Danganronpa V3: 'the roles we (are meant to) play' Audiobook
Project Overview
Hello and welcome! The title is a bit vague, so allow me to explain in a bit more detail.
With the author's permission, I aim to create an audiobook version of the DRV3 fanfic, the roles we (are meant to) play.
Original Summary:
It’s an eerie feeling of déjà vu that overtakes him when he opens his eyes and sees Ouma hovering above him, blocking everything else from sight. And, for a moment, it’s almost like being back in Gonta’s lab with fourteen of them still alive.
-
Or, Saihara moves that little bit faster and Ouma ends up with a different hostage in the hangar.
As implied by the summary, the fic itself centers around a canon divergent, what-if scenario. It currently isn't fully completed, though there is 14 chapters with a word count of 84,500~, so I plan to cover it chapter by chapter.
Rules:
- Commit to the project. I will be strict about deadlines, unless asked for an extension beforehand, and I would prefer to maintain the same cast.
- Have a decent mic quality. This specifically means that your voice should be clear, and lack background noise such as traffic.
- Be willing to cooperate. Basically, be nice towards the rest of the cast.
- Have Discord or otherwise be open to getting it. This will be the primary source of communication.
- Keep in mind that because this is a recording of a fic that is not yet finished, this is very likely to be a long term project.
- Most of the characters have at least some instance of loud outburst (shrieking, screaming, shouting etc) so preferably, all VAs must have the capability to record such if necessary.
Other Notes:
- As this is canon divergent, canon typical themes are to be expected. Character death, themes of depression, and violence are only some, but again, they're all pretty canon typical.
- I'll be looking for ability to express emotion as a priority, so keep that in mind!
- Narration will be done by the characters, as opposed to a seperate narrator altogether, either by the POV character, or by someone else involved in the scene, when possible.
- All audition lines are taken from the fic itself.
Thank you, and good luck!

Due to the lack of auditions for Kaito and Kiibo, I've extended the deadline to March 13th.
This is a role needed for cover art. If possible, there may be individual covers for each chapter, but that isn't required.
As these must be digital art, any examples should preferably be digital.
Say something you think would fit
Kokichi Ouma, the Ultimate Supreme Leader and renown liar. After a slight hiccup in his plan, he decides to take it all in stride and rework his schemes.
Though he's less likely to narrate, Kokichi has a tendency to have a lot of speech to make up for it. Emotive ability is especially important for him.
(Mocking) Don’t tell me you forgot all about that underground tunnel, and after Akamatsu-chan tried so hard to get us all to go through it!
(Dramatic) If someone thought I was boring I think it would just kill me. It would just be the absolute worst and I’d have to die.
(Bored) Can we return it?
(Narrating) In the morning, the group will venture off into the hangar, electrohammers – bar Maki’s – in hand, and open the door to reveal the same sight Maki saw last night. An empty room, with the only traces of someone ever having been there being a purple rubber ball in the bathroom.
Maki Harukawa, formerly known as the Ultimate Child Caregiver and currently known as the Ultimate Assassin. Her fierce protective streak and wary nature come more and more into play as things fall apart.
Maki does the most narration thus far, excluding Saihara, so you must be comfortable with it. In a certain way, she acts as a secondary lead.
(Referring to Ouma) Obviously not, we can’t trust anything that boy gives us, it’ll only bring us grief
(Pensive) Leaving between you going and me arriving is too small a timeframe; one of us should have seen him
(Angry) Do you want to die that badly?
(Narrating) Later in the night, an assassin will sneak into the very same place, take over an Exisal that does not fight her, and enter the hangar with every intention of killing the remnant of despair that has caused them all so much suffering. With the intention of torturing every bit of information out of Ouma that she possibly can, so she can understand why he did this to them.
Kaito Momota, Luminary of the Stars and Ultimate Astronaut! He's determined to be the hero, and is adamant in his belief in Saihara despite the circumstances.
(Angry) Just what the hell are you talking about? Give Saihara back before I make you!
(Comforting) You believe in me just like I believe in you and everything will turn out just fine.
(Quick, referring to Saihara) Of course we trust you.
(Narrating) Later in the night, an astronaut will already be long asleep, resting up for the big day ahead of him tomorrow. He dreams of being the hero of a story who saves the day, who rescues everyone and anyone, and when he wakes will endeavour his best to make it a reality.
Himiko Yumeno, the Ultimate Magician (Mage)! She's doing her best to remain positive despite the circumstance, and like Momota, she wants to believe in everyone.
(Determind) Alright! With my magic, anything is possible –don’t worry though Momota-kun, I’ll still let you take the credit.
(Accusatory) And you expect us to just believe that ridiculous story? Coming from you of all people?
(Tired) Nyeh...all those stairs for a door?
(Narrating) Later in the night, a magician will check three times, and then another three times, to make sure that her electrohammer is safely plugged into socket and will be fully charged for tomorrow's rescue mission
K1-B0, better known as Kiibo, is the Ultimate Robot. As the name suggests, he remains hopeful, but stays rooted in logical thinking, avoiding blindly believing without assessing all possibilities.
(Determind) If we keep up hope that things will get better then surely everything will turn out fine!
(Scolding) Ignore it? You can’t be serious, Ouma-kun, that’s a very real endangerment to everyone’s wellbeing you’re holding!
(Agreeing) That would be the most logical conclusion
(Narrating) Later in the night, a robot will observe an empty room for hours, and request to speak with someone who isn’t around to hear him ask. He doesn’t notice that the field is off, focused on other things.
Tsumugi Shirogane, the Ultimate Cosplayer. There really isn't much to say - she's just a plain supporting character.
Behind the scenes, the mastermind scrambles to amend this unforseen plot twist, and is forced to become more proactive.
(Excited) Oh I know, come with me, I have some outfits you just have to try on!
(Arguing, firm) Ouma-kun’s always been full of lies! That was probably just another lie –we can’t trust him!
(Shaken) W-what, this is a joke right?
(Narrating) She thinks of all the bloodshed to come, all the tears to be shed, all the lovely despair still yet to grow and fester among her ‘classmates’ and smothers a laugh into her pillow. She thinks of how amazing tomorrow will be and is barely able to contain her energy as she struggles to go to sleep.
Monokuma, the headmaster of the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles and the bear responsible for overseeing the killing game.
This is the only role with no narration, and it's also fairly small - he doesn't show up until chapter 6.
(Cheery) Here and present in the animatronic and synthetic flesh, is your beloved headmaster Monokuma!
(Mocking) And here I thought you guys had some sense inside your heads.
(Upset) Just no with respect with you kids anymore, I remember back when everyone was rightfully terrified me, those were the days.
