Male, 25-40, Scottish accent, semi-gruff tenor
A well-meaning & well-mannered man originally from Scotland, but residing in New England. Unless around close friends, he ponders carefully over each word he says. He prefers to stay neutral. He is wary of others, but has poor instincts and isn’t one to act. Overall an intelligent man who does want to help others.
Has both acting and narration lines.

(in a bar, meeting his friend; excited) Ahaha, you’re never gonna believe it Jimbo!
(narrating) 2 weeks quickly came and went aboard The Arcarius. I was put to work by Captain Wolfgang, which I picked up rather swiftly. I don’t wish to surmise what would happen if I didn’t. Wolfgang had a certain mystique about him, like he wasn’t telling the crew everything. Always withholding information, he was, and what was even more peculiar is he was the only one aboard who seemed to know where we were headed.
(strained; up to interpretation) Look Norm, all I know is that my job is to do what the captain says and help keep this ship running towards whatever destination it is that we’re going to. I-I have a family to-
Male, 50-65. A slight German accent is preferable but not mandatory. A gruff baritone, Wolfgang’s voice commands a scene.
A bitter old-timer, Wolfgang is in search of a lasting legacy, and he doesn’t care who he has to scare, hurt, or betray to achieve his goal. He is of German descent, but grew up in America. Despite this, he calls the sea his home. He is a manipulative narcissist eager to toy with others emotions to feel power.

(catching his crewmen slacking) I think you should get to your morning duties, lest there be repercussions?
(up to interpretation) Glorious! That’s great to hear buddy. And might I say, you just smell terrific, you smell of the flowers of Summer. Hear, have a Scotch. You are Scottish, aren’t you?
(physically grappling another crewman) See fellas! This is what happens when you mess with the captain! I am your boss, I am the one who signs your checks when you get off this godforsaken vessel at the end of all this, hell, I’m the one who decides whether you’ll survive to see land again! I am the foreman, the proprietor, I am your governor, and for the next few weeks, goddamnit I am your messiah. This man, young Peter, was attempting a mutiny. Seems like some of you do not value my taciturnity. Those of you in agreement with this philosophy are more than welcome to jump overboard. However, if you wish to stay, and not be claimed by the sea, I suggest you keep your doctrine to yourself and get to bloody work!
Male, 25-40. A New England accent is preferable but not mandatory. A smooth tenor, Norman’s voice is “normal” and doesn’t have much distinctiveness.
The forever sceptic, Norman makes up for his relative mediocrity through his eccentricity. Having trouble with authority, he’s always quick to take a stand. He is a well-meaning man, although he’s a bit aggressive at times. He struggles between doing the right thing and getting the respect he thinks he deserves. Sometimes both his goals overlap.

(genuine) See Ernie, I know I keep asking you this, and it’s not exactly an uncommon question aboard this ship, but where do you think we’re headed?
(surprised) Woah! Golly, what was that?
(strained, pissed) Ernest! Why’d you do that? I was just about to give that dullard a piece of my mind!
Male, 50-65. New England accent, gruff & aged baritone or bass.
Jimbo is a typical grizzled bartender from New England. Relatively soft spoken depending on the conversation, but is generally jovial. He would die for his friends and kill for his beloved establishment.

(surprised, skeptical) A boat? Ernie I ain’t never seen you drink a glass of water let alone step foot on no ship! How’d you manage this?
(kindly) It’s just, your inexperience combined with the recent rumors is slightly…disturbing…
(concerned, caring) Well, a lotta ships have been going missing in the Atlantic recently. Seems a few countries are already startin’ to tighten regulations.
Male, 18-23
He’s a younger member of the crew and is quite naive. He is very cautious and quick to frighten. Only has these two lines.

(serious, concerned, shouting) Look, it’s the captain on his deck! He’s going to attack its head in the water!
Male, 30-50. A New England accent is preferred but not required. He is a gruff & aged tenor.
A veteran aboard the ship who is witnessing its apparent downfall. He is terrified, yet mesmerized by the insanity unfolding before him. Only has these two lines.

(re: ‘what’s going on?’, up to interpretation) A bright light started coming from the windows of the captain's quarters and suddenly this monster was upon us! He’s destroying the ship! I gotta cut its tentacle off!
(runs to stab monster but fails and gets grabbed and killed; dying screams) AAAAGGH!
