Project Overview

Hey, guys! 


So, this is going to mostly be a proof of concept for a novel, whose working title is Dust, that I am currently writing. At the moment, I only plan on recording the first chapter, but, as I complete the book, I may want to continue with the rest of the chapters, just depending on how it goes. Now, if we do end up completing a full audiobook, I would like to sell it, so all of you who get a part will receive a payment, but we'll talk about that when/if that happens.

Added some pics to give you an idea as to what they look like, I still need to do one for Tam, and I plan on finishing the colours by next week.  I love all of the auditions so far! You guys are awesome!

  • Dust Update -- One More Week!

    Hey guys! 


    Just wanted to let you know that there is less than one week until auditions are over! I've got the script all ready, so I'll be able to send the first chapter to those who are cast as soon as they are ready for it.  Since auditions close on the 9th, and I'll be at ECCC on the 10th, I'll try to have the cast set by the 12th, so look out for that=D  I definitely want to get the script out to everyone by the 14th because I'll be in Tennessee on the 15th and I'd like to get the project in place before all that.  You are all super awesome and I want to thank you all for bringing my characters to life, it means so much to me!

  • Dust Update -- Deadline Change

    Hey guys!


    Since there's been a drop in auditions and I've already heard some amazing voices for my characters, I'm going to bump the deadline forward to April 9th.  If you have any questions or problems with this, let me know, but I really just wanna get this project started=D

  • Dust Update -- Y'all are AWESOME!

    So far, I've received 60 (including the BTVA ones) amazing auditions for this project! I have no idea how I'm going to choose between you guys,but I'm so stoked to get this project rolling! 

    I'm about halfway done with re-writing the prose into a script for you all and I'm really liking how it's coming along. 

    That's really all I have to say, but I may end up making the deadline sooner, we'll see =D

Deryn is Jude's younger sister, though she is, arguably, the more mature one. She's very practical and she thinks everything through before making any rash decisions (most of the time). You do not want to get on her bad side, but she is very caring and protective of those who gain her trust, especially Tam.

  • "No, he wouldn't have gone that far, he knows better by now." (She's in deep thought, trying to figure out where her brother went)

  • (excited and relieved) "Jude! I'm so glad you're safe!" (pauses and becomes upset) "What were you thinking? You could have been killed!"

  • "Thanks Ralphie, for protecting my big, dumb, idiot brother from the Apparitors!" (She's talking to a dog, so do your dog/baby voice here =D)

Kiran is the main character of this story, and he's got a lot going on. He's made a living off of pick-pocketing, but he has tried to be more honest since he and his sister were taken in by a group young adults. He's been through a lot of heartache, but he tries to keep a smile on his face for the sake of his younger sister. Have fun with his voice, but also know that he has moments of seriousness that need to be full of emotion.

  • "Yeah, yeah, shut your trap, Jude. It's been a long day, I don't need any of your snarky remarks." (This is not said in a bitter way, it's more playful, and he was just running so he is tired.)

  • "So, what if we were able to find the other half of the key? We'd be able to get into the Stronghold, right?" (He's dropped his playfulness at this point, it's all business now.)

  • "Woah, woah, woah! You were just getting all over me for almost missing curfew. Right now, it's," (pause) "ten minutes 'til curfew and you're going for a walk?"

Tam is the level-headed one of the group. He's got very little stake in the rebellion, but he wants to protect anyone he can. He speaks softly but firmly, always trying to keep the peace. He sees Kiran as a little brother and Jude as a sort of partner in crime.

  • "About time you got back; it's almost curfew." (He's relieved that Kiran is safely home, no trace of bitterness.)

  • "It's not a good idea, you know that, right?" (He's worried, he doesn't want Jude to get hurt.)

  • “We’ll figure this one out, just give it time.” (pause) “You want anything to drink?” (comforting Kiran)

Doesn't really have a set voice in mind, so just try your best narrate-y voice =D  Make sure you really capture the feel of the story and have fun!

  • "Rain pounded Kiran's face as he rounded the final corner at top speed."

  • "They sat in silence for a few minutes, trying to run through the events of the day. If it was true what Jude had said about the key, Kiran could soon have bands of Apparitors trying to hunt him down."

  • "There had been a few minor breakthroughs; a prison break or two, some intercepted information, and now, half of a key. But half of a key doesn’t open a door."

Rosa is Kiran's little sister who is extremely fragile because of her several medical problems. She is soft spoken, but is very determined to not be a burden to the rest of the group. She get upset when Kiran doesn't allow her to accompany them on their missions. Rosa looks up to Deryn because she sees her as the epitome of strength and confidence.

  • "Kiran, stop yelling, you're waking everyone up." (It's 2 in the morning and Kiran has just discovered that Jude never came home so her voice should sound drowsy.)

  • "You shouldn't have stayed out so late, Kiran was worried about you." (Quietly scolding Jude for not coming back on time.)

  • "I miss mom and dad, do you think they'll be alright?" (She frequently goes to Kiran for reassurance when she thinks of their parents - who had been taken by the Apparitors several months prior.)

Jude is a bit more edgy than the rest of the characters. He likes to push Kiran's buttons, but he regards Tam as a brother. His voice should be casual, almost to the point of sarcastic. Keep in mind that he may have ulterior motives for joining the resistance.

  • "Theoretically, but you can't just overlook the surveillance and security that's rigged around the place." (They're casually talking strategy.)

  • "In the meantime," (stretching) "I'm gonna go for a walk."

  • "I'll be fine, Tam, I can take care of myself. And plus, I'll have Ralphie with me." (Shrugging off the idea that he could be in any danger.)(Ralphie is a dog, by the way)
