Hopeless Audiobook

Hopeless Audiobook

Project Overview

I wrote a story I want to bring to life, so here's a fun little project for Youtube.

The story, which can be seen @ https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B-FSwQwT2GBm7S9MEue8tf3OJ6mFSHfhFZxWGcEjz28/edit is a work in progress story following the life of a teenager princess turned magic school girl. It watches her tackle regular school life but with magic as she figures out how to use said magic and get over her past. If you do read it, good for you, it's long, but feel free to leave feedback because I'll probably be editing it as I figure out every character's lines and such.

The end project will be nonprofit so I'm sorry but this is an unpaid project :l I do really feel bad about that but it is just for fun. Also, also, it's entirely possible this project won't completely go through. If not enough people are willing to be a part of it, the whole thing kinda falls apart and we're left with nothing. I'm going to continue pushing back the deadline as much as possible until I'm sure it's not going to happen. I'm super sorry!! If that means you won't audition, that's totally okay!

You can reach me on Discord (AngelsDisaster#9507), Instagram (@anangelsdisaster). Thank you for considering auditioning :)

*Please don't audition if you aren't comfortable swearing or talking about more adult themes :)*

  • Holding back casting

Hello, everyone! I hope everyone is safe and healthy in these... less than ideal times. I'd just like to say thank you all for auditioning, but I will pause my focus on this project for a while, or at least until I complete my final draft of the story and get everything sorted. I'm sorry for not being organised, like, at all. I have a few people shortlisted, but not enough auditions for smaller roles (I totally get that). Again, thank you all for auditioning, if you have, and I'll continue pushing back the deadline. Fair warning, if it comes to it, I may cancel the entire project (as it's currently solo) and I am replacing 'creepy dude' with 'Zayne' who is actually still a creepy dude but have a bigger, reoccurring role. Thanks! - Sam
  • Oops... - 'Creepy Dude' Role

So. It has come to my attention that a role that is not a lead is marked as a lead... This role being the 'Creepy Dude.' He doesn't actually have many lines or much importance and may be completely left out of the final project. I'm really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause!

(It's entirely possible I won't cast anyone who auditions for this role and end up doing it myself, so I'd advise you to also audition for another character too if you'd really like to be apart of this project.)

The main character of this thirty chapter shitpost. Whoever is cast as this role is in for a long ride. I am so sorry in advance. All narration, other than a few chapters, is from Maddie. You will need a large emotional range and to be able to do younger voices for her, so one for a 9/10yr old, a 13yr old and a 16/18yr old version as the story skips around a bit.  You don't need to do all of the lines for all of the ages but please try to do at least one per age :)

Maddie is a princess from the kingdom of Saiton (pronounced kinda like sigh-ton) who grew up in the worst of situations,  Maddie is difficult to read so I'm going try my best to describe her twenty thousand personality traits. So. Usually, Maddie is very upfront, very real but will still act like that brattish princess she grew up is. She'll tell it how it is, most likely in the nicest way possible regardless of how rude the statement actually is.  However, she is nice, she is very caring, she just shows it in many strange ways. When going through trauma or anything intense, she tends to shut off. She'll shut everyone out and refuse to feel. She will not feel anything for days. This tends to dig her into a much worse hole. She gets angry easily and acts on impulse. All that lovely stuff.

Her voice is quite posh but toned down compared to her parents and other nobles. There's a bit of freedom with her voice so go ham :)

  • 9 year old - “Come on! Your stories are getting repetitive again. And they’re always about this damn castle! At least tell me one of those stories!”

"Screw him! I hate him so much! I hate him!"

  • 13 year old - “Are you trying to ask me if I killed my own sister?!”

“My sister and I were playing Kings and Queens. I heard shouting. The whiff of vodka, or some kind of alcohol, pierces the room. After footsteps approached the room, I blacked out. It wasn’t until I was breaking down in my closet that I actually woke up. I don’t remember anything between the footsteps and the closet. That is all I know.”

  • 16 year old - “You either give me what I need, or I will not hesitate to tighten that vine.”

"Goddamn it, Sam! You can't just disappear, you lunatic! Help!"

“But I’ve only had three mental breakdowns this week. Less than the eleven I had last week.”

Madelyn's maid, Nicola is sort of a foundation to the story. She lays down groundwork other characters can't and is a guardian character for Madelyn and her sister in their youth.

Her voice is very smooth and soft. I like to imagine her with a British accent but I'm weird so that's not a major thing. However, her voice is quite posh and refined

  • “Change is hard, I know. But I think she knows what she’s doing.”

  • “She was a kind girl, miss. She only wanted the best for others. She reminds me of someone I know, one of the strongest little girls ever.”

  • “I appreciate it, miss, but I do believe your mother knows what’s best for you. Both as a sixteen-year-old girl and a noble.”

Christina is Madelyn's mother, aka the queen herself. She's very strict and very focused. She has a very small role to play in this story.

Her voice is very mature and posh, almost British.

  • “Are you looking forward to this new change, dear?"

  • "I think it will be good for you after all these years.”

  • "I thought you’d like it more than a necklace or earrings. Something to remind you where you’re from,”

Sam is the main supporting role. As the lead's (Madelyn) best friend, she has quite a few lines. In one of the last few chapters, the point of view changes to her's and will require narration.

Sam can be witty and sarcastic when around people she's comfortable with or as a way to not show how uncomfortable she is in certain situations. She's a teenager, and as one, I don't know any teenagers who aren't smart asses from time to time. Also like a lot of teenagers, she's stubborn. She cares a lot about her friends and what they think of her, which means it hurts her more if they fall out or something goes wrong between them. She's sensitive and wears her heart on her sleeve, which she kind of compensates for with her weird one-liners that are spotted through her dialogue. She can get pushed off the edge very easily and can get frustrated with very small things. Other than that she is really bubbly, and positive, which is most of the time. Her voice would typically reflect this, it'd be bubbly, higher-pitched, and cheerful but sombre when necessary. Feel free to experiment though.

  • "It's pretty cool, huh?"

  • “A locally sourced sex dungeon. Paid for and fully supported by the school... kidding.”

  • "Mads, are you sure you want to do this? An eye for an eye and the world goes blind..."

Another one of Madelyn's friends is Molly. Described as a 'tiny mother,' she's caring and hopeful (ironic). Despite her height, she can be as fiesty as a situation calls for.

Her voice would be a mix of maturity and youth, cheerful and full of optimism.

  • "Mayhaps isn’t an actual word, Jaime."

  • "Coward. Show yourself!"

  • "Maybe one of the books is like a lever of some sort? And it opens a secret passageway!"

Ah, Jaime. Yet another one of Madelyn's friends. She's a lot more aggressive and blunt than some of the others but not to a point where she's mean (lol sorry Jay ((This is why we read the source material)).)

Her voice is more matured but not in an older way if that makes any sense at all? In a way, her voice is more smooth and elegant, or at least smooth and elegant for a 16 year old.

  • "Honestly Jay, I’m about to smash your fucking head in."

  • “No one likes school, Maddie, you’re not special.”

  • "Making a name for myself is all I seemed to want. I needed to know I can make something good out of my power."

Avery is the head girl at Crystal Preparatory School.  Everyone either loves her, hates her, or is scared of her. She isn't afraid to be mean, regardless of how put together she is herself.

Her voice is sassy and toned, she means every word she says. She's a bitch and it comes through in the way she speaks

  • “What’s the sob story this time?”

  • “Calm down, Avery, you’re fine! Everything is fine!”

  • “Trust me, your beauty sleep hasn’t been working.”

Madelyn's father, Mr Ross, is the king of Saiton. There isn't much to know about him, other than the fact he's a messed up sadist :)

His voice would be rasped and deep, one to send shivers down someone's spine.

  • "She was in my way. Just like the small one."

  • "Nice going, Nancy Drew."

  • “Madelyn… Come home.”
