[PILOT] How To Fix A Pocket Watch: An Audio Drama

Project Overview

How To Fix a Pocket Watch is an audio drama about the city of Coco in 3046, and how two brothers Gizmo and Crank figure out how to survive in an uncertain and harsh world. We will be releasing episodes weekly to Spotify, iTunes, and youtube.

Currently, this is an entire volunteer base, but the moment the editing team makes money, you will as well.  We will have many side characters in the different episodes and there will be 5 core series regulars.  The pilot episode has a commitment of 2 weeks, if the series continues, the commitment timeframe of this project will be roughly 12-16 weeks. Detailed schedules will be sent to those who are cast.

We look forward to you bringing our characters to life!

The Narrator tells the story from their perspective. They are full of sarcasm and resentment for the city. For the pilot episode the Narrator does the majority of the talking. Must have good audio quality. Feel free to play around with any European accent if not North American.

Preferably a mature sounding voice.

  • Our story takes place in the decrepit City of Coco. The year is 3046, two hundred years after the Great Divide. Here, we follow the story of two brothers, Gizmo and Crank as they try to survive any way they can.
This is: How to Fix a Pocket Watch.

  • This week's episode we start by following Liz into town for her regular errands, it's interesting what she will do when no one is watching, isn't it?

  • Crank big. Crank Smash. Crank... is actually using his words? This is a first dear listener's, I know I haven't seen it before.

Gizmo is 13-15 years old. He is incredibly intelligent, timid, and very respectful towards women and elders.  He creates gadgets to trade for rations using tools and scrap he collects from looting bodies and homes in off curfew hours. Though he considers himself smarter than his older brother Crank, he will always turn to him if anything goes wrong.  His parents abandoned him and his brother shortly after he was born, Crank is the only family he knows.

  • Crank I'm not sure if this is such a good idea, I swear if we just get back to the shop we can figure this out-- are you listening to me? I said we need to stop.

  • Sorry Miss Elizabeth, I was just-- no, I know... I won't do it again.

  • I really do appreciate the ration coins though John, can I call you John? you know-- here let me close your eyes for you-- that's better...

Elizabeth is anywhere from 25-50 years old, it is dependent on whoever's voice we see fit.

She swears she is cold as ice and will kill you without a second thought, her bite as bad as her bark. She also grows to have a paternal love for the two brothers who have recently moved in next to her shelter, she won't admit it though.

  • I don't care what you think you were doing, you can't be running around during the dark hours... What are you looking at? That includes you too genius.

  • Look, you're cute and all, but I won't stop myself from looting your corpse the moment you stop breathing, but for now, just stay out of my way.

  • Are you hurt? You're bleeding... who did this to you? Hey--hey... breathe. Stay with me.

Pocket Watch is anywhere from 25-50 years old, it is dependent on whoever's voice we see fit.

He thinks he's the most charming man in the land. His voice is smooth, a real Flynn Rider type, constantly able to get out of any impossible situation using wit and charm alone.

He has always been a one-man show, but he slowly finds himself in a makeshift family on his quest to take down Big Papa.

  • Woah, woah, woah, hands off kiddo, can't a guy get a wink of sleep around here? What? What did I say? You look like you've seen a ghost.

  • So what? The kid broke curfew, what are you? His mother? He's strong enough to defend himself, right kiddo? --- Woah -Liz, no need to bring out the big guns, Liz... baby, have I told you how beautiful you look today?

  • I've been tracking Big Papa for as long as I can remember, he's got a watch like mine and I'm trying to figure out how his is still tickin'. No-- it's something I have to do alone.

Crank is 19-25 years old.

He is fiercely protective over Gizmo.

He will use physical force to fix any problem. A real "Act now, think later" type of guy.

Think big dumb jock stereotype, can sound slightly cartoonish.

  • Hey-- I don't think I like the way you're looking at me

  • Giz buddy, get some sleep, I'm sure your bright ideas will still be there in the morning.

  • Don't you think I know he's in danger? Don't act like you're all high and mighty, y'know we were doing just fine 'til you came along. You think I don't know my own brother?

Drusilla is 20-50 years old.

Big Papa's assistant who in anyone's memory has never aged.

She sounds like a chipper robot, and acts as though she has been under Big Papa's spell.

  • Good Morning fine citizens of Coco! Isn't it such a delightful day? I hope you all stayed inside tonight-- well if you're hearing this then I'm sure you did.

  • I'm sorry, Big Papa is busy right now, but if you make a formal complaint to City Hall he will be right with you I'm sure-- but is there really anything to complain about in our wonderful city?
