Library of Ruina: The Fandub (Round 2 - Canard)

Library of Ruina: The Fandub (Round 2 - Canard)

Project Overview

Hi there! Welcome to auditions for Library of Ruina, a fan dub project for the sequel to Lobotomy Corporation by Project Moon!

Warning: This game contains body horror, murder, and mentions of suicide and substance abuse! Though few things are explicitly shown on screen due to the game's rating, discretion is advised if these are sensitive topics!

Library of Ruina directly follows the events of Lobotomy Corporation. It follows a washed-up Fixer named Roland, who finds himself in the Library, a magical place led by the AI Angela. Angela recruits Roland as her servant to teach her about the outside world, as she is trapped in the Library and can only leave if she becomes human. To that end, she invites guests to do receptions for the Library - if they win in combat, they will get whatever books they please, but if they lose, they will be turned into books themselves. As the Library grows more notorious and more powerful people start visiting it, a plot is slowly unveiled that could change the entire City - and the Library is at the heart of it...

Submission Guidelines - Any submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be DISQUALIFIED!

  1. Submissions will only be accepted through Casting Call Club!

  2. Include your Discord in your audition description. Including it in your profile is not enough; you must specifically include it in the audition.

  3. Do not include a voice filter unless otherwise specified!

  4. This is an English dub; all characters will default to a North American accent unless otherwise specified! You won't necessarily be disqualified for other accents but do note it will very much hurt your chances if it's unfitting for the character.

  5. Absolutely no use of AI will be tolerated for submissions - by that extension, you have my word no AI tools will be used in this project!

In addition, I would prefer if you only record one take for each line, but I won't disqualify you on the spot for it! It would be appreciated if you could cut out any silence too, but that is not required.

That's all! Thank you for auditioning in advance; I look forward to hearing everyone's voices!

Pete is a Rat, AKA a street-level thug who pilfers the guts from corpses to sell and try to make a profit out of. He and his allies are the first to visit the Library, only to discover they're in way over their heads. He has ambitions to become one of the Fingers, though unfortunately such dreams get crushed pretty quickly by the Library.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice. Pete's not really a complex character - gruff, foul-mouthed, and pretty much what you'd expect from a thug.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Panicking about someone interrupting their organ harvesting.] "Hey! Hurry up and scrape them up, now! Those goons might arrive any second! Damn it! Their footsteps are getting closer. Forget about clean cuts, just pull 'em out and take 'em!"

  • [Confidently explaining his dream.] "You know my dream, right? To become one of the Fingers of the Backstreets. This could be our chance to join an Urban Legend-class Syndicate... Alright, time to check out the harvest."

  • [Questioning Angela at the Library.] "You the owner of this place? We're allowed to take whatever we want here, right? Beggars can't be choosers. We gotta cling onto anything we can find."

Lenny is a Rat, AKA a street-level thug who pilfers the guts from corpses to sell and try to make a profit out of. She and her allies are the first to visit the Library, only to discover they're in way over their heads. She's the most level-headed of the three, generally staying reasonable.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice; a pretty average girl with maybe a bit of a tough side due to being a street thug. Nothing super special either way, though.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • [Trying to harvest guts before someone catches them.] "I'm doing my best here! I just can't seem to get a clean rip of his guts, the contents of this guy are weirdly different. I've never even heard of a body modification procedure that does this..."

  • [Resignedly telling Pete their latest job was a failure.] "I told you. This guy doesn't have a single proper organ inside him. Besides that... he also had this envelope in his body."

  • [Worried about not being able to make enough money.] "It was a flop after all... the payment is due tomorrow. We've got 7 hours, to be exact. That's too little time for another run of gut-harvesting..."

Mang-chi is a Rat, AKA a street-level thug who pilfers the guts from corpses to sell and try to make a profit out of. He and his allies are the first to visit the Library, only to discover they're in way over their heads. He's a very soft-spoken and nervous sort, and easily the most timid in his group.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium voice. Pretty much exactly as described above - soft-spoken and nervous.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • [Responding to Pete explaining his dream.] "I'll admit, it's rare to see someone with a dream these days. Let's sell off these guts we've hauled first. We gotta prepare enough cash to offer to the Stray Dogs."

  • [Worried about their latest haul not having proper organs.] "... What if it's one of those? Y'know, rumors say there's a guy who skewers and threads people alive to turn them into dolls..."

  • [Finding the Library invitation inside their victim's body.] "Books? We can get books from the library? What a bunch of nonsense... isn't this just suicide? We don't know what kinda place it might be."

(Extra Role - Multiple people will be cast for this!)

These are a group of Fixers from Yun's Office. Two of them are shown on-screen - one male, one female. They're small-time mercenaries looking for something bigger in their lives. Unfortunately, they're way in over their head for the work they have to do.

For this role, I'm looking for medium voices; nothing super special here. These people are tired of their mundane work and want something more in life... and unfortunately, they get it. Only one line is provided for each Fixer due to their limited screentime.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • female young adult
  • [Male - Just finished a crappy request.] "Foiled again. I didn't go through all the trouble of becoming a Fixer to do mundane chores like this. You probably had bigger things in mind when you became a Fixer..."

  • [Female - Similarly annoyed at the quality of their requests.] "I envy your optimism, Finn. But a request like 'Please find my lost cat before night falls' is seriously not it. Garbage Offices get garbage requests."

Role assigned to: Laston

Finn is the first named Fixer to visit the Library. He's a somewhat optimistic rookie who would probably be a good protagonist in any other game... but this is Library of Ruina. While he's more competent than the Fixers that came before him, he's still only a Grade 9, and becomes the first notable victim of the Library that really puts them on the map.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that can sound... not completely like an anime protagonist, but like someone who's generally a pretty normal person and hopes for better things in life.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • [Trying to reassure his Fixer colleagues over the quality of their missions.] "But still, we might see the light one day if we start out with smaller tasks, don't you think? I'm sure I can move to a nicer Office or become an Associate Fixer someday if I keep working hard."

  • [Reporting back to Yun after his colleagues enter the Library.] "Sir, they still haven't responded back to us. Something must have happened in that 'Library'."

  • [Politely introducing himself to Angela.] "Hello. I'm Finn, a Fixer at Yun's Office. Is it true that I can find 'books' containing a lot of information in this place?"

Role assigned to: Metality

Yun is the head of, well, Yun's Office. While he has a soft side, he's overall a cold-hearted and cynical man who is mostly driven by his greed. After his Office starts getting in massive debt, he's forced to visit the Library himself, and that ends about as well as you'd expect.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice that should sound pretty gruff and not really like the nicest guy. Still capable of empathy here and there, but overall someone you probably wouldn't want to work for.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Dismissing the disappearances of his Fixers.] "Plenty of Fixers disappear without a trace. Whether they died or ran off, further lack of response means a violation of contract, and they're facing expulsion from my Office."

  • [Sarcastically chiding Finn for talking about his "instincts".] "Oh, really? How tragic that such good instincts of a Grade 9 Fixer are wasted on our humble Office."

  • [Discussing Finn's demise to his colleague Eri.] "He was just mediocre. He should have gotten a decent modification surgery, or had enough talent to make up for his lack of experience. But he didn't have any of that. He was nothing more than an overconfident brat."

Eri is a Grade 8 Fixer who works at Yun's Office. She's generally cheerful and confident in her skills, despite her low rank; she tends to put others down when she perceives herself as above them. She enters the Library to fight with Yun and is quickly dispatched.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that's generally upbeat and smug. Pretty straightforward.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • [Discussing Finn's death.] "Too bad. I kinda liked his affable and cutesy attitude. Though I agree, he was bound to die sooner or later."

  • [Warning Yun she'll ditch his Office after getting promoted to Grade 8.] "You'd better be careful! If you don't pay me enough, I might move to another Office. Heard that you're barely covering your own taxes these days, let alone the monthly rent for this Office space. Am I wrong?"

  • [Bragging about her modifications.] "Just look at me, though! It took a teensy little procedure for me to lift this humongous weapon with one hand. This is the kind of power you can get, you see?"

Role assigned to: Mimi

Mo is a member of the Brotherhood of Iron, a Syndicate that committed to having their entire bodies modified to be robotic... albeit with low-quality parts that lead to issues. They enter the Library together to get some books that they can sell for money, and end up as yet another addition to its shelves. Mo is the most focused member of the group, coming off as the "leader", in a sense. They're primarily concerned with profits and keeping everyone on track.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that can pull off the distinct stutter the Brotherhood of Iron has in their dialogue. (Tip: They only stutter on the first word of each sentence.) You may use a voice filter for your audition, but it's not required. As Mo's Korean voice is pretty ambiguous in gender and they're never referred to with any specific pronouns, I'm accepting any gender for this role!

Voice description:
  • nonbinary
  • androgynous
  • [Chiding their fellow teammates.] "Y-you guys should regularly refill your head with brain fluid. A-a dry brain dulls your thoughts. T-these bodies just need brain fluid, fuel, and some repairs from time to time."

  • [Responding to Consta lamenting their lacking ability to taste.] "T-that's because we got cheap bodies from a cheap workshop. W-we just have to earn more. T-then we can replace our bodies with better ones."

  • [Trying to get their group focused.] "W-we can worry about that later. L-let's focus on money-making now. I-it's all about money in the end. S-so don't bring up restaurants. Y-you're making me want to eat stuff, too."

Arnold is a member of the Brotherhood of Iron, a Syndicate that committed to having their entire bodies modified to be robotic... albeit with low-quality parts that lead to issues. They enter the Library together  to get some books that they can sell for money, and end up as yet another addition to its shelves. Arnold is a quiet and careful member of the Brotherhood, typically acting as someone who keeps in mind what threats the group can and cannot take on.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice that can pull off the distinct stutter the Brotherhood of Iron has in their dialogue. (Tip: They only stutter on the first word of each sentence.) You may use a voice filter for your audition, but it's not required. Worth noting Arnold is the only member of the Brotherhood of Iron that appears to be explicitly male, given his name and Korean voice.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Offering his input on where they should raid next.] "I-I think we should go for a workshop. W-workshops are rich, and they have useful components, too. I-I don't think we'll get anything valuable from the Offices we can take on right now."

  • [Musing on the bodies they could upgrade to.] "T-the most expensive ones can even adjust emotions and completely shut off desires, on top of having good performance... B-but those are almost as expensive as a Nest household."

  • [Expressing worries after entering the Library.] "W-we came here for loot, but what if that piece of paper was all a lie? M-maybe we were too naive. M-must be one of those ploys by rich folks. I-it's all entertainment to them."

Consta is a member of the Brotherhood of Iron, a Syndicate that committed to having their entire bodies modified to be robotic... albeit with low-quality parts that lead to issues. They enter the Library together to get some books that they can sell for money, and end up as yet another addition to its shelves. Consta is the most scatterbrained of the Brotherhood, often craving food... despite their taste and hunger being gone with their mechanical body.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that can pull off the distinct stutter the Brotherhood of Iron has in their dialogue. (Tip: They only stutter on the first word of each sentence.) You may use a voice filter for your audition, but it's not required. As Consta's Korean voice is pretty ambiguous in gender and they're never referred to with any specific pronouns, I'm accepting any gender for this role!

Voice description:
  • androgynous
  • nonbinary
  • [Suggesting places for the Brotherhood to raid.] "H-how about an Office? W-we should earn some infamy if we take down an Office or two. N-no? A-a restaurant, then! I-I like delicious stuff."

  • [Complaining about their lost senses.] "I-it cost a fortune to get ourselves whole-body replacements. B-but it's still uncomfortable. I-I know I don't have to eat anymore, but I keep thinking about all the tasty things I had before, and it makes me want to taste them again."

  • [Expressing worries after entering the Library.] "I-I heard of that, t-they kidnap people from the Backstreets, trap them in a labyrinth no one can escape, and make them wander in there, fighting for eternity... U-until they die, never to see light again..."

McCullin is a Hook Office Fixer, a gruesome Office that tops off the Canard section of Library of Ruina. The Hook Office pays a visit to the Library and even tries to harm Angela (to no success), but end up booked like the rest of the guests. McCullin is a pretty calm and casual individual, and is about as brutish as his imposing appearance suggests.

For this role, I'm looking for a low-medium voice that sounds tough and pretty composed. Nothing too special here; he has pretty much the voice you'd expect from looking at him.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • [Reassuring his colleagues.] "Remember what the boss said. There are so many Offices and Fixers these days, so standing out from the others is the best way to survive in this industry. Our outfits are also quite radical compared to what other Offices have."

  • [Musing on the status of the Hook Office.] "All we gotta do is kill the targets in the most gruesome way possible and hang their bodies out in the open. No wonder everyone's excited to join."

  • [Surprised when he finds out Angela is an AI.] "Yet another surprise. It's so rare to meet a sapient being that isn't human in this City."

Taein is a Hook Office Fixer, a gruesome Office that tops off the Canard section of Library of Ruina. The Hook Office pays a visit to the Library and even tries to harm Angela (to no success), but end up booked like the rest of the guests. Taein is a cold and somewhat arrogant individual, but he works well with his peers and is a skilled Fixer for his rank.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium voice able to keep things cold and just a tiny bit smug. Taein should sound like a relaxed hotshot who's not really bothered by much.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • [Chiding Naoki for calling him out on his bloodlust.] "Come on, don't be such a killjoy. You're the one who went on the biggest rampage. Macca's muscles are all sore because he had to try hard to calm you down."

  • [Musing on their current predicament.] "Former members of a killer Syndicate, now registered to an Office and doing Fixer work... Life really is full of surprises, isn't it?"

  • [Shocked when Naoki attacks Angela to no effect.] "What the...? She's pretty damn sturdy. How much did you spend on that bod? Ooh, look at her face now. Guess she really isn't human."

Naoki is a Hook Office Fixer, a gruesome Office that tops off the Canard section of Library of Ruina. The Hook Office pays a visit to the Library and even tries to harm Angela (to no success), but end up booked like the rest of the guests. Naoki is a thoughtful yet surprisingly violent girl who can be quite ambitious in her pursuit of money.

For this role, I'm looking for a medium-high voice that's not overtly sadistic but able to turn on that side when necessary. Not quite as obviously carefree as Eri from Yun's Office, but still able to switch from calm to enthusiastic about violence.

  • [Calling Taein out on his bloodlust.] "You don't say. You got way too excited with that new weapon and things spiraled out of control. We had to kill 20 more people than planned thanks to you."

  • [Noting that they should keep themselves in check.] "I hate to admit it, but he has a point. We all should try to cool down our temper a little. As long as we're working as Fixers, it's not good to raise more trouble than necessary."

  • [Musing on their current predicament.] "At first, I thought it was crazy that an Office would do this kinda work... But I guess 'threatening targets and sending them a warning' makes enough sense. It seems to be working well, too."
