Grey Feather - Angel/Demon Based Visual Novel
Project Overview
Grey Feather centers around Doctor Avery, a 59 year old scientist who studies souls. One day he’s visited by someone who looks uncannily like his long-dead son. From there, he’s dragged into misadventures and conspiracies, and has to try to survive more than a few dangerous situations!
This isn't the longest visual novel in existence, but there are quite a few lines for the main roles (mostly Doctor Avery and Latael). It's my first visual novel, so I'm very excited to try to make it the best it can be! Everyone involved (even if you only have one line) will get a free copy of the game.
Note that one of the characters sublots includes discussion of suicide/suicidal urges. Any role that is involved in those sort of scenes has been marked in the description of the role.

Just so that I don't spam people's emails, I thought I'd put two updates in one! So, firstly, I just wanted to mention that I'm likely to double-cast some roles, since a few of them have very few lines and (assuming the voice actor can change their voice up a little so the characters don't sound the same) it wouldn't be unreasonable to have one person do two characters' lines. I might have mentioned this already somewhere on this page and forgotten, but now I know for sure that I've said it. The only roles that I WILL NOT double-cast are those of Dr Avery, Latael, and Raphael, since they have the most lines out of anyone. And, since I'm going through and drawing all the character images, it's probably best I actually update this page so you can actually see the characters that you're auditioning for!

Name Pronounciation Guide
I just realized that some of the names are really weird, and a quick guide to their pronunciation would be wise. Mispronunciations won't be held against anyone who's already auditioned, though! Latael: Lah-tay-el Sephael: Sef-ay-el Retrael: Ret-ray-el Thisriel: This-ri-el Midriel: Mid-ri-el Hun'Xibinem: Hun-ksib-in-em
Doctor Avery is old and bitter, but not incapable of happiness. Usually he's rather gruff and unwilling to get close to people since the death of his son, Daniel. He finds it hard to work out the right thing to say, and can be a morally grey character depending on the choices made by the player.
Since he's the main character, he does go through a wide range of emotions.
(Note: Actors auditioning for this role must be comfortable discussing suicide/suicidal urges)
(Dismissive) Honestly... There's nothing for it. Let them have their superstitions. I have more important things to worry about.
(Pained, breathing heavily) Oh goodness... that... just gets harder every time...
(Confused, flustered) Angels?! I mean- that's- Of course I have questions about that but- but right now I j-just- you- you're here, you're real, it's really you...!
Latael is a nervous, skittish sort of person. He tries his best to keep people happy, but can't help feeling out of place. Buried deep down, so far that even he doesn't realize it, is quite a bit of suppressed rage at his situation. When his nerves reach a tipping point or when people refuse his help, he sometimes snaps and starts shouting at them.

(Demanding) Hey, hey! Snap out of it! (Comforting) Breathe, nice and deep.
(Shaky, tense, almost threatening) ... Why won't you just let me help you?
(Shouting, crying) You matter to me! And- and I know we've only known each other for, like, a day, so me caring might not be all that important to you, but-!
Daniel is a young, bedridden child. Despite his condition, he's energetic (when he's not drained from his sickness) and really wants to get outside and play. He appears only in flashbacks.
(Shaky, pained) It's okay, Dad. It doesn't... It doesn't h-hur-rt-t...
(Excited) Does that mean I can go out and play with all the other kids?
(Scream of pain)
Sephael is an Angel of Judgement, and is very much against Latael associating with Doctor Avery from the start. He is antagonistic no matter what route you take, though occasionally shows a softer side in relation to his siblings.
(Snappish) Latael, there you are! Midriel and Thisriel have been looking all over for you.
(Pronouciations: Lah-tay-el, Mid-ri-el, This-ri-el)(Soft, regretful) Go ahead, then. It's his time.
(Growling, threatening) If it were my choice, you'd already be dead.
Retrael is the soft, almost silent Reaper who is paired with Sephael and carries out his judgements. He is the more level-headed of the siblings, and the most likely to find things they miss. Because of how much death he sees, he finds it hard to relate to people since he knows how fleeting life is.
(Soft, pitying) He's on the verge of death already... When did he last eat?
(Tense, holding back rage) We just lost our brother. You aren't the only one grieving.
(Coming to a realization) My family... I... They're... the only thing I really care about.
Thisriel has a few different sides to her. She is energetic and sweet toward her siblings, but professional to everyone else to the point of coming across as cold. Through the story she does start to break down a little, but recovers eventually.
(Sweet, excited) Latael! I knew I felt your magic around here! I got you some cake!
(Professional) You must be Doctor Avery. I've heard quite a bit about you from my brothers.
(Grief-stricken) Don't-! Just... just don't...
Midriel is an Angel of Joy, always effected by the joy radiating off her wings. She is usually bright and cheery, though the few times she becomes shocked or horrified enough for her wings to stop radiating joy she is filled with grief. She is usually happy to observe, but when she gets an idea in her head she won't let anything stop her.
Because of the joy from her wings, people rarely get upset around her. Because of this, she isn't very tactful and has a habit of bluntly stating the truth.

(Bright) Aw, don't be embarrassed! I think it's heartwarming!
(Soft, shaky) ... It's not a happy story.
(Scream of pain)
Michael is the unofficial leader of the Archangels. While they are supposed to be a democracy, anyone with him on their side usually wins any vote. He is level-headed and calm during debates, but passionate outside of them.
(Firm) Wait your turn, Raphael.
(Unsettled) That's... concerning. Why didn't you tell me?
(Angry) I will never stand by your methods! How dare you overstep your authority! You had no right to order those angels to kill on your behalf!
Raphael is the 'schemer' of the Archangels. He has several plans for all situations, and isn't comfortable with being caught off-guard. He is sarcastic, overly casual, and sometimes quite bitter. Despite not relating to people at all, he has learned enough about them to act friendly and personable while getting people to do what he wants.
(Casual) Oh, hey! You finally got a break?
(Fake cheery, slightly sarcastic) Aha, of course you're friends! It's not like any of you are stupid enough to fight in the streets! That would be almost as bad as openly gossiping about someone three feet from their face!
(Low, boiling with rage) Goodbye, Doctor Avery. Once again, you are sentenced to death. And this time, my son won't be here to bail you out.
Gabriel cares deeply for the angels under her care. However, she is detached from mortal morality.
(Caring, miserable) We smothered him. We lied to him. And as a result, the moment he left our care, he fell.
(Agitated) This isn't a punishment, it's mercy!
Jophiel is obsessed with spiritual beauty. She is generally opposed to killing, but sometimes desperate situations push her to extreme measures.
(Passionate) We are angels, the embodiment of light and hope. If there is even a chance that we can fix things without killing anyone, then we should take that chance!
(Recoiling, horrified) You... you're... disgusting.
Ariel's main role in the story is to act as the representative of the opinions of angels in general. As such, she works as something of an antagonist, but is in no way a villain. While she and Raphael don't seem to get along at first, since he heavily opposes his plan, it's soon revealed that they're more like bickering siblings than actual enemies.
(Exasperated) We're not here for your quips, Raphael. For once in your life, take something seriously.
(Shocked, angry) Raphael, you manipulative little-!
(Caring) If you need help with your job, you can ask, Raph.
Azrael is Raphael's right-hand-man, and keeps him grounded. His tone is usually rather flat, to the point where it's very hard to tell if he's joking or not with some of the things he says. Raphael's sarcastic humor has rubbed off on him a little.
(Dryly) For an Archangel, you have very little faith.
(A little frustrated) No. Contrary to popular opinion, my presence does not kill people, nor is it a sure sign of death.
(Firm) Do not lie. They will be able to tell immediately.
Chamuel is the Archangel that can see the future. As a concequence, they don't deal well when their power gives out.
(Distant) I haven't been able to See anything about this since we took that child's soul.
Imperious is an imposing, commanding angel. He is displeased with the way Heaven is being run, and isn't afriad to do things his own way.
(Cold, low, threatening) Look at you all. Cloaked in the visage of our inferiors. Ignoring the demonic scourge that infests our mortals' world. Is this how far Heaven has fallen in God's absence?
(Bleeding out) Heh... you... you're... a total bitch.
Hun'Xibinem (pronounced Hun Ksib-in-em) is a powerful Archdemon who is quite bitter toward Raphael. Other than that, he doesn't care much about angels, and is just invested in keeping his demons safe.
(Caring, manipulative) For your safety, it's best that you grow stronger while you can.
(Snappish) Fair. Say your piece, then. Be quick. I know how you like to ramble.
(Angry) Are you forgetting my wife, you self-absorbed coward?!
Evalyn is a caring soul, soft and patient. Despite that, she is driven in her field and won't allow anyone to manipulate her.
(Shocked) M-my soul?!
(Concerned) Oh, doctor... are you alright? You look pale...
Noura is a tough woman, but rather lazy with anything that she doesn't care about.
(Demanding) So can you fix it?
(Concerned) How are you feeling now, love?
Kiriel is a gossipy angel who is very protective of her friend Firiel.
(Vindictive, poisonous) We should probably back off, we don't want our wings stained, too.
(Harsh) Don't apologize to him! He should be apologizing for scaring you!
Firiel is a skittish but gossipy angel.
(Fearful, poisonous) Any responsible Angel of Grief would have gotten their wings cleaned weeks ago!
(Terrified) Oh my God! I'm sorry! I don't wanna die!
