Daniel Audio Bible Reading
Project Overview
READ BEFORE AUDITIONING
This casting call is for an unpaid dramatic audio reading of the first half of the book of Daniel (from the King James Bible), which will be uploaded to my YouTube channel. Just like my previous two bible readings, I’ll be doing the narration, and the voice of God will be done by Illya Leonov, and all other roles are available for audition (mostly male roles, one female role, and a few others that I’ll accept both male and female auditions for).
A couple of important notes:
01. This should go without saying, but since this is an audio adaptation of a bible story, I’m not looking for any blatantly cartoony voices for the roles, this doesn’t mean that I don’t want you to change your voice in any way for those who have such a talent (in fact I encourage those of you with this talent to try this for multiple roles), but nothing like an exaggerated high-pitched and raspy voice like Toad from the Super Mario series, or alien voices like Stitch from Lilo & Stitch, or Mickey-Mouse-type voices, or anything like that. I’m looking for voices that are more realistic, and whether you use your natural voice and/or change it to another voice that can sound realistic and convincing (like for older or younger characters), that’ll be great. After all, I will bring up voice suggestions in the descriptions of most of the roles. As for the voice suggestions themselves, that’s all they are at the end of the day: Suggestions. They’re not mandatory by any means for the roles I put them for, I just put them there to give an idea of what I’m looking for, and if you have another idea of what could work for certain roles, go ahead and be creative (just to reiterate, other than cartoony voices of course).
02. I’ll need each voice actors lines before 10-05. I appreciate everyones participation in this casting call, but please don’t audition if you won’t be able to meet the deadline, and be sure to keep an eye on the deadline, the casting call, and your PM inbox.

Alright, I've decided to cast a few of these roles to VAs who exclusively auditioned for them on my BehindTheVoiceActors version of this casting call, and one whom emailed me their auditions. More specifically: Simon DLSea as Daniel (young/old) and Shadrach, DerekVoices as King Nebuchadnezzar and King Belshazzar, Primanox007 as Prince Melzar, and Grace Herbertz as The Queen and the counselor. I've also decided to cast myself in two minor roles, and am approaching a couple of VA friends for the remaining minor roles.
The younger version of a prophet of God whom God uses to explain to people their unusual dreams. If you’re cast in the role, be ready to read a few long lines (about more than a page long for two of them).
Voice suggestions:
Any teenage or young adult tenor voice would suffice for the role, such as Mitchell Musso: https://youtu.be/fdZ-zIPz3Cg?t=19,
or Jack McBrayer: http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/movies/Wreck-It-Ralph/Fix-It-Felix/.
Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
Why is the decree so hasty from the king?
Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.
The older version of a prophet of God whom God uses to explain to people their unusual dreams, and at this point in his life, he gets persecuted and thrown in a lions den. The older version of Daniel only has two lines, both of which are down below (the first one is a shortened version of his first line).
Voice Suggestions:
I imagine elderly Daniel to have an authoritative baritone voice like Kenneth Mars: http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/movies/The-Little-Mermaid/King-Triton/,
or John Ingle: http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/movies/The-Land-Before-Time-XI-Invasion-of-the-Tinysauruses/Ceras-Dad/
(angry) Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

or Patton Oswalt: http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/movies/Ratatouille/Remy/
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
A king of Babylon who starts out evil, but eventually repents and turns to God. Just like young Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar has some long lines, so prepare for that if you’re cast in the role.

King Nebuchadnezzers captain who reveals Daniel to the king when he needs an interpretation of a dream he had. Captain Arioch has one line.

or John DiMaggio in numerous roles such as Hammerhead: http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/video-games/Spider-Man-Shattered-Dimensions/Hammerhead/

O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed: There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers; Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.

Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.
Chaldeans who are loyal to King Nebuchadnezzar, and these roles I’ll accept both male and female auditions for. I’ll leave these roles up to interpretation.
There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
A messenger of King Nebuchadnezzar who reveals the consequences of anyone who disobeys the kings orders to worship a false idol. I imagine the herald to have some kind of loud voice as he reads the kings message, and will leave it up to interpretation.
To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
