Futurama: Monkey sea, monkey DOOM! (Comic)

Project Overview

FUTURAMA [As seen on TV]

Futurama Comics: Episode 1 - Monkey Sea, monkey DOOM!

Greetings Earthlings

So as some of you may know, Futurama as we know and love has been canceled for quite a few years. But more recently we have seen little comebacks like a new game, or the all new podcast episode, and we thought to ourselves... Why not a comic adaptation? We decided to start off with the first issue. So without further ado, here's our attempt at it:

----------------------------------------

REQUIREMENTS:

- Voices as close as the original VAs

- Good mic quality

- Meet deadlines

(...sooo, the basics)

----------------------------------------

EDIT:

We've also been looking for writers and animators. This is to expand further the projects (maybe animation, maybe more comics, even radio-plays...). But do note that if we don't find what we are looking for, the project will continue as previously intended. If you are interested in this, email us to our account [We can't post it here, but check out the BTVA casting call for more info] ~ Thanks for your time.

Philip J. Fry

Philip J. Fry (often referred to only by his last name, Fry) is the main protagonist and character of Futurama. In the future, Fry is the executive delivery boy of Planet Express, which his distant nephew Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth owns. Before being employed by Planet Express in the year 3000 he had worked for Panucci's Pizza during the late 20th century. On New Year's Eve 1999 he was cryogenically frozen by accident while on delivery. The cryo-tube timer was set at 1000 years; hence Fry woke to the last moments of the year 2999.
Although he is often depicted as stupid, Fry does occasionally come up with brilliant schemes to save the day (...or completely destroy it).
Despite being lazy, Fry's heart is in the right place, and when the situation calls for it, he will rise up to formulate a plan to save his friends, though because of his lack of intelligence he rarely comes up with any good plans. He is in love with Turanga Leela.

We recommend listening to his original VA Billy West.

  • Who needs those guys and their futuristic... future? I've got my own little magic carpet ride thanks to Davy Jones and the Partridge Family. Now let's see where Space Boy's Adventures take us today. My guess -- Space!

[We attached an image for the line, use as reference: https://goo.gl/gv8Wkc].

  • [Sad, not whining! He lost hope] It's not fair! All I ask for is one lousy example to show how cool the 20th century was, and even that doesn't go right!

[We attached an image for the line, use as reference: https://goo.gl/Thb6Qo].

  • - [Yelling] Ahh! Leela- help!
    - [Yelling] Monkey sea, monkey die!

Role assigned to: MaraMichele

Turanga Leela is one of the most important employees of Planet Express. She occupies the position of the ship's captain and pilot and therefore is the head of the regular delivery crew consisting of herself, Fry, and Bender. She is known as the most competent of the three main characters.

Despite her troubled past, Leela is friendly, smart and self-reliant, though she is sometimes impatient and quick to anger. She cares deeply for her friends and loved ones, plus issues she feels she must stand up for, like freedom, the environment and cute animals. However she does not hesitate to use force if she believes the situation demands it. She also has a liking for violence and was often sarcastic, but she nevertheless seems to have developed strong maternal instincts at times.

We recommend listening to her original VA Katey Sagal.

  • Well, I'll keep an eye on you just in case. Remember when you tried to sell your kidneys for salsa last week?

  • [Tender] Fry, I want you to know I really am sorry that things didn't work out with your sea monkeys!

  • - [Yelling] Prepare to fire on my command!
    - [Yelling] Ready... aim... FIRE!!!
    - [Yelling] Come on- there's no time to lose!
    - Hold on! I think I just might know how to solve our problems...

Bender is a robot and a bending unit, who works at Planet Express. He is often mean and disrespectful in regards to other people's feelings. He is also quite arrogant, frequently bragging about how great he is. Bender has no emotion about committing crimes and often steals people's wallets or items from shops. He loves smoking and drinking, though as a robot he has to drink alcohol to keep him going. Bender can also be cruel at times and even sometimes treats his own friends badly. He is also extremely lazy, and is often seen sitting around on the couch drinking a beer and/or watching television. However, he is capable of caring for others and is close friends with Leela and Fry.

  • [Whispering to Fry] You go along with the story- whatever smut there is, I'll split it with you 70 – 30.

  • [Yelling] Either you live to have me kill you for even thinking twice about this or you die right now, Fry!!!

  • - [Angry] Way to go, bloodbag! Your new little pals are wreckin' up the city!

Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth is an aged, eccentric, yet accomplished 176 year old inventor, founder and owner of Planet Express and an honorary Globetrotter. He is crotchety, absent-minded and sometimes brilliant, most well-known for his work in 30th century robotics. In 2999, he was the last known relative of Philip J. Fry. Farnsworth is an inventor of both useful and impractical things, some of which are extremely dangerous, such as his Doomsday devices.

Personality-wise, he varies from callous disregard to sentimental affection. He has no objection to sending his crew on missions which may eventually kill them, and has sent previous crews to their deaths before. Though Professor Farnsworth is a genius, he is also very senile and sometimes forgets things that had happened only moments earlier. He also has a habit of saying "Good news, everyone", which more often than not means bad news.

  • [in a radiation suit] Uh, not to YOUR knowledge, no. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go bathe in chlorine ...For no specific reason....

  • - Oh my no. That could be dangerous! Instead we'll just dump them in this waste container!
    - [Confused] Thank you, Leela... what am I doing with this again?

Role assigned to: XaniWright

Dr. John A. Zoidberg, commonly referred by his last name Zoidberg, is a Decapodian employed as staff doctor at Planet Express.

Desperate for acceptance, Zoidberg lives with a continuing delusion that he is well regarded by the rest of the Planet Express crew. He does appear to be rather intelligent, but he is an inept medical practitioner. Most of his co-workers look down on him, especially Hermes, who likes to make his life even more miserable. Dr. Zoidberg is Professor Farnsworth's oldest friend, which suggests that Zoidberg is much older than he appears.

He is an extremely poor man, and he would do anything for food.

We recommend listening to his original VA Billy West.

  • Friends, I found one of your currency papers in the laundry this morning. I was going to use if for a hot meal, unless it belongs to one of you.

  • There, there, Fry! That's what my parents thought I would be, too, but sometimes fate has a different plan!

  • - [Exited] Or maybe best of all... FOOD!
    - [Laughing] Ho, ho, ho... I get it. It's a pun! Very funny...
    - [Laughing] Ho, ho, ho... I'm laughing with friends!

Hermes Conrad is a Jamaican Rastafarian and grade 36 Bureaucrat, and proud of it. He works at Planet Express, handling stamping, filing, collating, and accounting - all the fiddly little paperwork that only a true bureaucrat can handle properly.

He is friendly and hard working but can also be nasty at times, particularly to Dr. Zoidberg.

Hermes also has a habit of saying "Sweet (something) of (some place)".

We recommend listening to his original VA Phil LaMarr.

  • Sweet prawn of Tehran, Fry! Why did you put our address on their tags?

  • Well, that's it for Planet Express. We'll have to file for Bankruptcy!

Amy Wong, Ph.D., is a human from Mars who is of Chinese descent, sole heir to half the planet, and a Doctor of Applied Physics.

Despite her usual intelligence, Amy can be absent-minded.

Amy is friendly and easily gets along with others but she is also a bit of a klutz. She has attracted several men in her time, most notably Kif Kroker, her fonfon ru. Amy also appears to have some level of vanity and is concerned about her appearance. She is engaged in a constant low-intensity feud with Turanga Leela, the only other female at Planet Express, whom she often accuses of not being ladylike enough to be a true woman. Even so, they remain friends.

Sal is a fat man who is seen to occupy many blue-collar jobs throughout the universe. It is unclear whether this is the same man, or if each is a clone created to fill these jobs. Although he doesn't do so when we first meet him, he eventually adds an 's' to words that don't normally take one, and sometimes leaves it off of words that should have one.

Linda van Schoonhoven is a female human from Earth. She is a widely known television presenter, and co-hosts several shows on Channel [square root of two], most prominently, the news, with Morbo. Linda frequently laughs at very serious threats from him, and often describes news in a cheery way no matter how tragic it is.

  • As you can see behind me, these mysterious giant sea creatures are terrorizing New New York, giving new meaning to the term “jumbo shrimp”. [now seen on the T.V. In the Planet Express Lounge] And at this point, Morbo, we'd all be happy to see these monsters on a giant platter with a baked potato and cole slaw!

Morbo the Annihilator is one of the little known species of yellow-eyed aliens with gigantic heads. He is also a widely known television presenter. Morbo started as a reporter in Los Angeles, and now co-hosts several shows on Channel [square root of two], most prominently, the news, with Linda van Schoonhoven, with whom he maintains a relationship that is at least odd.

He is a violent alien and a good friend of President Richard Nixon, he is also obsessed with taking over Earth, mentioning it very frequently. Apparently, he is the scout of an impending alien invasion, although it is possible that his evil is just an act used to increase ratings. Morbo always refers to himself in the third person, and his exposed torso is terrifying beyond imagination.

We recommend listening to his original VA Maurice LaMarche.

C. Randall Poopenmeyer is a male Human and the Mayor of New New York since at least the year 3000. He is attending to countless public occasions, like the opening of a new tube line, the reward of civic heroism, or the Annual Astor Endowment Fundraiser. In spite of his marriage to Mrs. Poopenmeyer, the Mayor seems rather promiscuous, being often seen with other women, such as the Queen of Yonkers. However, he may have just been showing the visiting dignitary around the city as one of his duties.
