Fiction Podcast - All Roles!
Project Overview
INTRO
Hi folks! This is a casting call for season 1 of two new fiction podcasts. The Secret of Vod and The Iron Oath. We are producing two podcasts featuring thought-provoking stories with darker elements.
We are casting for all roles, from lead to background voices. Lead and main cast will need to make a commitment through the entirety of the season. All roles are in English, but folks who are not native English speakers are welcomed to audition. We have plenty of diverse roles to fill!
Roles are paid for by a profit split. More information on that if you get cast. You have full access to a transparent financial disclosure document. There will never be a question about what or how you get paid.
TO AUDITION
Please make sure you have a good quaity microphone. Auditions with poor quality, feedback, and background noise will not be considered.
WHAT TO EXPECT IF YOU ARE CAST
Expect to use Discord at least once a week. Our communication with the cast is done via Discord. We're a family type group, with folks who have been working together for years. Feel free to jump in, become part of the group, and help each other grow.

Lark Wilhelm is a young woman in her early 20s. She is focused on one thing -- getting her dad out of the dangerous place of Cael City. Lark's background is a sad one, and it weighs on her. She is a lead role in our new fiction podcast, The Secret of Vod. The role of Lark will require a commitment for a whole season!
No, I don’t want to work for Havisham Enterprises. I want to work somewhere that makes more money than Sam can ever pay me. The starting pay at Morningstar Terrace is twenty bits an hour. Twenty.
They look great after you put that new color on them. Which reminds me, can you come check on dad’s hand? It’s malfunctioning again.
As soon as I can. That’s why I need this job, Remi. If I can make twenty an hour, we can move. There are towns bordering every forest and coast. Towns where Vod isn’t a problem. Towns where dad can finally recover, and I can take care of both of us while he gets on his feet.
Sayuri Nakama is a supporting/main role in our new podcast, The Secret of Vod. Sayuri is a Japanese-American born in the United States. Given the nature of this fictional future, Sayuri is able to have a North American accent or a native speaker accent. Please, do not bring an anime voice for Sayuri! She is young, bubbly, and the voice of reason for the group. The role of Sayuri requires a commitment for a whole season!
Morningstar…? Wait, isn’t that place run by Lawrence Havisham?
I would Remi, but the Magi pay better. Lark’s a manager at Sam’s. She’ll never make anymore money. As sweet as Sam is, I can’t ask her to work there if she’s being offered twenty bits an hour.
(chuckles) I know, Joe. You'd marry me if you were younger. You always say that.
Fiona is a minor role appearing in a few episodes. She is a rather uptight adult female managing a restaurant. Age and ethnicity for Fiona is not important.
Indeed. I can’t say I care for overly fried food.
I see. (pause) I’m Fiona. The general manager. You are aware this is a waitress position, right?
Well, Lark. I can’t see any reason not to hire you. No record, a degree, a full primary education, and no visible metal. You’re a prime candidate to work for us.
Alex is a small role, appearing only in a couple of episodes. Alex can be any gender, and any accent. They are a co worker of Lark's who can also be any age.
Hey. I know you. You used to work at Sam's, didn't you?
(emotional) I'm sorry! I didn't mean to break down. It's just...I've seen the effects of Vod. I lost my cousin last month to it. And this...
Stranger 1 is an extra role appearing in episode 1. The person can be any gender or age. They are wasted on a fictional drug and should sound like it.
(very high on a drug) Stella...? You're so beautiful.
(still wasted) Come on Stella...let's go swimming!
Margot Pryor is a recurring character through season 1. She is a younger woman in her 20's-30s. She can be any ethnicity or background. Margot is a well spoken and direct woman who can snap at a moment's notice. Needless to say, her emotional state is not stable. The role of Margot requires a commitment for the entire season!
Oh, sorry! I didn't mean to sneak up on you like that! I thought you were someone else.
(sympathetic) I understand wanting to leave. Disappear into the forests and take your chances with whatever mutated beasts live there. Believe me, I know how that feels. It’s like something is pulling from inside for a change. That change won’t come if you run away from the problem, Lark. You have to face it head on. It follows you if you don’t. It does get better. I promise.
(angry) You will take care of it! And I mean now! I want no mistakes on that shipment. None at all. Otherwise, your job will be gone and your head will roll. I'd like to see how you feed your family when you're unemployed!
A robot briefly appearing in one episode. Effects will be added to your voice.
State your name and allow me to scan your ID chip.
A kid or a young teenager who lost their ball. A very brief background role.
Hey! Over here!
Whoa. A Tex? Here? Cool!
Jack is a chef who is a jovial man. He appears in two episodes and has very few lines.
Hey! Hand me that bowl, will you? Then, stir the batter until I say stop.
(chuckles) I cook for my wife and kids every night. They love it.
A Paramedic who arrives on scene in one episode.
Patient's name?
Hey! Can you hear me? Hey! (pauses) I need permission to give them a dose of Ethinodrine (pronounced Eth-in-oh-dray-n)
Barry is a man in his 20s-30s. He is Margot's husband and a very savvy businessman. He's well spoken and well educated with a bit of a darker side to him. Barry is a recurring role through season 1. The role of Barry requires a commitment for the whole season!
It is wonderful to meet you. Margot told me all about you. Now, sit down and tell me everything about how you both met. I want the entire story!
(upset) I don't care what you do! I want that man arrested, now! He has Vod covering everything!
Oh dear. I've made a mistake I'm afraid. I am sorry.
Beth is a woman in her 20s-30s. She is soft spoken and very flirtatious. There's an air of seduction surrounding her, and sometimes she can be taken the wrong way. Beth is a recurring role that will last through season 1 and 2. The role of Beth requires a commitment for the entire season!
Am I flirting with you? Not yet. I could be if you asked nicely.
(emotional) I don't understand! We've been fighting this for years, and it never goes away. Every time one is arrested, two more show up at the same corner. It's like we are always fighting a losing battle!
Oh, honey. You have no idea who you are talking to or what I am capable of. A Magi like me going against someone like you? It's laughable.
Wren Hoffman is the lead role in our fiction podcast The Iron Oath. Wren is a woman in her 20s/early 30s who lives her life for her work. She's a professional with a slightly snarky attitude, and needs to really pack an emotional punch when appropriate. This role requires a commitment for an entire season!
(Exasperated) Let me guess. You expect Druids to wear loin cloths, dance around burning a wickerman, then casting spells, right? But, we don't, do we? Because we're Human. Except...you don't think we're Human.
(Being professional) "Look, I can't tell you what I saw because I didn't see anything. Why don't I call you later, Mister DiVotti? We'll talk."
(Emotional) "How could I let this happen? How could I not have seen...!"
An emergency operator who takes a call in one episode. The person must have some compassion in their voice.
Cael (pronounced like kale) City emergencies. Tex district. Do you require police, ambulance or fire?
Miss Wilhelm? Do you need additional emotional support?
Harken Vargas is a man in his mid to late twenties. He is the heir of a huge fortune, and an even bigger corporation. A magic user, who is used to a life of luxury. Harken is well spoken, well mannered and proper. The role of Harken requires a commitment for the entire season!
Stop calling me Mister Havisham! That is my father's name. My mother insisted I have her last name. My name is Harken Vargas. Get it right!
I don't see the problem with this tattoo. A simple illusion can cover it. Here, give me your hand.
(upset) Oh, stop it! You've had a vendetta against father since day one! Now you have come into my home and interrupted my party. Why? So you can prove something. Something I'm not doing! I have had enough. Leave. Now.
Joe Wilhelm is a middle aged man in his mid 40s/early 50s. His daughter, Lark, is the main character of the show. Joe is a man who is down on his luck, and depression has taken him. He tries to be a good father, but usually fails at it. The role of Joe requires a whole season commitment!
I don't know. I got it (pause) a...uh...a while back.
You can't help but love me. I'm an adorable old grump.
Hey, Lark! I know you're grown but I'm about to be your dad. (Pause) Get to bed. You've got a big day tomorrow.
Remi Murphy is a supporting/lead role in our new fiction podcast The Secret of Vod. He is a cybernetically enhanced human who was born in the United States. Remi is a little rough around the edges, a lot sarcastic, and the glue that holds his group together. The role of Remi requires a commitment for a whole season!
(eating) We’re not here to enjoy the atmosphere. What’s the big news, Lark?
(aggravated) What? You do! They started building that resort just outside of the city limits. Right before you get to the forests. It happened to be the only place you went to when you wanted to be alone. Suddenly, you go and there’s a big Havisham sign blocking your precious tuft of grass. There’s not even any grass anymore, is there? Just another luxury space built by Lawrence Havisham himself. Aren’t we lucky?
We got a few more last month. That’s a total of eighteen now. Eighteen of us free and clear from Vod. (pause) That’s not enough, though.
