Fruits Basket FanDub (2019 Version)
Project Overview
I am trying to do a dub of the anime fruits basket (2019)!! I plan on doing all the episodes and they will be put out on either Tiktok or I will try to put it out on YouTube!! This is something I really hope to finish so please audition!! I hope to have a fun time and really look forward to working with you all!! A couple of rules: Be nice, be present, commit to your part, and have a nice sounding microphone!! I have some roles already assigned so I will be leaving those out!! I will keep adding more roles so keep an eye out!!

Tohru is a student at Kaibara Municipal High School. She loves to cook, describes herself as an excellent housekeeper and has an after-school job as an office janitor to pay her tuition fees to avoid being a burden to her relatives. She is depicted as a polite, optimistic, independent, extremely kind, and selfless person with a nurturing personality.

“It’s not always easy to see the good in people. In some people, you might even doubt that it’s there at all. But if you can somehow, find a way to believe…sometimes that’s all it takes to help someone, to give them the strength to find the good in themselves.”
Kyo is cursed by the spirit of the Cat, an animal who would have been part of the Chinese Zodiac had the Rat not tricked him into missing the ceremony. An irregular member of the Zodiac, not only is Kyo discriminated against, disrespected, and has a future of confinement, he also has a true form which is a grotesque and foul-smelling monster— which he turns into when his Juzu bead bracelet is removed. He has blamed all of his misfortunes on his greatest enemy, the Rat, Yuki Sohma, and has dedicated his life to defeat him.
Normally I hate people who whine all the time, but in your case… it would be okay to complain, be selfish and say what you want once in a while. It’s okay to let yourself be sad.
“I’m gonna take my place as a true member of this family!”
"You stupid rat!"
He is the Rat of the Chinese Zodiac. Known to his classmates with various nicknames such as “Prince Charming”, Yuki is depicted as an attractive, reserved, and accomplished young man with many admirers. However, due to his broken family, abusive childhood, and the effects of the Curse, Yuki has severe self-esteem issues and feels isolated. He has a fan club at school named Prince Yuki Fan Club, though the result is that Yuki feels further isolated.
“I’m not sure why I’ve decided to do this. I’m not any stronger than I was, and nothing else has changed. But all the same, this time I’m not going to run away. It’s okay to feel weak sometimes. It’s okay to be afraid. The important thing is that we face our fears. That’s… that’s what makes us strong."
“Don’t you ever talk about Miss Honda that way again, you low life.”
“It would be so great if it was possible to go through life without making a single mistake.”
He is the Dog of the Chinese Zodiac and one of the oldest members of the Cursed Sohmas. He is best friends with Ayame Sohma and Hatori Sohma, and the three make up the "Mabudachi Trio". He is also the owner of the house where he, Tohru Honda, Yuki Sohma, and Kyo Sohma live. He is a writer who publishes literary novels under his own name and trashy romances under pen names.
“We’ve just witnessed a classic example of what I like to call “misdirected rage”. Though I believe the technical term is being an a**."
“When you get anxious about the future, it is better not to think about it. The more you think about it the more anxious you’ll get. Of course it’s important to think about what lies ahead, too, but if you only look at what’s down the road, you’ll get tangled by the “laundry” by your feet and fall, won’t you? You see, it’s also important to think about what you can do now. What you can do today, and if you keep washing things one at a time, you’ll be done before you know it.”
“With so much at stake… are you willing to take the one in 10,000 chance?”
He is the Rabbit of the Chinese Zodiac. Momiji is depicted as a cute, cheerful, and childlike boy, who is easily mistaken as an elementary school student when he, in reality, is as old as Hatsuharu Sohma and one year younger than Tohru Honda. He later begins attending Kaibara High along with Hatsuharu as first-year students.
"Pain, suffering. It’s pointless to just think about those things. The traveler didn’t. That may be stupid to some people but that’s not stupid to me. Yuki… Kyo… when you close your eyes, what do you think?”
“I’ve gained freedom…and yet… it’s so lonesome.”
“However, I can’t be happy. I feel I can’t have that experience, I can’t assume I will have that experience. I’m free, but feeling lonely and disheartened. I hope there’s happiness out there. Besides, the future is approaching and waiting for me. In the future, I will be a part of the world. I will finally live my life.”
He is the Ox of the Chinese Zodiac, and has something of a Yin and Yang personality related to the Ox's personality; he's usually calm and placid, but can become enraged when provoked. He has a reputation in the family for being somewhat stupid, and blamed Yuki Sohma; the Rat, for it when he was a child. After Yuki asked him whether he believes he is stupid, he realized the mental trap and has since loved Yuki. Haru later begins attending Kaibara Municipal High School along with Momiji Sohma as first-year students.
"If I wouldn’t have tripped, you wouldn’t have stopped, now would you?”
“Now I got some common sense for you, if I wore a tie, it wouldn’t change who I am, if I had no piercings it wouldn’t mean I’m nice, and if my hair was black it wouldn’t stop me from kicking your a**!”
“Sometimes when I’d go to visit her in the hospital…she would purposely avoid me. Then I didn’t know what she was thinking about anymore.”
He is the Dragon of the Chinese Zodiac, one of the oldest members of the Cursed Sohmas and the Sohma family's personal doctor. He is the only known living Sohma family member with the ability to suppress memories of those outsiders who discover the Sohma family secret. Hatori is best friends with Shigure Sohma and Ayame Sohma, and the three make up the Mabudachi Trio, though Hatori is rarely amused by the antics of them.
“It’s true, crying unexpectedly does make you feel better. When you’re an adult you forget that."
“One more word Shigure and the entire publishing industry will know every embarrassing thing you’ve done since you were four."
“I started crying. It was the first time in my life that I felt forgiven. Like I was saved. Like the frozen snow that’s melted by spring, the tears wouldn’t stop.”
Akito is the head of the Sohma family, and fulfills the role of a "God" of the Chinese Zodiac. Akito is depicted as short-tempered and abusive, and has physically and emotionally scarred many Sohmas. On the other side, Akito herself is a victim, as Ren forced her to live as a male because she was afraid Akito would replace her in Akira's heart. Akira, in an attempt to give Akito solace, unintentionally brainwashed her into thinking that she was "special" and would be loved by the Zodiacs no matter what she did.
“It’s frightening that there’s no guarantee that I’ll ever be loved.”
“I want to believe that life isn’t full of darkness. Even if storms come to pass, the sun will shine again. No matter how painful and hard the rain my beat down on me.”
“Idiots should do what idiots can to be quicker.”
She is the Horse of the Chinese Zodiac. A cold, stubborn, proud, and fiercely independent woman who despises the way the other members of her clan submit to Akito Sohma, Rin is very closed-off as a result of her abusive and traumatic past. Since she was rejected by her parents, Rin lives with Kagura Sohma and her family.
"You're trying to break the curse. Stop it. What are you trying to do? Do you look down on us? Do you pity our wretched state? Don't bother! We never asked for your sympathy!"
"He's the Cat. You know what's going to happen to him. What his role is...How we all see him...You know all that, right? Is it sympathy?"
"It's not like that...I really have any memories of it...but God and the Zodiacs Spirit made a promise. I'm sure of it. A long time, hundreds of years ago. To be together... ...For eternity. Even if they were reborn several times... They would go his side, and never leave. They would go to see him. They would always... Always...to be together. We Member of the Zodiac are still bound by that promise. Even with no memories of it. The Blood of the Spirits remembers. A bond may look like a beautiful thing from the outside...but if those involved see it as a burden, it's nothing but a shackle. That's why it's a curse."
e is one of the oldest members of the Cursed Sohmas and the former Rooster of the Chinese Zodiac, whose curse has been broken for at least ten years. Despite being freed, Kureno agrees to pretend that he is still a part of the Zodiac, and is determined to continue to stay by Akito Sohma's side at all times, since he wants to keep her from being lonely.
"I alone am free. I could go anywhere I please. I could love whomever I wish. But that’s exactly why I have to…I have to stay with Akito."
"I’m not like the others anymore. I no longer transform. My curse has already been broken. It happened years ago. I was a little younger than you are now. So I’m no longer a member of the Zodiac. I can’t fly anymore."
"Please. Hate me, that's fine, but don't abandon her. All right? There's no need for you to be so cold. Like you said, she doesn't cling to me out of love. There's one person she's always wanted, and I think we both know it isn't me.”"
He serves as the vice president of the student council during Yuki Sohma's presidency. Kakeru has an energetic character and sometimes claims the student council is a super-sentai–style "School Defense Force". He was the one who made up the nickname "Yunyun" for Yuki.
"I see…so that’s what being alone feels like. (internally) I wanted to see things from her perspective. I wanted to understand, even if only a little. After all, if I couldn’t, what would be the point of being with her?”
" Indeed I do [have a girlfriend]. She’s super cute. I’m crazy about her. So I’m not interested in Honda-san in a romantic sense. She’s on my mind for a different reason. But it concerns more than just me, so I’d like to put off telling you for just a little longer. That okay?”
" Huh…I’m surprised. I see, you’re actually an interesting guy! Sorry if I pissed you off. I’m an idiot at heart, so it tends to happen a lot. Don’t let that get in the way of us becoming friends! Thanks for seeing me off! Next time, let’s really sit down and talk!”
Machi serves as the treasurer of the student council during Yuki Sohma’s presidency. She is depicted as a very quiet, nearly emotionless girl with an occasional destructive behavior due to hating anything that is considered too perfect. This stems from her past, as she was immensely pressured by her mother to become perfect in every single aspect, and then thrown away when she was no longer needed.
"Nothing’s changed since then. But him…he’s changed, little by little. It looked to me like the more he was treated like a “Prince”, the more the loneliness ate away at him. But now it seems he smiles because he’s actually enjoying himself. He’s changing. I’m positive.”
"I never thought I’d be praised. I never thought that day would come. I’m imperfect, warped, defective…and yet here is someone who’s praising me.”
" I wanted to thank Honda-senpai. I know it’s none of my business, and I know I’m butting in, but…I’m just so happy that someone like you exists in this world. So if she’s been protecting you, then I’m grateful. After all, even if you really are weak, like a fawn, I think that’s why you were able to notice someone like me. That’s why you talked to me. You’ve been there for me, President. You have no idea how much that means to me!"
She is one of Tohru Honda's best friends. A former gang member who joined an all-girls gang called ”The Ladies” in fifth grade, Arisa idolized Kyoko Honda's reputation from her gang days. When she personally met Kyoko and Tohru in middle school, she was shocked by Kyoko's change from a gang-leader into a doting mother. However, they became friends after Kyoko helped her escape from her gang. With her other best friend Saki Hanajima, Arisa swore on Kyoko's grave to look after Tohru, and in their "parental" protection of Tohru, noted by Kyo Sohma and Yuki Sohma, Arisa is depicted as the brash and direct father-figure.
“Hey, don't pick a fight over something stupid just 'cause your ego got bruised.”
“Hey, don't actually do the wave thing, Hanajima.”
“Come on carrots, I don't get what you are so embarrassed about. It's not like I'm asking you to pick up panties for her or something. Jeez.”
Ayame is the Snake of the Chinese Zodiac and one of the oldest members of the Cursed Sohmas. He is best friends with Hatori Sohma and Shigure Sohma, and the three of them make up the Mabudachi Trio. Unlike his brother, Ayame is extremely vivacious, flamboyant, confident, and self-centered. He is absolutely obsessed with gaining Yuki's love, as he realized his mistakes of completely ignoring Yuki and denying him support in their childhood. As the series progresses, Yuki gradually accepts Ayame as a brother and even tries to understand him.
My beloved younger brother has also acquired this skill! Naturally, I sent him a celebratory bouquet!”
“Strangely enough, when you get older, the things you didn’t understand when you were a child… start to make sense. “When this happened, I should have done that.” “When that happened, I should have said this.” Those types of things. You start to understand rather than regret. It may be closer to repentance. So it may be that I do want to repent and erase the ignorant self from my childhood. Maybe that’s what they mean when they say adults are selfish.”
