Greetings! This is specifically for those who have been cast.
You will receive a friend request from me, seltzerfiend, on Discord. Accepting it is the first step to accepting your role. Thank you!
Curtain Call is a production that my friend and I have been working on. It's written as a play script, but this casting call is for us to get the voice lines performed and later put on my YouTube channel. Since the characters were not designed with physical appearances in mind, you do not need to look like the character to audition for them. This is being produced with no budget, so you will not be paid for your work. This is a passion project, and we sincerely hope that you are still willing to work with us and help to tell a fun story.
Here is a spoiler-free synopsis of the show:
Carolyn Dixon High’s Theater Arts Club is facing a serious issue. Like, a really serious one. They’re working on their production of “Romeo and Juliet”, but the two student directors can’t decide on how to direct it. Bea says that it’s a cautionary tale about the stupidity of young love, while Ben thinks it to be a heartfelt tragedy about hatred and romance. Like the Capulets and Montagues before them, a rivalry grows between the two. Sibling-fueled shenanigans, stupid ghost stories, and scripts written in Old English - it’s enough to make anyone follow the fate of the titular characters. But as Opening Night draws near, they’ll have to figure out a compromise if they want to put on a good show.
For my non-American friends, here is a guide to the typical high school grade system: freshmen are 14-15 years old, sophomores are 15-16 years old, juniors are 16-17 years old, and seniors are 17-18 years old.
There are a few requirements for those who wish to audition:
- You must be at least fifteen years old.
- You must have decent microphone quality (i.e. no background noise).
- You must speak English well.
- You do NOT need prior experience - beginners are welcome to audition.
If you do not want to act but still want to work on this project, fear not! We also desire visual artists, animators, and the like of any age to help us visually bring this story to life.
Please provide your Discord username in your audition for future contact.
Thank you for auditioning.

Greetings!
First of all, I'd like to thank everyone that auditioned for this project. We are blown away by the amount of auditions we received. If you have been cast, you will receive your role no later than midnight tonight.
Secondly, please remember that casting is a tough decision. We have to eliminate, but we also need to pick our preferences. However, if you were not selected, fret not! We have many of you in mind as backups, should our first choices relinquish their roles.
Finally, we hope that you have still retained an interest in this project. Subscribe to my YouTube channel to check out the videos as they come.
Once again, thank you all.
Greetings!
This is a reminder that this casting call will close in a few short days, so if we have requested you to try out for other parts, please give them a thought. Thank you all very much.
Ben is a senior and one of two student directors for Carolyn Dixon’s Theater Arts production of Romeo and Juliet. He is a laidback and popular guy who is making his directorial debut. He’s eager to help Bea and is impressed by her capability, but he can’t find it in him to take the show as seriously as she does.
This role is a lead role.
What do you mean? They’re doing great! Nick only messed up once!
(directing) It doesn’t matter. Nick, Miranda, you guys are doing great, but try to convey the dramatic nature of what they’re saying to each other. They’re not serious, in a way. They’re two teenagers making sweeping declarations of love to each other after talking for five minutes at a party — “not a hundred words”, Juliet herself says it. Make it the biggest Hallmark confession you can.
Look, I know we both argue in front of you guys a lot, and we’re sorry, but this is difficult. Bea’s under a lot of pressure, and you guys accusing her of making fun of me isn’t cool.
Bea is a senior and one of two student directors for Carolyn Dixon’s Theater Arts production of Romeo and Juliet. She is uptight and professional, and they want to make their final show her best one yet. Unfortunately, her fellow director, Ben, doesn’t seem to share the same passion as her.
This role is a lead role.
You’re the only one who auditioned for Romeo, Nick. Trust me, if we had other options–. (sigh) Anyway. Peter, you’re Benvolio.
This is my last show here. I’ve done seven already, and they’ve been great. And you know why they were great? Because I took the time to perfect it.
I insisted on you joining me for a reason, Ben, and it’s not because of your pretty face.
Nick is a junior who is overly confident about landing the lead role of Romeo. Never mind that he was the only person that auditioned for it, he’s clearly the most talented one in the cast. Hopefully, the allure of being the future club president might be just enough to knock him down a peg.
This role is a lead role.
(struggling to read Shakespeare) I, um, propane with my unworthiest hand / This holy shrine, the gentle fine is this: / My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand / To smooth that rough tough — no, touch — with a tender kiss.
Come on, Miranda. I can do this. I’m Romeo, for crying out loud!
First Romeo, then who? Hamlet? Omelet? Whatever that guy’s name is.
Miranda is a senior who plays Juliet. She is rude yet talented, earning every important role she’s gotten, including her current one. However, her sour attitude doesn’t bode well with certain folks, and sets her up for a massive payback.
This role is a lead role.
(sincerely) O Romeo, o Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? / Deny thy father and refuse thy name; / Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, / And I'll no longer be a Capulet.
Who do I look like, some idiot who got the lead by pure luck?
The proper term is “hold,” for your information.
Robin is a junior and the understudy for Romeo. He’s a loyal friend to Charlie, but he’s also got a huge crush on Miranda. He’s completely smitten and desperate to talk to her. However, he must eventually choose between love and friendship.
This role is a supporting role.
(as if performing a Shakespearean sonnet) If you’d like, then perhaps, someday, / I’ll bring you to a flower garden. / Both of us standing there, nothing to say, / We would stay until the sky darkens.
I was just trying to talk to Miranda, I wasn’t trying to annoy her or anything. She’s so pretty, but so dangerous.
Maybe I should mess up my lines. Then she'd talk to me.
Stephanie is a junior and the understudy for Juliet. She is thrilled to be understudying a lead role, as well as being in a show with her two little siblings, Maggie and Iris. She loves her siblings dearly, but she can’t understand why they seem determined to get her the lead.
This role is a supporting role.
Um, yeah. It was pretty rude of her. Miranda tends to be that way sometimes, unfortunately. She doesn’t really like newcomers, and this is only Robin’s second show.
(scolding) Maggie! Iris! That’s enough. I understand you want to see some more, but we need to be respectful.
Say no more. I'll get out of your hair. (under her breath) Your really beautiful hair.
Iris is a sophomore who plays Friar Lawrence. They are bookish and a follower. They love their older sister, Stephanie very much. Due to this, when their younger sister, Maggie, suggests helping Stephanie get what she deserves, Iris is more than ready to oblige.
(NOTE: Iris is non-binary, and as such, we would prefer if non-binary folks auditioned for their part. Thank you for understanding.)
This role is a supporting role.
Did you see how Miranda acted towards that kid? The one who asked for her name? How rude of her.
Why don’t we just use paint? Or corn syrup? They used corn syrup in Scream, y’know.
Why do you two care about Miranda? It’s not like she’s done either of you any favors. She’s been nothing but rude to us - all of us.
Maggie is a freshman who plays the Nurse. Being the younger sister of the calm Stephanie and complacent Iris, she needs to find ways to stir up some excitement. What better way than to give the high and mighty Miranda what she deserves?
This role is a supporting role.
(wickedly) Stephanie should get to play Juliet every night, I think.
Maybe he can help us with our plan! He’s so in love with Miranda, he’d follow her to the ends of the earth.
But if you hadn’t been such a sarcastic biotch this semester, this wouldn’t have happened.
Charlie is a senior who plays Mercutio. He loves making people smile with his jokes, and is known for his annual pranks. As the current club president, he needs to keep an eye open for a potential successor. With the power of ghost stories and a good prank, Charlie thinks they can help their target prove his worth.
(NOTE: Charlie is a trans man, and as such, we would prefer if trans men or non-binary folks auditioned for his part. Thank you for understanding.)
This role is a lead role.
(as if performing a Shakespearean monologue) The phantom, I know that she’ll deliver / An essential message, to go with her: / She will reward him for his behavior / And this good news, Nick will savor. / He shall be praised, his heart content, / And he will be ready to be the new president.
Alright, we gotta do something about this kid’s attitude.
(mysteriously) They say that if you wear something silver on Opening Night, the ghost will give you good luck before you start.
Peter is a senior who plays Tybalt. He is a natural peacekeeper who tries in vain to keep Ben and Bea’s arguments from disrupting rehearsals too much. Despite the stressful rehearsals, Peter is determined to keep a cool head and make his last show a peaceful one.
This role is a supporting role.
(with ease) Patience perforce with willful choler meeting / Makes my flesh tremble in their different greeting. / I will withdraw: but this intrusion shall / Now seeming sweet convert to bitter gall.
Well, does he know we were kidding? About you seeing Ella May, the ghosts talking, all that stuff?
How? You’re not gonna pick a fight, are you?
Adrian is a senior who plays Benvolio. They had been looking forward to a no-pressure role in his final show, but the show seems far from no-pressure. Being close friends with Peter and Charlie, Adrian is more than willing to help find the next president to take responsibility. He have a slightly more formal way of speaking than most people his age.
This role is a supporting role.
I, as well. I feel as if I’ve been a senior for far too long. I’m ready to relinquish my responsibilities in favor of a nap.
Please, Charlie, don’t be rash. The boy actually has some talent.
Perhaps if we told him more about Theater Arts, he’d realize that there’s more to it than just himself.
Rosa is a sophomore who plays Lady Capulet. She’s much more excited to be in the show than her twin brother Sebastian is, but she doesn’t need him to have fun. When she learns of some sabotage being done, her excitement turns into a sense of justice.
This role is a supporting role.
Isn't this so exciting? We’re finally going to be in a play together!
No way are you skipping rehearsal, Sebastian! Get back here!!
(in the middle of a catfight) You may have an older sister, but I have a twin brother. I can do this all day.
Sebastian is a sophomore who plays Lord Montague. He’s only doing theater because his parents wanted him to join a club. He closed his eyes and picked at random off the list, purposely messed up his audition, and somehow got in. Ah, well. At least all the guys asking him for love advice is keeping him entertained.
This role is a supporting role.
Can we refuse our role?
Look, theater is your thing, Rosa. I’m only doing this because Mom and Dad want me to.
The first step to getting a girl’s heart is to draw her in. You need to be dark and mysterious.
Ariel is a freshman who plays Lady Montague. She’s over the moon to have received a named role in her first show and to make new friends. So when Rosa enlists her help to stop someone from getting hurt, she jumps at the chance.
This role is a supporting role.
Uh, so those two over there, Maggie and Iris? They keep whispering stuff about “blood” and “Miranda”. You don’t think it’s anything bad, do you?
You two just don’t understand real theater.
Not amazing enough to be anything other than an understudy.
Antonio is a freshman who plays Lord Capulet. He only joined Theater Arts at the insistence of his classmate (and crush) Maggie. Truth be told, he’d much rather be playing video games or calling his friends than reciting the Bard on Friday afternoons. This will be his first (and probably last) show, so it should be a lot of fun! Right?
This role is a supporting role.
(stiffly) You are a princox; go. Be quiet, or — more light, more light! For shame! I'll make you quiet. What, cheerily, my hearts!
You’re right. Movies know exactly how real people are.
(trying to be macho) Listen, dollface, I’ve seen you talking to me. I can tell that you like me. What do you say we go and...get something to eat sometime? Just you and me, honey bunch.
