Edelgard holds herself with a dignified air, but full of melancholy and solemn wistfulness. As heir of the Adrestian Empire, she is an exemplary student and a natural leader. She keeps a modest front, rarely cutting loose and maintains formality. Her colleagues express great surprise whenever she does relax. While generally a private person, she does recognize the importance of her duties and expresses confidence and faith in the abilities of her allies.

She is a capable dancer, having taught Dimitri at a young age and has a talent for drawing portraits, though she is embarrassed to show them to others. She has a personal nickname, El, of whom she only allows very close individuals, namely family, to call her.

Though she tries to keep it a secret, Edelgard is deathly afraid of rats, as they remind her of a past she is uncomfortable with. She also fears the ocean since she cannot swim.

Hubert is immediately striking as threatening and sinister. His interactions with people outside of his trust appear consummately villainous; in keeping with this, he cannot support with any students outside of the Black Eagles. However, his grave demeanor and ominous eloquence belie his intentions.

Hubert has been a stalwart servant to Edelgard since childhood and maintains undying loyalty to her. He takes House Vestra's vassalage to House Hresvelg with immense pride, and acts based on his interpretation who benefits Edelgard and the Empire at heart, even threatening Byleth and Shamir in his supports with them, believing them to be potential threats in the future. Hubert's willingness to carry out gruesome orders and use underhanded methods puts him at odds with Ferdinand. Where Hubert will quietly subvert orders he disagrees with, Ferdinand believes a good advisor is one who openly confronts and challenges others to be better. Despite this, the two respect each other for their respective roles to serve Edelgard.

Ferdinand is a confident and proud noble that hates losing. He is fiercely competitive, in particular with Edelgard. He strives to be Edelgard's better, as he believes that will prove his worth as a capable prime minister to assist her in her rule as Emperor. Over time, however, Ferdinand comes to accept that Edelgard is and always will be better no matter how much effort he applies. While saddened at this, he does not let it discourage him and wishes to continue improving for his own sake.

He does not have a high opinion on his father; although he values the hard work he does as Prime Minister (even stating that it was a shame he was stripped of his title), he does not agree with his father's views, finding it to be disgraceful. In one of his conversations with Lorenz, he believes that they should cross the threshold and see life from a commoner's perspective, as many nobles and commoners have distorted views of one another. However, as while he will readily admit his father is greedy and arrogant and deserved to die, he's also conflicted with Edelgard imprisoning him after she becomes empress and mourns his death.

Hating constraints and loving his freedom, Linhardt does his best to avoid worries and problems, often idling about lazily in non-essential activities such as fishing, sleeping or idle conversations. Although extremely intelligent, his laziness means that he refuses to use his knowledge for practical purposes unless it benefits him. Despite this, he does genuinely care for others and considers himself to be the worker when everyone else is asleep.

Despite being the heir to House Hevring, Linhardt has little care for his own House. His laziness makes him considerably different from other nobles who believe they must exert themselves, as he states in a support conversation with Dorothea that pride means nothing to him, as it doesn't feed, clothe or shelter him. He generally cares little for gossip relating to him, although he does admit that he can't keep running away from them forever. In fact, in a majority of his endings, he abandons his claim to House Hevring to live a life of his own.

Caspar leads a life bound to his strong sense of justice and loves getting into fights. He is a "punch first, apologize later" sort of individual when it comes to conflict. He hates lies and unfair treatment, and overall has a very honest and unrestrained personality. His hotheadedness often gets him into trouble and at times causes inconvenience to others, failing to consider their feelings, such as "kidnapping" Bernadetta to bring her to a secret location that he knew she would like, but failed to account for her feelings. His simple-minded outlook on life also causes him to miss subtle romantic cues in many of his A-Supports with women, instead taking them at face value.

As a crestless noble and second son to succession, Caspar is far different from most Fódlan nobles. He developed a instinctual need for competition as he was often overshadowed and sometimes outright ignored by his family due to his older brother's accomplishments and his father's status as a war hero. At times, he is grateful that he is not the one to succeed House Bergliez as he can live a life he desires unbound from the trappings of nobility.

Bernadetta is a skittish, timid, and reclusive girl, a result mostly because of the suffering she endured at the hands of her father for years. Her father, obsessed with money, only saw Bernadetta as Crest-bearing bait for a rich husband instead of his daughter. To that end, he subjected her to years of "training", which included tying her to a chair and leaving her there all day, challenging her to stay quiet. This sustained mental torture badly affected Bernadetta in many ways and developed her deep-seated fear of her father, other people, and basically everything in general.

Bernadetta suffers from a persecution complex: false beliefs or perceptions in which a person believes that they are treated with malicious intent, hostility, or harassment, hence the name of her personal skill, and she suffers from a compulsive need to run and hide whenever possible. She deeply fears other people and it is extremely difficult for her to trust them, even if they show her patience and kindness. It is common for her to fall into extreme panic and anxiety just by having someone approach her to talk, as she often thinks that people want to kill her. She can be so absorbed by her fears that she can freeze on the spot, lose all sense of her surroundings and, in extreme cases, faint, as shown with Hubert. She often jumps to delusional conclusions about what people think of her, and she can even be suspicious of honest compliments, such as when Linhardt complimented her lifestyle. As her outbursts usually only serve to annoy the other person, combined with her low self-esteem, it often results in her apologizing for things she did not do and insulting herself in the process.

A natural performer, Dorothea enjoys all forms of performing arts from acting to music, but has a particular affinity for singing as she was once a songstress. She is flirtatious, and has a habit of flirting with people out of belief that she needs to find someone to provide her a comfortable life, before her beauty and voice fade away and cause others to lose interest in her. She thinks this way because she is terrified with the prospect of returning to live in the streets.

Despite being the only person of common heritage among the Black Eagles, she tries to meet everyone as equals. However, she holds resentment towards those of nobility because of the classist treatment she received from nobles during her childhood and throughout, on occasion remarking how they only seemed to care about her after she became famous. Objectification on stage by the rich, added with her poor childhood, resulted in her developing self esteem issues on par with her outgoing personality. Nonetheless, she is readily confident in her ability to strike back against men who make attempts on her life and her friends, as stated in a support with Bernadetta. All but similarly to Mercedes, she openly and immediately expresses her dislike of Lorenz in their very first support conversation due to his elitist views. While she never ascribes such attitudes to all nobility, she finds it difficult not to, leading to cases of suspicion and judgment, as seen in her supports with Ferdinand. 

A political hostage of the Adrestian Empire and native of Brigid, Petra is a highly intelligent, capable girl among her fellow students. Because of her foreign origins, she is not a native speaker of the Fódlan language and makes slight grammatical errors, but still wants to learn more. She is unaware of Fódlan colloquial speech and will often take idioms and figures of speech by their literal meanings. She does not like the fact that Brigid is a vassal state and that she is being used as a hostage to blackmail the kingdom into submission, and so she tirelessly works to improve herself in every way possible in hopes of one day forcing the Empire to recognize Brigid as an equal. This work ethic was praised by many of her peers. Her dislike of her and her country's position does not extend to the people she knows personally and she is good friends with most of her classmates. She's calm most of the times, and rarely, if ever, loses her patience. Dorothea, in her C-support with Petra, says that Petra is the princess that every little girl wants to be.

Dimitri is a sincere young man who seems like the embodiment of chivalry, but a shade of darkness lies beneath his cheerful demeanor. Despite being a royal, he dislikes formality and pretentiousness, preferring his allies to be frank. Dimitri is sensitive.

Dimitri has a strange sense of humor, which is evident by his fondness for Alois's corny jokes. By his own admission, he finds them humorous precisely because they are terrible. His personality is nearly identical to his stepmother Patricia. According to Hapi, there is an uncanny resemblance in the way they interact with people and show anger. He enjoys combat training, weapon repair, and long rides but dislikes fragile objects and delicate work as he is unable to control his prodigious strength. Despite this, he is agile and became a capable dancer under Edelgard's tutelage. Like Edelgard, he is uncomfortable with scorching heat.

With a stern face and stoic demeanor that belies a calm, gentle man, Dedue is of few words, rarely speaking out unless spoken to, but is polite and understanding of others. Due to his background from Duscur, he is used to the disdain many people have towards him, and is generally unfazed by their words. During his supports with Ingrid, when she realizes that he is not the evil person of Duscur she had thought him to be and asks why he didn't speak out, Dedue in turn states that he does not know the full details behind the Tragedy, and even states that while Duscur had both good and bad people just like anywhere else, some of them may have been involved in the plot, and as such, that her beliefs may or may not have truth to them. He also warns Byleth to avoid associating too closely to him, especially during ominous events such as Flayn's kidnapping or when rumors of an assassination plot arose.

Presenting himself as a sharp-tongued lone wolf, Felix is extremely devoted to honing his swordsmanship that he will immediately challenge any strong person he meets to a duel.

This desire stems from when he first wielded a sword and practiced with Glenn; although he never won, he swore to surpass his brother. Following Glenn's death however, he felt as if he was fighting a corpse, but still vowed to continue in his pursuit of strength. He respects a worthy opponent/partner, as shown in his supports with Byleth where he admires their skill, vowing to surpass them in the future. Should he obtain an S-Support with female Byleth, he admits that without her, his swordsmanship would falter, though he also makes it clear that he has feelings for her.

Caring for his friends and admired as an older brother figure in his class, Sylvain is a perpetual skirt-chaser and often attempts to woo women with sweet words to a fault, with the most notable example including Ingrid's grandmother when he was only eight. He is fond of women but his easygoing, shallow, womanizing behavior stems from the fact that he feels unable to form proper romances, and so he dates around without any particular commitment. Despite his light-hearted manner, he is often inconsiderate with his words around women, which cause him unintentional harm - even admitting in a support with Ingrid that the truth hurts. This builds up unintentional notoriety on himself, such as Flayn avoiding him for that exact reason, even though he wanted to pass her a message from Byleth.

As the game progresses, Sylvain decides to make a change for himself by being who he is, and not what his Crest dictates him to be. Due to his philandering, his proposals are often met with skepticism, which in turn prompts him to provide proof that he intends to turn a new leaf. In his married endings, Sylvain treats all of his children with equal respect, regardless if they bore Crests or not.

Annette is a cheerful and hardworking girl, naturally achieving top marks in the academy. However, outside of her academic pursuits, she often will make missteps along the way that leads to nowhere and often to failure. Nevertheless, she maintains an air of positivity and is usually the one to raise the spirits of her classmates in dour situations.

Annette has an interest in cooking and looks forward to opportunities to be in the kitchen. When she cooks, mayhem ensues with huge messes and sometimes small explosions, though none are harmed. Privately, she adores eating, especially sweets, and loves to compose and sing cute songs, but is usually embarrassed when others catch her in the act. Mercedes is her best friend since their days at the School of Sorcery and is highly protective of her. She has a fondness for her sweets in particular.

Ingrid aspires to be an ideal knight which is reflected in her principled and industrious nature. Dimitri himself claims that "she is more knightly than most knights." She is hardworking and is constantly training herself to become an ideal knight and would rather be on the front lines of battle than be a housewife. She is unfamiliar with more domestic and everyday pursuits (and is shy about dressing up or putting on makeup even when told she is attractive), but is a decent cook. Despite her overall seriousness and no-nonsense attitude, she will often lose herself when in the presence of delicious food.

Claude is described as easygoing at the surface, but has a side that forces others to keep their guard around him. His introduction to Byleth at the Officers Academy emphasizes this as he refrains from divulging his potential professor any information about himself to give himself a "sense of mystery" and to entice them to choose his house in order to get to know him better. While appearing lazy and casual, he is far more astute than he lets on and is always a few steps ahead of his peers during conversations.

He tends to get along with those he interacts with, but his nonchalant attitude to his duties as heir to the Leicester Alliance seems at odds with each other and sometimes frustrates his fellow nobility classmates, namely Lorenz. Despite this, he has a wealth of knowledge of the Alliance's current state of affairs and has enough diplomatic sense to understand the ramifications of certain potential actions of Alliance against the neighboring country of Almyra.

Lorenz takes great pride in being a member of the nobility and seems to flaunt his status. He unintentionally comes off as snobby and pretentious regarding the social divide, as he often comments on his own fine breeding and refined sense of grace from being a noble. Though he is obsessed with status, his pride is not to be confused with superiority; he will help out any of his classmates, common or noble, in times of need without question or hesitation, even though he will likely make mention of their social status when it was unwarranted or irrelevant.

Friendly, optimistic, and straightforward, Raphael is a simple man who lives life day-by-day in a casual, easygoing manner. Despite the tragedy of his parents' death, he has maintained his cheerful demeanor. His main aspirations are to become a knight and will do anything to become one. As a result, he is highly impressionable to people who claim that simple matters will lead him to knighthood, such as improving his manners because Ingrid mentioned that knights must be clean and tidy.

A kind and optimistic boy, Ignatz cares a great deal for his family and honors his father's wish to become a knight. Though he respects his father, he dislikes the fact that he has been railroaded since he feels that he is unsuited to become one. Nevertheless, his optimism is never dampened and is easily motivated when given praise and support.

Ignatz has a passion for the arts and is a guilty pleasure of sorts to him as he often sneaks away and tries to pursue this passion in secret, feeling that it is unbecoming of a knight. He can be extremely lively when allowed to pursue this passion or when others express admiration in his skills, though he keeps a modest front in regards to his art.

Though hailed as a prodigy, Lysithea is in truth an exceptionally hardworking student who desires to learn every day to improve herself to the maximum of her abilities. She states her skills do not come from a natural talent, but merely determination and intense application and dislikes when people refer to her aptitude as merely a natural talent. She seeks to develop her skills as a form of independence so she no longer has to burden her parents, whom she loves dearly.

Marianne has low self-esteem and is bleakly pessimistic. She actively avoids most people as she fears that her presence will bring them misfortune. She often finds it hard to talk to others as a result and has spoken so infrequently that there are many students who have never heard the sound of her voice before. Even if she does speak, she is hesitant to express herself or her opinions, tending to speak in short statements and will try to detach from the conversation as quickly as she can. Marianne's speech is frequently punctuated by sheepish "um"s and "I'm sorry"s. She is soft-spoken, but also polite and tries to avoid inconveniencing people even in a minor manner. However, her self-deprecation sometimes makes people angry at her, especially short-tempered ones like Leonie.

Hilda is spoiled and lazy, which is attributed to her upbringing as the sole daughter and youngest child of a noble. She will often make excuses to opt out of any strenuous work or simply avoid doing things she does not want to. She is rather adept at manipulating others into doing her chores for her. She does this by not directly asking people to help her, and describes this habit herself as drawing attention to her wants and letting people address them on their own. Her laziness stems from her brother Holst, as he had set such a perfect example that Hilda believes that anything she does will only cause disappointment.

Deeply indebted to her home village, Leonie diligently trains every day to make them proud and lives modestly. Her goal is to eventually become a mercenary so she can return the favor to her village.

When an incident during her childhood left her small village suffering from poachers, Jeralt and his band of mercenaries appeared to fight them off. His act of heroism inspired the young Leonie to dream of one day becoming a great mercenary as well. Due to this, Leonie seems to idealize Jeralt, often referencing him or espousing teachings from the time he spent in her village. She considers herself his "first and only apprentice," and takes great pride in the fact that Jeralt saw potential in her. Leonie also appears to be rather competitive when interacting with Byleth, and considers them a potential rival. This is due to the fact that they are Jeralt's child. Leonie appears to envy Byleth for being the child of her hero.
