And a mysterious teenage mage who calls himself a "Merlin” and who attempts—and fails—to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw.
Requirements:

You may have to get loud and/or scream. It's an action book
Just have fun with your character
You may notice that there are little to no voice descriptions. That's because I want your full take on the character. Some auditions may have a higher tone but I fully encourage you to go lower or even improv a line or two. Have fun and show off your range!

THIS CHARACTER IS THE MAIN VILLAIN
Martin is driven by a desire for power. He is resentful at never being Awakened, and thus never getting to have Arthur's powers and abilities and getting to be the head of the Order over the Regents. Martin thinks all wars are opportunities, and Camlann is no different. Martin is calculating and deceptive. He speaks with a Southern charm and in gentle tones of hospitality to lure others into relaxing.
NOTE: This character dies. This character is bluntly racist and misogynistic to Bree once.

The last uprising of demons was over two hundred years ago. And while none of were living we know that this is how Camlann begins.
My apologies for the restraints. I had a feeling you'd decline my invitation to chat.
Selwyn! You wouldn't be callin' aether against my son, now would ya?
THIS CHARACTER IS A MAIN LOVE INTEREST
Nick is friendly, kind, and open. He is well-liked by everyone. Nick is impossibly bright and cherry and has a warm, genuine laugh. Unlike many other members of the Order, Nick is not prejudiced or clique-ish. He is straight-forward. He's described as increibly charming a character even saying "Everyone falls in love with Nicholas, Bree. It's part of his insufferable charm." Bree watches Nick frequently go through the same progression of emotions: anger, restraint, resignation. Nick describes himself as "great on paper." Darker parts of his personality can come through,

I'm not a creep- Just clever! And operating under Dean Mckinnon's explicit orders.
When could I have told you? In the ten minutes before we walked into the Oath? In the two minutes before Sel attacked you?
Don't do that. It's ok to be nervous but don't dismiss the idea that I like you. Because I really do.
Alice is a Taiwanese-American sixteen-year-old girl so I'd prefer only Asian Americans apply for this role. Alice is the studious type, very perceptive, observant, and clever. She is a supportive friend to Bree and always knows just what she needs, although she isn't afraid to give her tougher love. She is smart and determined and not afraid to stand up for what is right, even against the Legendborn. She loves history and never curses. Gillian notes how impressed she is with how calmly and quickly Alice adjusts to learning about the Legendborn world. Bree notes that Alice would make a terrifying Regent. Alice has a focused gaze that makes you feel likes she’s not thinking about anything but you. She can go completely still with attention and listen. Alice can hold her own against the Legendborn and is not easily intimidated.

I read about this quarry on the way here. Every few years kids get hurt, fall on the rocks, drown. We're sure as hell not jumping, and it's getting late. We should go.
I'm insulted by your weak conversational deflection. That's not best-friend behavior
Who's the literary nerd? The quoter or the one who recognizes the quote?
William is known to be kind but firm in his demeanor and tone. He stands up to Sel, who actually listens to him, and teases Sarah. He describes himself as "a healer by inheritance and by nature." He's shrewd, attentive, straight-forward, and friendly. He has an analytical and medical mind that uses humor to defuse a situation. William tends to be everyone's first call and is the main one who describes the Legendborn world to Bree. Therefore uses a lot of welsh words which Bree is often described as not understanding.
NOTE: This character is gay. This character has a soft European accent(He's welsh)

In this infirmary, I am your king. Nick was not discharged! His head is still healing!
Gentlemen! Speaking of the Code, may I remind you both that these walls are not soundproofed. The more you argue outside this door, the more Sel will need to erase.
“No. But ‘Medieval Fun House of Horrors’ would make a great band name.
Sarah is Half-Venezuelan so I would prefer only Latinas apply for this role as she actively faces prejudice in the book. Sarah better known as Sar is a very friendly girl. She spends most of her time with her girlfriend and pretty quickly recognizes prejudice. She's determined and kind. She speaks up for Bree a lot in the book and, despite her soft look, is considered to be incredibly strong. She doesn't back down when it comes to protecting the people she likes.
NOTE: Uchel is pronounced e-schwell

Bree was taken hostage by the uchel, Sel. She’s covered in slime, frightened half to death. Take it easy, will you?”
We didn’t know where you and Will went. Nick called your phone a bunch, said it went to voicemail. I think he thought you went home after… everything that happened in the woods.
I pass, so people don’t realize I am too. Or they forget. They say racist crap around me sometimes.
Felicity is an organized leader. Bree notes that she's probably in student government in the Onceborn world. She's incredibly bubbly and welcoming. She is dating Russ Copeland and the two are described as "adorably in love with each other." Felicity is basically always seen with Russ and vice versa.
NOTES: This character gets what the book calls "Awakened" so she screams. This character is British

Nick… Sarah said you were here, but… -Disbelief
Oh... Those are, er, handcuffs. That Merlins can enchant with aether to restrain individuals.
I’m fine, Nick, thank you for asking. Just not- totally used to the strength yet.
Russ is a determined and powerful man. He often jokes but will waste no time getting the job done. The man is never seen without his girlfriend Felicity which he lovingly calls Flick. The two are described as "adorably in love"
While Felicity here regains the power of speech, I’ll say it’s good to see you, man.
Yeah, Flick, how are you feelin’? -Teasing
Flick? Flick answer me! No no no this can't be happening it's too early!
At first Evan comes off as "just another frat boy". He's a jokester and ultimately very sweet. Bree sees him as a close friend. The man is dating Charlotte who's a old friend of Bree's. Later in the story he is revealed to be a monster and the real Evan is long dead. So have a wide voice range.
NOTE: This character dies.
There she is! The Page who finally brought our knight-errant out of the woodwork.
Lies are easy when you're fighting for the right cause.
Oh Bree, you're too smart. Though I have to thank you, if it wasn't for you I would have never found the entrance.
Fitz is not very friendly. Sarah describes him as an ass. He is irritable, and constantly on edge. He's not too big of fan of Bree and in fact rallies against her most of the time. But at the very least he accepts her presence and moves on.

Last week?! Why didn't someone tell us?
The penalty for breaking this vow is total mesmer and excommunication to the darkness of unknowing, never to return to the light. Do you bind yourself still?
He's a good fighter Nick. You think shadow born fight clean?
Whitty is a bit of a jokester and is welcoming to Bree when she first arrives. Bree immediately likes his casual indifference. Bree notes that Whitty doesn't seem to be the "sports and glory type" and for the most part he isn't. The man is overall very sweet and one of the few people on Bree's side since the beginning. Bree considers him a close friend.
NOTES: This character dies. James has a southern accent.

Sar said they took Sel's aether right out of his weapons? That doesn't seem possible
Nice to meet you Bree. Nick here your sponsor?
Plenty o' time to be at each others throats if the tournament stories are true.
Mariah is a black female so I prefer only black people apply for this role.
Mariah is an art history major at UNC. Her parents weren't thrilled at first with her plans. However, when she studied abroad in Paris over the summer they became more supportive. She is also part of the Black Student Movement at UNC. Mariah is very level headed. She is described as friendly and supportive but can come off a bit.. odd.

You a member of BSM? Black Student Movement. We meet up for meals and events, and we’ve got a room in the Union, a magazine, performance groups, committees. It’s pretty dope. Lots of ways in.
“No, that’s not what I meant. I mean you’re so young to be so acquainted with death.
Then why do it? Hiding what you are on top of hanging out with the good ole boys club? Twisting yourself all up into a shape that’s convenient for them? Sounds exhausting.
Edwin is a black man so I prefer auditions that fit that.
Edwin is the father of our main character Bree. He is a father who's just doing his best. The recent passing of his wife and very clear change in demeanor with his daughter has him extremely worried. But he saves face for Bree making sure to be enthusiastic whilst being a little stern. He truly cares for his daughter and just wants to see her succeed.

I know you're Brave Bree who was ready to escape Bentonville, but don't forget us little people back home. -Optimistic, joking)
Make your mom proud, Bree.
It's a real college campus. And they take my real college money.
Patricia, better known as Dr Hartwood is a black woman so I would prefer only black people apply for this role. Dr Hartwood is called in as Bree's therapist. She teaches Bree about her ancestry and her form of magic "Rootcraft". Bree starts to see her as a mentor and a friend before Dr Hartwood dismisses Bree from her care. Patricia is generally casual and laid-back. She's composed and quietly confident and self-assured. Due to her profession, she has strong levels of emotional agility.
Hi, Bree! This is Dr. Hartwood. Your father arranged for us to meet regularly starting today. What do you think about meeting somewhere on campus? It’s a beautiful day!
I don’t know very much about your mother, Bree, so understanding is a tall order. But I know about root
There comes a time when even passive support turns to endorsement, and I won’t endorse what you’re doing with the Order. I can’t.
Greer is nonbinary so I prefer only enbies audition. Greer is friendly and understanding. They are immediately welcoming to Bree. They tell Bree that they understand a bit of what she's going through because people say derogatory things to them as well. Greer is a warrior and enjoys the battle. Bree considers them a close friend

Only Nick could get away with plucking somebody outside Vassalage. He's probably happy you're not one of them.
Craig there wants Nick to choose him before the Trials’ve even started. Want some gum? I chew when I’m nervous.
All of it’s a leap of faith when you’re an outsider and don’t have the Sight yet. You seem to be taking it pretty well, Bree.
Any voice male or female. These will be one-liners that appear in the book, you will more than likely be used more than once! Some of these One-liner characters have names but zero significance in the book. State your name, age, discord, and a little fun fact about you!
