However You Colour It (Audiobook)
Project Overview
I am writing a novel that I want to transform into an audiobook in order to reach more audiences. "However You Colour It" is a murder mystery with hints of comedy, romance, and horror. Every character has specific mannerisms, flaws, and voice.
"However You Colour It" follows the story of a man who is known throughout the world as the definition of perfection. He's prevented wars, saved lives, sacrificed everything he is or was for others. He was named a saint, and the whole world worshipped him.
However, there are a select few people who know who he truly is, and the only reason they kept their mouths shut was that the saint could ruin their lives. Well, he could have if he was alive... but nobody's stopping them now.

Silas is an old man. His hair greyed, his back is in pain, and his conscious is tired. Every word out of him should feel like an effort is being made. He's ready and accepting of death. He feels regret and remorse for what he has done.
(slightly amused and tired) I have a terrible feeling that this is why I couldn’t get to sleep... I also have a terrible feeling that I know how this is going to end.
(surprised and tired) Letting me have some last words, huh? That’s kind of you. Kinder than I ever was to be sure, but you probably know all about that.
(remorseful and hoarse) You didn’t deserve anything that happened to you. I hope you know that. You were a better person than I could ever be, yet you are the one that suffered. I'm sorry...
I need someone who can stitch all of the voice acting parts together once everything is in, and add sound effects that apply to what is happening in the scene.
Say something you think would fit
I would like the narrator to be a good mixture of emotional and calm. Be in the moment of the scene, but don't steal the light away from the dialogue. If you are in a character's head, then by all means put your good acting to work.
Early in the seeping morning, the light shone upon the household of the Siren’s. They were not magical by any means, despite what their family name might suggest. They also weren’t much of a family, unless a begrudged daughter taking care of her sick mother counted as one. Such a beautiful morning seemed unfitting for the daughter, Rouge’s, mood.
Joan is the detective of the story. She is young and unsure of herself. She has high functioning autism, so her lines will most of the time sound like she is struggling to sound professional. She's distracted easily and not good with on the spot decisions.
(whispering to herself) So that was the last anybody had seen or heard from Silas. But… who was Silas talking to?
(avoiding eye contact, clearly nervous) I think it would be best for both you and your mother if you met me tomorrow at Silas’ house.
(less nervous than the previous line, but still anxious) I’m afraid you are a prime suspect. I’d like to take you in for questioning.
Rouge is a troubled woman. She works as a police officer and has a massive chip on her shoulder. Her baseline mood is done with everybody's shit. Her protective nature causes her to destroy relationships unintentionally and her strong boundaries cause her to cut off people from her life often. She has a lower voice for a woman.
(exasperated and desperate when her sick mother won't eat) No, you ate last night. That was a long time ago. Look, I even made your favourite. It’s a strawberry crepe, see?
(irritated and slightly monotone) What are you doing here?
(annoyed) I assure you, I’m fine. I’m a cop, remember? I think I can handle a sick old lady.
Kailya Siren is a middle-aged woman with a brain injury. She acts older than she is because of it. She is Rouge's mother.
(amused) Typical Rouge, always trying to take care of everyone else first.
(depressed and monotone) I’m not hungry. Just leave me alone and let me sleep. I’m tired.
(innocent and cheerful) Speaking of taking care of others before yourself, how’s work going?
Sam is Ellif's husband. He has a higher-pitched voice for a man, so a female could play him too. He's been through some trauma but has recovered quite well. Some of his past trauma comes to the front when he worries for Ellif.
(concerned and sad) You had another nightmare, didn’t you? Ellif, I told you to wake me up if you had a nightmare.
(flustered) Well, no, I don’t--I mean, yes! I do like what I see, but, oh that sounds weird. I was just drifting off, staring into space, you know? Not intentionally, just-
(worried) Ellif? Are you okay? Who was on the phone?
Ellif struggles with a multitude of mental health issues. He has an anxiety disorder that borders on paranoia, severe clinical depression, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder. He is married to Sam and keeps his life calm and uneventful in order to avoid attacks and relapses.
(calm but trying to hide how scared he is) I wanted to see you before you left for work. Is that so strange?
(defensive and rough) What would you do? You can’t magically make them go away. It would be useless to bother you.
(Unbothered and calm) Yeah, I’m fine. Just felt like getting an early start to my day.
Pierre is full of himself, believes he is the best-looking person in the room, and he is correct most of the time. Even though he is a senior, he has the combined looks of Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Lautner. He's emotional but hides it with making fun of everyone else in the room. Graham is the only friend he confides in.
(laughing and tired) Ah, I’m just old and tired. Don’t worry about it, Graham.
(quiet and choked up) On the morning of his death, I felt off. I had always had the intention of apologizing to Silas for what I did to him, but that morning it felt important. Like it was my last chance.
(a screeching sob) He left me a long time ago, he stopped loving me, and he wasn’t in my life when he died. Now, he’ll never be in my life again, so no, it doesn’t affect me!
Graham is an old man who just wants to find someone who he can spend the rest of his luxury filled years with. Pierre is the person he chose, and it works only because Graham admires his sense of humour and call to adventure. Even though Graham is a quiet old man who enjoys feeding the birds and reading a book, he loves being taken out of his comfort zone.
(heartbroken but trying to stay strong) You’re still in love with him… aren't you?
(forcing the words out of his mouth) I want you to be happy, and if you’re not happy with me then… that’s okay.
(nonchalant and hopeful) If it doesn’t affect us now, then not really. Your past, your business. All we have to focus on is now.
Crystal is a steadfast, stubborn woman who stands up for what she believes in. She loves her husband to death, though, and can unlock her gentler side if she wants. She is a black woman who is pregnant in the entire book.
(annoyed) In order to make me feel better, you bought more pillows, but this time for yourself.
(gentle and concerned) I noticed that part of the reason you’ve been so protective over me lately is because of Uncle Silas.
(teasing) Yes, and then I saw that you were hot, so I held my tongue,
Leo is educated and well-spoken. He's calm, collected, and well off financially. Everything he does screams poise and precision without him even meaning to. He is the husband to Crystal and soon to be a father.
(quiet and helpless) I just want you and our baby to stay safe. I’m the only one who can keep the danger away.
(encouraging and loving) And you never gave me a reason to believe that you weren’t that same strong woman I bumped into at the grocery store, even at your most vulnerable.
(amused and happy) I can’t hit you, you’re pregnant. I do believe that this pillow fight is rigged in your favour,
Aaron is an emotionally unstable man who puts his happiness on others. He means the best, but it often ends up the opposite of how he wanted,
I'm worried about you... I know she hasn't been herself since the accident, and I want to make sure you're okay.
I know her better than anyone. Please, let me help!
Can't I just see her? For a little bit?
Bambi is cheerful, caring, and definitely a morning person. She's a Native-American girl who cares deeply for her friends and family.
I thought I heard you talking. What are you doing up>
And you're really sure you're okay?
I have to go back to sleep, I have to work in a few hours. Bye!
Barney is confused a lot. He doesn't always catch what is being said so is sometimes left in the dark unintentionally.
I came as soon as I was able to. Are you guys alright?
Wait, what's happening? I thought you were joking.
Well shit, this is like a movie-- I'll shut up.
Cory believes his entire purpose to be helping those around him. His empathy is through the roof.
Hey brother, are you okay? What's going on?
I'll answer any questions you need me to, Ma'am.
I know him, and I know that he would never do something like this. Not to the people he loves.
Evelyn is ready to murder someone on cue, as she has killed before, but those are only rumours, right? She is Asian and is ready to support her friends to death.
I haven't talked to you in 8 years, and now you call me up just because you got into a little bit of trouble?
You are a fucking idiot.
Remind me to murder you later, because at least I won't get caught.
