Despite The Odds is an original Gacha Club series. It is set in the Late 1800s-Early 1900s. The story revolves around 2 young teenage girls, Marjorie and Wilma. Marjorie is an upper class citizen. She finds herself struggling to act like a ‘proper lady.‘ She struggles in school, and finds herself unable to fulfill the gender roles that society has assigned to her. Wilma is a servant who lost her family at a young age. She has worked for Marjorie’s family for 4 years. The entire family, with the exception of Marjorie, torment her.
The girls become best friends, and they will struggle to find their identities. How will they escape the ’cage’ that society has put them in?
Requirements-
Everyone who auditions to be an animator WILL BE ACCEPTED. (If your audition meets our quality standards.)
We aim to release an episode every month. If you are casted, please stay committed.
You will be able to select which scene you animate. Most scenes are 1-3 minutes long, but others may be longer. The animation is purely stop-motion. There will be no tweening at all, so please keep that in mind. Also, do not have any watermarks.
Please include a 30 second+ (stop-motion) Gacha Club clip that you created independently.

Marjorie is 13-15 years old during the series. She is the 3rd oldest child in the Cox family. Her family puts a lot of pressure on her to act like a lady, but she fails to do so. She is the main protagonist, along with Wilma.

(Upset, sad) Mom, I really don’t want to just be someone’s wife. I am so much more than that. I want to be... (pause) I want to be the president of the United States! (pause) Or maybe a doctor, or a lawyer! Don’t you see? I can be so much more than just a wife!
(Happy) I’m happy that I’ve got you. All of my classmates think I’m weird, and my family is a bunch of goops. We should sneak out tomorrow night! Oh, it would be so grand! We shall talk about our lives. Oh, I‘m giddy just thinking about it!
She is 13-15 during the majority of the series. She is a servant for the Cox family. They treat her very poorly. Her only true friend is Marjorie.

Clarence is Marjorie’s father. He is kind, but he can be angry at times. He practices tough love as well, and tries to be a role model for his children.

(Angry) STOP ACTING LIKE A HOOLIGAN. YOU ARE A LADY, YOU MUST ACT LIKE IT. SET A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR YOUR SISTER.
(Sad) It was a hard decision to make, but we feel that it will be the best for you.
(Happy) It’s so marvelous to be together, one big happy family.
Lucille is Marjorie’s mother. She practices tough love. She is extremely ladylike, and gets extremely upset that Marjorie is not.

(Angry) You need to stop acting like a child. You are forbidden to be friends with the servant. Do you understand?
(Crying, happy) Oh, he’s perfect! Thank you, doctor! Bless you!
(Sad) It’s okay, darling. You’ll see us again soon.
Raymond is the eldest sibling in the Cox family. Raymond is always tormenting Marjorie and Wilma.

(Mean, Angry) WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME? IF YOU SAY ANYTHING LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN, I WILL HAVE YOU THROWN INTO THE STREET. UNDERSTAND?
(Laughing, cruel) Ha! Marjorie has marmalade in her hair! Marjorie Marmalade! (Laughs)
(Rude) Get out of my way, little girl. Let the man handle this.
Celine is the second oldest Cox sibling. She loves Marjorie, but is very tough on her. Celine is very proper and ladylike, and expects Marjorie to be the same. Her values are very old-fashioned.

(Annoyed) Marjorie, why can’t you act like a LADY? You are 13 years old. You need to start acting mature.
(Scared, Trying to calm Marjorie down) Marjorie, it’s okay. He just gets a bit angry sometimes, and that’s okay. You simply need to agree.
(Angry) YOU TWO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? MARJORIE, WHY ARE YOU SPENDING TIME WITH A SERVANT? SHE’S YOUR SERVANT, NOT YOUR FRIEND.
Genevieve is the 3rd youngest Cox sibling. She is kind of a brat, and likes to tattle on Marjorie. She loves Celine, and is always trying to do what she is doing.

(Accusatory) Hey, I saw you talking to Wilma! I’ll tell Mom and Dad!
(Crying) I-I’m sorry! Please stop yelling!
(Giggling) You didn’t finish your sewing! (giggles)
Bernard is a lot like Genevieve. He likes to tattle on Marjorie. He is mean to his sister, but still loves her.

(Giggling) Your dress looks silly! It has dirt all over it!
(Crying) D-Dad! She hit me!
(Evil, Happy) Dad wants to talk to you! *giggles*
Cora hangs out with Marjorie a lot. She is sometimes mean to Marjorie. Cora tries to be a proper lady. She is very critical of Marjorie. Marjorie doesn’t really like Cora, but her mother makes her be friends with Cora.

(Criticizing Marjorie) You know, Marjorie, you really shouldn’t be playing so much. You may rip your dress.
(Angry) What is SHE doing here? Shouldn’t she be cleaning?
(Happy) Wow! Celine, your dress is so beautiful!
Mrs. Wilson is Marjorie’s teacher at the Catholic school that she attends. She is kind, and likes to help her students.

(Annoyed) Girls, please stop talking.
(Scared) Get underneath your desks.
(Angry) If you don’t stop, I will not hesitate to call the principal.
This role is just for extra characters. I will be casting a lot of people for this role. We are looking for extras of all ages and genders. Please have an American accent, however, this story takes place in New Hampshire.
