Do You Recognize Me? (Giving Voices To Jane Does)

Do You Recognize Me? (Giving Voices To Jane Does)

Project Overview

I recently started a YouTube channel pertaining to forensics, unsolved cases, and true crime. For one of my first videos, I'm covering five (5) unsolved Jane Doe cases. "Jane Doe" is an alias given to an unidentified woman whose true identity remains unknown; she may have been a victim of foul play, succumbed to an injury or natural causes, etc.

The purpose of this project is to further humanize the Jane Does by giving them literal voices. The talent will read a script written as if the Doe is speaking directly to the viewer. As the Doe, you will provide a first-person narration of the case details. (For example: "I am the Goldsboro Jane Doe. I was found in 2002... etc.")

With this project, I am hoping to spread awareness in the hopes that someone out there will recognize these women. This video will be made with the most up-to-date, factual information. Once released, the proper resources and contacts will be listed for anyone who has any information or tips regarding the featured cases. I would like for the talent to remember that these Does were real people and not just "characters." Though we have yet to discover their true identities, they are still people and deserve to be represented and treated with respect.

Please note: some information regarding the case details of these Does may be upsetting so I advise you to audition with caution. (Nothing extremely graphic will be mentioned but I wanted to give a heads up due to some implications.)

Though not necessarily required, we would like to offer an opportunity for a Hispanic or biracial woman to contribute their voice to the Mecklenburg Doe (due to her estimated biological profile).

  • Due the seriousness of this case, we would like for you to read this in your natural voice/tone/dialect.
  • Please remember that the purpose of this project is to humanize the Jane Does and bring these unidentified women to life through voice acting; they are not just "characters."

  • [Read all of these lines as if you're having a natural conversation with someone, but at the same time you're informing them. Don't add too much emotion, but just enough to drive the point home that this is an unsolved case.]

I am the Mecklenburg County Jane Doe.

On March 17, 2011, my partial remains were discovered in a wooded area off of Statesville Road in Charlotte, North Carolina.

They estimated my weight as 110 pounds.

  • I had been wearing navy-colored boat shoes with a plaid pattern. Near my body was a black bra, a pair of blue jeans, and a white t-shirt that said, "Virginia Beach, Virginia."

Investigators are treating my death as a homicide.

  • It's believed that I was Caucasian or Hispanic. Some have speculated that I was biracial.

On August 24, 1982, my body was found inside a footlocker in Frederick, Maryland. I was murdered by an unknown assailant, who placed the footlocker a few feet off a gravel path in Gambrill State Park.

  • I was between 17 and 27 years old when I was murdered. Due to the condition of my remains, I may have been killed as early as the spring of 1982, but the investigators estimate that I could've died as far back as 1972.

  • There were signs of wear on my hip bones. This means I was very athletic when I was alive; I might've been a gymnast or a cheerleader. As a result, my hair was probably held back in ponytail on several occasions.

We are looking for a woman of color to audition for this role, as Goldsboro Jane Doe was a black woman. We feel that it would be appropriate and respectful to cast someone who is of similar profile to this Doe.

On June 8, 2002, my body was discovered in a shallow grave several hundred yards away from a set of railroad tracks in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Due the condition of my remains, my weight could not be determined.

I was between 35 and 45 years old when I passed away.

  • My cause of death remains undetermined.

  • I had been wearing a white bra and a cotton-blend dress. A black hair tie was on my left wrist.

There was a white metal ring on my finger with the word "INDIA" on the inside of the band.

We are interested in middle aged / older women auditioning for this role. With that being said, if you're able sound older (without it sounding forced or gimmicky) please feel free to audition.

[Please be aware that this specific role is going to talk about suicide.]

On December 18, 1996, I walked into the Pleasant Valley Memorial Cemetery in Annandale, Virginia and took my own life. Though I was found only a few hours later, and had a recognizable face, nobody was able to identify me.

I was believed to be between 50 to 70 years old.

  • I was found near an area of the cemetery that was known for burying deceased infants.

I was approximately 5 feet tall and weighed around 157 pounds.

  • I left a note, stating that I had perished by my own hands and I requested that an autopsy not be performed.

I was called "The Christmas Tree Lady" because a miniature Christmas tree was found near my body. I had brought it with me as means to celebrate a holiday that I wouldn't live to see.
