Let's Dub: Peter's Early Commentary!

Let's Dub: Peter's Early Commentary!

Project Overview

As many of you know, the Let's Dub Project has a long, involved history.  Recently, we've taken things like the original dub for 999 and decided to redub them now that we have better quality equipment and more trained actors.  However, there's one essential element that was a cornerstone of those early dubs that for some reason isn't included in the redubs!

That's right.  It's Peter's commentary.

Peter constantly talking over every scene that didn't have scripting, removing any immersion in the scenes, and making it so that the main character role didn't involve any improv was the true heart of the early dubs.  So it is with great pleasure that I announce that I'm casting for a dub of all of his commentary, to be played simultaineously with any new dubs so that they still maintain that magical quality we all grew to love so much.

In Dual Destinies, Peter learns the true value of teamwork and being quiet and decides to ONLY narrate during the gameplay sections, where he tells the viewers what to do.  In future episodes, this will be replaced with the main characters' internal monologues.  This is an older, wiser Peter.  His voice should be sage, like an old hillbilly in a rocking chair.

  • Hellooooo everybody, this is Tyranee.  I'm gonna be guiding you through the gameplay portions of this game, so when you see the sidebar come up?  It's gameplay time!

  • Well clearly here you heard the explanation, what we have to do is press 'pinpoint' and then click on why the heck is she happy that a rock fell on her?

  • Bum Rap Rhiney has a particular thing on him.  Namely?  A tail!

In 999, Peter once again did commentary while narrating and playing the main character.  He's gained some experience, but is still new to the idea of a Let's Dub.  Auditions should be confident, but still youthful and overarchingly inexperienced, like the protagonist of a Kids WB anime.

  • God, if I had a nickle for every time he asked that in this part- God Dang we're gonna get flooded!

  • The goal of this room is actually to open two briefcases.  But you don't just need a key for both of them, you ALSO need a code, which has to do with digital roots, and I can't remember what that is.

  • Honestly what I'm trying to do is go through as much of this as I can without using a walkthrough because I've been through it not too long ago.  Uh, but most likely, umm, what will happen is I will probably end up using a walkthrough regardless.

Finally, we have the last game to ever be graced by Peter's commentary.  As such, this should be a solemn voice, perhaps as etherial as the ghosts in the game, like that of a man giving what he knows to be his final performance in this life, or a priest reading a eulogy.

  • Well!  You know what, Luigi?  I see that you're scared, So why don't you have a little fun with the desk?  Ugh, UGH!  Yes, there we go.  Ok, um, yeah, hump the mirror too, that'll work too.

  • See Luigi?  You should have just gone back to your house and humped your own furniture.  Why do you have to- why do you have to- Stop!  Luigi you friggin... ok.  Anyways...

  • God dangit Luigi, stop humping statues!  Ugh.  Freaking Luigi, I swear!  Stop it!  Stop it, Luigi!  Luigi!

This is a VERY exciting series for Peter, because he finally got it in his head that playing the main character of a series he's directing is a bad plan.  He's still voicing Hifumi though, but eh that's alright.  For this, Peter is strong, like Patrick Warburton, experienced, like Patrick Warburton, and still in everything, like Patrick Warburton.  His voice should reflect that.

  • Blah blah blah, controls controls controls.  This iiiiiiis the kind of examination that I hope Phoenix Wright 5 gets.  Because it's freaking awesome.  If you press triangle it shows you what you can examine, for example this note and these things over here.

  • Yeah, check out this hallway mode, man.  I really wish they had this in Phoenix Wright because this is amazing.  Like, it's like a live like moving around thing.  I wish they had it in 999 too, that'd also be cool.  But yeah, it's really cool.

  • Hm, so we either get to talk to Vampire Princess, Guy With Hair, Emo, or...Akuma in a Dress?  I'm kinda interested in talking to Akuma in a Dress.  Let's try that.

This was Peter's first Let's Dub, where he played Apollo and The Beard in addition to narrating pretty much everything.  At this point he's young and inexperienced, and his voice should match.  A sweeter, more innocent Peter, unaware of the perils that await him, much like a character from a Nick Jr. TV show.

  • Should mention I'm not really using any voice acting for the, uh, cutscenes.  Mainly because you don't know what's happening yet.  And same for the question mark things possibly.

  • Lord- who is, ok, who is this guy, and why is Apollo so afraid of him?  This is our client by the way.

  • Soooo, Phoenix Wright is now a hobo.  With a beanie.  That has a little smiley face on it.  What happened to him?  He doesn't even look like an attorney any more!

In June 2013, Peter had more than 30 episodes of Let's Dubs out between his two series, and still thought that playing the main character and commenting on a series was a good idea.  That's right- There was a time when Phoenix Wring WASN'T played by Dan.  A dark time.  Since Peter was playing Dan's part, for this read Peter's lines like Dan would.

  • I have a really good cast underway this time, and I have experience in mind because I've done two other series at this point and wow.  I can't wait!  Let's move on.

  • Oh god, Winston Payne's back- AND HE HAS HAIR!  Ugh, kill it with fire!  That hair is obviously compensating for something.

  • Yes people, you heard right.  Winston Payne is actually on a winning streak in this time of the flashback.  Go freaking figure.
