âComplex Connectionâ is a BL webtoon about soulmates caught up in a complicated romance. One single, the other in a terrible marriage, and neither knowing that the two of them are meant to be. All they DO know is that theyâve shared a mysterious connection to one another since they were children, causing them to see, hear, smell, and feel whatever the other one does. The kicker being? Theyâve only just recently been able to make contact and can have entire conversations in spite of living thousands of miles apart. These confused souls, Donny and Micah, use this unexpected development to help each other through love, life, and whatever other problems rise with the new day. All while steadily realizing that this complex friendship of theirsâŠmay not be as platonic as it should be.
PROJECT DETAILS:
The focus of this project mainly revolves around creating a trailer for the âComplex Connectionâ webtoon and said trailer WILL be posted on Basil the Bearâs YouTube page, as well as shared around on socials for the sake of promotion. HOWEVER, the voices of Donny, Micah, Nao, and Tobi in particular will also be utilized for multiple personal projects beyond this, as the characters are active OCs involved in a universe outside of the âComplex Connectionâ series. These roles can be considered more long term commitments, as you will randomly be sought out via DM and requested to record for certain animatics/animations that may or may not be posted publicly. You will always be asked for availability prior and will be tipped/compensated fairly for any and all work after review and approval.
ALL ROLES, be it the ones strictly meant for the trailer or for personal projects, will always be tipped/compensated for their work after review and approval. That and the other roles mentioned (Young Donny, Young Micah, Janet, etc.) may also be notified to voice in other videos beside the trailer should we decide to create âComplex Connectionâ centered content for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
Own/use a good quality microphone and have a proper recording space for clear audio.
Be over the age of 18!
Willingness to voice 18+/Mature/NSFW material is not a strict requirement, but definitely desired and encouraged (namely for Donny, Micah, Nao, and Tobi). If you are comfortable doing so, message us with a NSFW demo reel and we may even get you to read a mature line as part of your audition.
It would be preferred if you had a discord for the sake of easy communication.
Have a PayPal or some other manner in which we can safely send you your payments.
We donât accept racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other form of bigotry. This is a BL centered project, kind of comes with the territory to not be cruel to those under the LGBTQ+ spectrum. If you canât respect it, donât bother auditioning and respectfully keep it moving.
General availability would be nice, but we wont expect you to be on call 24/7 by any means. Just respond as fast as you reasonably can within your schedule and things should be fine.
If we like your initial audition submission, we may reach out to give you more lines so that we can get a better sense of your vocal/acting range.

Donny was born and raised in what would be modern day Brooklyn. He can come off as a little rude when you meet and doesnât engage in small talk (doesnât really care for it). But once you break down those initial walls, he is incredibly kind. Devoted. And goes the extra mile for the people he cares about, to the point it can make him a little reckless. Though he can exhibit some anti-social behavior, if he IS interested in a person, he does get playful and flirty.
Voice Description:
Donny has a Brooklyn accent. Not in a comical mafia boss kinda way though. Just a regular everyday New York Brooklyn Italian accent that DOES get heavier when he gets passionate in his emotions. His voice is in the bass area.
Finding examples of his voice was a little difficult since some people take the accent over the top to the point it can be a little cartoony but this was the best one I could find that sounded the most natural and close to his voice(though as I said, his voice is a little deeper):

Micah has never aligned with the idea of ânormalâ and his personality reflects thatâŠfor better or worse. If he thinks of doing something, however absurd it may be? He does it. No questions, no second guessing. It makes him spontaneous, unpredictable, and incredibly memorable to anyone who isnât used to his stupid antics. Micah loves being wild, loves being free, loves sparking discussion by simplyâŠwell, existing. Can he be a lot? Yes. Annoying? Sometimes. But he also possesses a lot of kindness and heart, forever doing his best to be considerate where it counts. Even if he hates when the vibes get too heavy, heâll work to quell his loud personality when a situation demands a little more tact. Micah pushes himself to be there for you in a pinch and if he loves you? Even more so. Heâs ride or die till the end and will devote himself to you without question should you manage to get on his good side. Micah might leave you with a headache or two, but heâll also leave you with plenty of laughs and a slew of good memories. All you have to do is give him a chance andâŠya know, accept his long list of quirks.

Suppose Micahâs voice is on the higher end, not overly pitchy or feminine, but perhaps somewhere in the tenor range.
Micahâs vibe can best be described through example. Think Shxtouâs sound, where itâs smooth and easy on the ears.

Micahâs got some flavor to how he speaks sometimes, not a stereotypical âgay voiceâ, certainly doesnât have lisp, but he can go between flirty and goofy, so just consider that when delivering a line. We donât want him to come off too flat or bland, but we also donât want him too cartoony.

She is in her 20s so a mature enough sounding voice though weâd like it to be a little low(?) We donât want her voice to monotonous however as she does have a lot of lines where she is angry and that requires some passion.

Nao is a man of few words and even fewer facial expressions. Heâs difficult to read if youâre observing him from a distance, but once you learn what makes him tick, youâll discover pretty quickly how honest, open, and communicative he tends to be on principleâŠBut literally. Nao is all about principles, forever guiding himself and others on a path of morality and personal wellness. Youâd be hard pressed to find someone who lives with as many disciplines as he does. Suppose one can blame that on his upbringing. As a young, Japanese man raised by strict parents, he couldnât help learning a thing or two about maturity and proper self controlâŠWell, maybe thatâs not TOO true. He does exhibit self control and heâs definitely the mature one between his roommate and boyfriend, but his stringent childhood is precisely what draws Nao towards chaos and thrill, as he never got to experience such luxuries growing up. One could say thatâs what attracted him to Micah and Tobi in the first place, but thatâs neither here nor there. His desire for fun doesnât change that Nao is good to those around him and lives his life as true to himself as possibleâ whether heâs doing right by strangers or indulging in strange adventures alongside friends. Heâs here to live an enjoyable life and wants everyone else to do the same.
Voice Description:
Naoâs voice falls into the bass range.
Naoâs voice can best be described as having Kenjiro Tsudaâs more suave, warm, deep delivery.

A touch of youth is good considering his age, that part can be felt out. But most delivery is pretty relaxed/stoic until he otherwise expresses prominent emotions like anger or sadness.

Tobi is a soft and funny young man with a heart of gold who definitely exhibits a lot of excited puppy energy. He is on the Autism Spectrum on the more high functioning side. He is in tune with peopleâs emotions and loves to create art and build crafts. Despite the bullying and society sometimes trying to make him feel like he needs help doing everything, Tobi learnt to be independent at an early age and definitely strives to do his best to prove to people that he does not need to be infantilized or things of that sort. Nao and Micah have definitely helped him on his journey to independence and he is devoted to both of them.
Voice Description:
Tobiâs voice falls into the baritone range.(Between the bass and tenor. More on the tenor side) He sounds very playful most of the time. When angry however, his voice gets surprisingly deep.

He has more empathy than your average child and is always curious to understand people, especially the ones who look sad. Maybe heâs not the best behaved boy out there, butâŠhe tries to be good. Thatâs what counts, right?

Nonna is a strong woman who lost her husband while they were both taking care of their grandson, Donny, and she had to learn to take care of him on her own. She doesnât take kindly to people bullying her loved ones and is not afraid to pull out her rifle and aim it straight at your face if you mouth at her. She demands respect and isnât afraid to confront a person but she is also attentive and the kind of person who will tell you how stupid you were to do something(that was probably stupid) while also taking care of you. She remembers small details about everyone from their favorite snacks to the products they use in their hair. Takes care of her guests and everyone who needs a home is always welcome to stay with her as long as they live by her simple rules (Donât touch her rifle, leave your attitude at the door and silence after 9 pm)

More of a âfriendâ than a mom, Micahâs mother has been struggling ever since her son was born. She had him young, so you can already imagine how robbed she felt, with her youth spent dedicated to the life of a working mother. The stress was far too much for her, causing all types of freak outs, anxiety attacks, and aggressive episodes of paranoia that lead to her husband divorcing her. With Micah as her only tie to her past relationship and the entire reason for all the changes in her life, sheâs forever shifting between the role of controlling mom, the self proclaimed âbestieâ of her son, and a woman just trying to live her damn life. Sheâs not great at managing her impulses and often spirals when she feels that things are out of her control. Maybe thatâs why she's so adamant about injecting herself into the lives of others. Always wanting to operate someone elseâs decisions, fixing problems no one ever asked for help on, and taking credit for successes she had no part in; namely when it comes to Micah. This can lead to some toxic behaviours, many of which she is blind to. From her perspective, sheâs a dedicated mother trying her best, through the lens of a bystander? Sheâs a woman who tries in all the wrong places, while absolutely neglecting everything thatâs important. Messy, chaotic, and forever running from blame, this woman needs help.
