."

Alloc

Alloc is the operator of Gaze Office, an office specializing in investigations and intelligence. All of their members are fully prosthetic and have robotic appearances. After taking a job from a bigger office, the job goes awry when they lose track of who they're supposed to be tailing and they're forced to enter the Library to try to come back with something valuable. Alloc is the leader of the group; he's professional and understands the value of money in the City even though he's not necessarily greedy.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice able to stay professional. You may use a robotic filter for your audition if you choose, but it's not required. Alloc is a pretty good leader to his teammates and generally keeps a level head, so being able to stay composed even in the face of danger is important to this role!

  • [Reassuring his allies that the job will be worth the pay.] "How many times should I say that we can get two hundred million right away through an untraceable route? I understand that you’re scared because R Corp. has W Corp’s back. But we aren’t gonna quit here, are we?"

  • [Checking out the Library invitation they just received.] "It could have something to do with this. This thing has the books of the Molar Office listed on it like it knows what we were doing. We might be able to see what happened on the train if we read their books. If the Library and its books are just as mysterious as the Singularities, then hopefully they’re worth just as much."

  • [Explaining the process of working with Cane Office.] "When you work with Cane Office, the process you have to follow will usually be simple outside of a few special cases. All you need to do is make a summary of all the details for the deal you’re making and visit the Office. And don’t forget to take all the relevant documents with you."

Dalloc is a Fixer of Gaze Office, an office specializing in investigations and intelligence. All of their members are fully prosthetic and have robotic appearances. After taking a job from a bigger office, the job goes awry when they lose track of who they're supposed to be tailing and they're forced to enter the Library to try to come back with something valuable. Despite her cute and small appearance, Dalloc is surprisingly level-headed and calm, being the most analytical and strategic of Gaze Office's trio.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice able to sound intelligent and tactical. You may use a robotic filter for your audition if you choose, but it's not required. Dalloc is the least vocal of Gaze Office, but when she does speak she's generally pretty blunt and to the point!

  • [Confirming their mission.] "Confirmed the Molar Office boarding the train. I made sure to attach the observation device on them. It’s the device Cane Office gave us. They said it’s invaluable with only a few copies of it in the City. They offered the deal, and they're a pretty notable Office, so... we can probably trust this."

  • [Confused as their tracking device loses signal.] "They're missing... we can't observe them anymore. Don’t put the blame on the device, it’s not broken. It’s still working, see? Something must’ve happened inside the train... Ugh. Stop whining, will you?"

  • [Explaining how the City works.] ""Cooperation" is just a fancy expression for “taking advantage of the Backstreets when the Wing needs them”. If you can’t afford to enter a Wing and have to live in the Backstreets, you’re best off settling in the District that suits you well. You’ll still need a home and source of income, of course."

Bono is a Fixer of Gaze Office, an office specializing in investigations and intelligence. All of their members are fully prosthetic and have robotic appearances. After taking a job from a bigger office, the job goes awry when they lose track of who they're supposed to be tailing and they're forced to enter the Library to try to come back with something valuable. Bono is the most worrisome member of Gaze Office, to the point where he's a bit of a paranoiac and expresses doubts about their job from the start.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice able to express paranoia but not sound too jumpy. You may use a robotic filter for your audition if you choose, but it's not required. I imagine Bono to be a very aggressive sort - not shouty, but still has kind of that presence to his voice where you can tell he's on edge 24/7. (A good comparison I thought of is Shocker from Insomniac's Spider-Man!)

  • [Expressing concerns over the validity of their job.] "I know it’s a bit late to ask this, but you sure this job is a trusty one? I don’t trust like that. Pay isn’t the problem here. If we get caught trying to uncover the secrets of a Singularity, we’re done for. No insurance is gonna protect us."

  • [Extremely worried after their tracking device loses signal.] "I knew there was something off with this device. I told you it can’t be possible for any technology to be this convenient! It could be W Corp. sending a jamming signal to prevent its Singularity from being leaked. This is driving me crazy... We’re doing this sham job for two hundred million?!"

  • [Explaining the dangers of tax evasion.] "Anyone living in the City has to pay taxes. If you don’t meet the deadline, you’ll get a warning. For the first three offenses, you’ll get a notice of warning and no other penalty. But if you don’t pay your taxes for the fourth time? Then you’re dead meat. They’ll come for you."
