Dawn to the Heir

Ryuji is one of the two main central characters of the story, a disgruntled, mentally drained, down-on-his-luck accountant who is the direct heir of the Hashimori Family Clan, yet no one ever respects him or acknowledges him. Even his own biological father barely even tries to give him even the slightest bit of care. Ryuji was originally planned and trained to fight in the war, but his training was cut at 6 years old due to his father setting him up for a less intense profession under accounting for the Hashimori Clan until he meets his arranged wife Fumiko, who barely even respects him either, yet he expects nothing less since he is used to being the blur in the background. He is usually quiet, reserved, formal and has decent manners to everyone around him, even if some don't even know his name. The only friend he has is a young teen girl who is like a younger sibling to him and the closest he has to family named Kana. They've come quite close since the first day they met and Kana even sees him as an older role model/older brother kind of figure, hence why he bothers even going in life.

He has an American accent, but a Japanese one is also acceptable.

The secondary central character of the story who is the arranged wife of Ryuji Hashimori, older by a few years and is cold, serious, stoic, brutally honest, and short tempered. Unlike Ryuji, she has been fighting and training in the war since even before Ryuji was born, conceived even. And because of her extremely harsh and brutal training, she has little to no room for mercy, even has taken lives during the war in cold blood, which include: Hashimori, Nakagawa mutineers, political officials, spies, bribers, and even innocent men, women and children weren't safe from her grasp, the latter being the ones she feels most internally guilt over. The Hashimori Nakagawa traitors of course got it the worst from her, since she would hold nothing back. One day, she meets a man Named Jirou who she falls in love with and become a couple in secret. However, Jirou began to show his true colors and the relationship eventually grew from strongly affectionate to outright toxic. Things escalate between them that Jirou takes his anger out on Fumiko, causing her to run away, for once fearing for her own life. And Like that, she never trusted love again, until she meets Ryuji, who since they're arranged, hates him but not only since cause he is Hashimori, but also not quite her taste.

A young teenage friend of Ryuji who serves as his emotional anchor throughout the two acts of the story, borderline the closest to true family either of them have for each other. She was found by and protected by Ryuji since they first met at a festival in a city. She was all alone, and Ryuji took her in as an unofficial registered member of the Hashimori. Her previous surname is not mentioned or documented, but never legally officially adopted the Hashimori name, so she remains as just Kana. She mainly serves a role as one of the young teenage maids in training. She was taken in reluctantly, but showed off her attending and instructional skills very well, so she was an exceptional staying member among them. She is a bubbly, encouraging figure to many of those around her and is very polite to her peers and grown-ups alike such as Ryuji as well as Fumiko, even if she and Kana never spoken often or formally. Since she behaves like a younger teenage accomplice to Ryuji, of course she would unsurprisingly have the personality of such a role, even annoying and teasing Ryuji from time to time, keeping their unique surrogate bond alive.

As the main head of the Hashimori, he is also the father of Ryuji and Father-in-law to his arranged Fumiko. He serves as a neglectful and dismissive father to Ryuji, and values his son's role as heir of the Hashimori rather than his son himself while favoring his more experienced siblings and his new wife over Ryuji. He still however, still tries to mentor Ryuji on how to manage his role as heir, but they both keep it professional despite the awkward relationship between them. He is energetic and charismatic in public, even well liked by other Nakagawa and Hashimori Political officials, including that of the current head of the Nakagawa, Shigamu Nakagawa. In private, he is calculated, reserved, quiet and strict to everyone around him. Ryuji sees him as unnecessarily arrogant and self-centered for a father, but keeps his thoughts to himself about his father like usual.

Shigamu is the father of Fumiko, and the head of the Nakagawa. He and the head of the Hashimori, Akare have a decent working relationship since him and Akare have worked together in private meetings for years to officially discuss peace talks and establishing the treaty officially. He, unlike Akare isn't as energetic, and minimal charisma since he mostly talks business and usually polite and formal to anyone he meets. He was once extremely strict and demanding in his younger years, especially with a much younger Fumiko with harsh discipline and training to prepare her for the war, however, after losing morale slowly overtime due to his declining health and age, he has grown much more somber internally, fearful and regretful for even letting Fumiko out in war. He and Fumiko made up over time in the later years of the war to catch up on lost time. Now that they are much closer than before, he now mentors her one last time to teach her how to properly claim title of heir.

Jirou serves as the main antagonist and former ex-partner from Fumiko's past. One whom she chooses to forget, until he returns back into her life, twisting the events of the story by attempting to sabotage the arranged marriage between Fumiko and Ryuji, wanting to regain Fumiko's trust so he can have power to himself and dominance over her to earn the respect of his underground clan that he joined shortly after his temporary departure from Fumiko's life. He is sly, connivingly arrogant, smug and holds grudges easily, thus when he catches onto Ryuji immediately, he is not very fond of him, let alone the marriage either, but masks it under his suave, secretive facade. Not much is really known about his younger years or his entire past other than that he had affiliation with the Hashimori that is revealed later on in the story and he had some involvement with the Clan family wars for some time but mainly just as Fumiko's ex-partner. 

A side character that doesn't play a full impact on the story but gives Ryuji some interesting advice at a point in the story. She is an elderly woman who servers as a voice of insight to Ryuji, almost as a temporary mentor for him for a brief moment during his trip to the library. Not much is entirely known about her, other than that she is the replacement for a previous librarian, leaving most of her story a mystery. Her voice is a tender and relatively quiet tone with a Japanese accent to it.
