Project Overview

“Starlight. It’s the story of goddesses drawn by the glow of the heavens"
~ Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight, Episode 1

At the Seisho Music Academy, the 99th Graduating Class prepares for the annual production of the musical stage play, Starlight. Behind the scenes, nine girls compete against one another in elaborate stage battles to obtain the title of Top Star. The winner earns the right to stand brightly on her desired stage. Based on the stage play of the same name, this anime series follows the cast as they struggle against their friends on their way to the top.

Thank you for showing interest in this project! We are looking for a full cast of singers to fill the roles of the nine main characters in an English cover of the anime's opening theme, "Hoshi no Dialogue." Successful candidates will be strong vocalists capable of capturing the personality of their respective characters. Your hosts, June and Mathew, will be writing an English adaptation of the song. Mathew will be the mixer and the final product will be uploaded to June's Youtube channel.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~General Requirements~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. Professionalism - participants shall respect deadlines and respect the group
2. Communication - participants shall join the Discord Server which will serve as the organizational hub for the project
3. Audio Quality - participants should have good recording quality (typically requiring a USB or XLR microphone setup with consideration for background noise and room acoustics)


~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Audition Requirements~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. Auditions must not contain effects (including but not limited to reverb, pitch correction, Auto-Tune)
2. Auditions must be free of distortion (including frequent and/or excessive clipping)
3. Auditions must be acapella 
4. Auditions should begin with a one-sentence self-introduction that states your name or alias and how you heard of this project

    Congratulations to the 8 vocalists who have been cast for their respective roles. At this point, the role of Kaoruko remains open. I am keeping the casting call open. To keep the project moving forward in a timely manner, Kaoruko will be cast on a **rolling basis** What this means is that as soon as an suitable audition for Kaoruko is found, I will be reaching out to the candidate. This also means that there is no firm deadline. I look forward to the completion of this project!

    Thank you again to everyone who has auditioned! Now that the deadline has passed, June and I will be reviewing all auditions. Our goal is to contact successful applicants by December 14. We appreciate your patience during this casting period.

    Thank you again, everyone, for all your interest and for the amazing auditions. We are down to the final week. As a reminder, we will be waiting until the end of the casting call period before casting any roles. Also, a reminder that one of the requirements is good audio quality, which includes being "free of distrotion / clipping" I strongly recommend you ask an audio friend about what that is, what it sounds like, and how to avoid it if you are not already familiar with this concept. She is an energetic girl who inspires the rest of the cast with her determination and growth. Her singing voice is youthful, bright, and, despite a bit of a nasal character, clear.

Karen's childhood friend, Hikari transfers to Seishou Academy after experiencing the pain of the Auditions in London. Her calm and mature exterior hides a deep desire to protect her friend. In that regard, her warm singing voice has a reserved strength that proves to be very expressive.

Going by the nickname "Banana", Nana's sweet and caring nature stands in contrast to her intense ability on stage. Unbeknownst to the rest of the 99th Class, she has been holding the Top Star title in a series of time loops in order to relive her most precious memory: their rendition of Starlight at the end of their their first year. When performing alongside her friends, Nana's singing voice is clear, cheerful and gentle. When in competition, her voice takes on intensity and power without being extravagant or showy.

Born to a family with a long history in traditional Japanese dance, Kaoruko is a stubborn individual who once ran away from home, needing her best friend Futaba to retrieve her. She is ambitious but heavily dependent on Futaba to the point of conflict. Her high singing voice is playful and feminine with frequent use of vibrato.

Kaoruko's childhood friend, Futaba is frank, down-to-earth and at times rebellious. After the two of them enter an argument, Futaba easily overpowers Kaoruko in an Audition, showing the fruits of her hard labor while Kaoruko lazed around. Futaba's singing voice has a deeper, boyish tone characterized by confidence and power.

Hailing from a small town in Hokkaido, Mahiru joins Seisho at the encouragement of her grandmother. She is quickly outshone by her classmates and, forgetting her own desire to shine, latches onto Karen. When their friendship is disrupted by the arrival of Hikari, Mahiru faces her poor confidence in an audition against Karen and is reminded of her original desire to make her loved ones smile. Mahiru's singing voice is bright and strong but also very young and girlish.
