Welcome to the audition for Slice of Life Dubs' audiovisual adaptation of "I Want to be a Cute Anime Girl", a Webtoons comic by Azul Crescent!
Synopsis: Charon, an assigned-male teenager, discovers their feminine side after their older sister dresses them in female clothing as a joke.
Make sure to mind the following rules:
1. Please read the comic before auditioning. This is to ensure that you have a good feel for the characters.
2. Please record three takes of each line while paying special attention to the direction provided.
3. You must use an XLR microphone.
4. Please use the .wav extension.

Voice Actor
Charon (pronounced "Share-awn") is an assigned-male teen who accidentally discovers their female side when their sister dresses them in her cosplay clothing as a joke. When dressed as a female, Charon goes by the name "Cheryl".
Although Charon is assigned-male, their voice is naturally androgynous/feminine and can be easily mistaken for the voice of their sister, Chloe. A casual, mid-to-low-range teenage androgynous or feminine voice would work well here, but the ability to temporarily fluctuate radically is a must. Ideally, Charon and Chloe will be played by the same actor/actress.
"I guess…that’s how I came to be. I just feel…more okay with myself like this. Even though I know that I’m not 'normal', I’d rather be like this. Mr. Hank…do you want Charon to just be Charon?" (stammering, nervous, on the verge of tears)
"But I look so pretty like this, though! I’m just going to take a few selfies and then I won’t have Chelsie dress me up like this again!" (rushed, giddy, excited)
"That’s literally impossible! How would I even introduce Cheryl to him when we’re the same person? Besides, if he was asking me to introduce him to Chloe or Chelsie, I wouldn’t do that either!" (annoyed, offended)
Voice Actor
Chloe is one of Charon/Cheryl's sisters and is accepting and encouraging when it comes to Charon/Cheryl's self-discovery and exploration of their female side. She is an introvert and an avid PC gamer with a quick wit and an expansive sense of humor. A more casual, mid-to-low-range teenage female voice would work well for this character.
Ideally, Charon and Chloe will be played by the same actor/actress.
"You couldn’t get a cute girlfriend so you made yourself the cute girlfriend, right?" (teasing, sarcastic)
"Nah, I’ll pass. It’s just not my thing. ‘Sides, I don’t really plan to grow my nails out either. They get in the way when I use my keyboard." (casual)
"Ugh…outside. I miss my room." (crestfallen)
Voice Actor
Although she is having obvious trouble acclimating to "the new normal", the siblings' mother is accepting and encouraging when it comes to Charon/Cheryl's self-discovery and exploration of their feminine side. She is generally very warm, loving, and caring. A mature, mid-range voice would suit this character best.
Also, "Charon" is pronounced "Share-awn".
"Did you just pull a 'dad joke' on me?! Right now?!" (livid, in disbelief)
"No, I’m just…I’m just surprised and not sure how to feel about this. We’ve had Charon for 15 years, and I never knew that he might have wanted to be a girl." (confused, scared)
"Honey, I was listening. I’m not angry or upset at you. It’s just that I don’t fully understand this, and that makes me worried." (reassuring, on the verge of tears)
Voice Actor
Randy is one of Charon/Cheryl's classmates and friends. It is highly unlikely that he will be supportive of Charon/Cheryl once they come out to their friends. A casual but gritty voice with arrogant overtones would work well.
Also, "Charon" is pronounced "Share-awn".
"‘Sup, mah dudes?" (casual)
"Er…Charon? Am I imagining it or are your nails painted?" (confused, teasing)
"Isn’t that kinda gay? I mean, only girls paint their nails." (teasing)
