Auditions for Cirque DUB Freak Volume 2 are now officially closed! 🎪🕷️✨

Thank you so much to everyone who auditioned. We received 300+ auditions this round! 🤯 That is incredible! Every single one of you brought something unique to the table, and the amount of talent submitted is going to make this an extremely tough decision.

If you don’t hear back this time, please try not to feel discouraged. There will always be more opportunities. Cirque du Freak has a HUGE cast of characters, and sometimes it is simply a matter of finding the role that fits your voice best. For those unfamiliar, there are 12 volumes total, and we are planning on sending out a casting call for each one. So please don’t give up! I would genuinely love the chance to work with each and every one of you someday.

A few people also asked about receiving feedback on their auditions. Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of submissions this round, I won’t be able to provide individual feedback, as much as I wish I could. That said, I can share how my casting process for Cirque DUB Freak generally works:

    First: audio quality.

Clear, clean audio is incredibly important. Even a great performance can be difficult to focus on if background noise, distortion, or inconsistent levels are distracting. Audio issues can pull attention away from your voice and your acting, which makes it harder to fully evaluate a performance.

    Second: the acting itself.

I listen to how the lines flow. Does the delivery feel natural? Does it sound like the character is thinking and feeling rather than reading? I am listening for emotion, intention, and whether the performance brings the character to life in a believable way without sounding forced.

    Third: the voice.

This is not about having a “perfect” voice. It is about fit. Does the voice match how I envision the character? Does it align with how the character looks and moves in the manga, including expressions, body language, and overall presence?

Piece by piece, I am able to sort through auditions and find the actor whose voice and performance best match each character.

Hopefully this helps clarify a few things. Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart, for auditioning, for taking the time to check out the project, and for supporting my little passion project. Your enthusiasm truly means the world to me. 🥹

Stay tuned for the casting results!!!

  • Now Casting: Volume 2 (Updated Call!)

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share that I’ve put together another casting call, this time featuring only the characters from Volume 2. Since CastingCall.Club only keeps projects visible for a limited amount of time before they expire or stop showing up, I made a fresh call so everything stays easy to find.

Feel free to audition for either casting call! The deadline is December 26th, 2025. Thank you, and may the luck of the vampires be with you!

Unpaid
Role assigned to: Jay Ramirez

Gender: Male Species: Snake Boy (Human with reptilian features) Age: 14

Description:
Evra Von is one of the performers at the Cirque du Freak and quickly becomes one of Darren’s closest friends after Darren joins the troupe. Known as the “Snake Boy” for his scaly skin and serpentine features, Evra is confident, witty, and surprisingly grounded despite his unusual appearance. He often serves as a voice of reason and comfort for Darren, helping him adjust to life among the freaks while maintaining a playful and mischievous streak. Evra’s loyalty and kindness shine through, but he’s not without moments of doubt or frustration, especially when danger threatens those he cares about. Though young, he displays maturity and bravery beyond his years, standing by Darren even when fear and uncertainty loom large.

Accent/Voice:
Open to interpretation. Evra could have any accent or dialect, as the Cirque travels across the world and its members hail from diverse backgrounds. His voice should sound youthful and lively, with an expressive, curious energy. He often speaks with warmth and confidence, though moments of fear or emotional conflict reveal a softer, more sincere side. A good reference for his tone and energy would be Killua Zoldyck from Hunter x Hunter.

  • Mr. Crepsley → CREP-slee (/ˈkrɛps.li/)

  • Evra Von → EV-rah Von (/ˈɛv.rə vɒn/)

  • Voice description:

    • male child
    • [Context:] After Darren returns to the Cirque du Freak with Mr. Crepsley, still adjusting to life as a half-vampire, he encounters Evra. Evra recognizes him from the audience at the old theater and greets him with surprise and curiosity. "Hey, it's you! You're the guy who came to that old theater!! It's quite uncommon for kids to come see the show. Let's see, you're Darren Shan. You're Mr. Crepsley's assistant, aren't you? My name's Evra Von."

    • [Context:] This line happens when Darren first arrives at the Cirque after becoming a half-vampire. Evra comforts him by sharing his past, how he was mistreated in a cruel circus until Mr. Tall rescued him, showing Darren he’s not alone and is safe now. "I've never seen my real parents. The first thing I knew, I was in a circus. It was a real wicked circus too. They beat me and treated me like a real snake. They kept me locked up in a glass case... Finally, one day Mr. Tall came to the rescue. See, Darren, everyone else here is like you. We've all got a story. There's nothing you need to worry about anymore!"

    • [Context:] Evra is explaining to Darren how terrifying Mr. Tiny is, noting that even the other Cirque members, and Mr. Tall himself, are uneasy around him. He admits his own fear, showing just how unnerving Mr. Tiny’s presence can be. "Mr. Tiny is the spookiest man I've ever met. The other members of the cirque feel the same way. Nobody likes him. Even Mr. Tall gets fidgety when Mr. Tiny's around. It's been two years since I last saw him. What could he want this time? It's hard to explain, but... every time he looks at me, I just get so terrified..."

    Unpaid
    cast offsite

Gender: Male Species: Human Age: 12

Description: Sam Grest is a local boy who becomes friends with Darren Shan and Evra Von when they stop for a show in his hometown. Curious, friendly, and eager to explore, Sam is captivated by the unusual world of the Cirque du Freak. He is brave and loyal for his age, with a natural sense of wonder and optimism that makes him approachable and relatable. While still a typical boy in many ways, his enthusiasm and adventurous spirit allow him to keep up with Darren and Evra, making him a trusted companion in their journey.

    Accent/Voice:
Open to interpretation. Sam’s voice should be youthful, energetic, and expressive, reflecting his curiosity and excitement about the Cirque. He can convey playful eagerness, genuine concern, or determination as situations demand. His tone should feel natural and unpolished, with subtle regional inflections that ground him as a local boy. Accent is open to interpretation, but should remain within the spectrum of British accents, keeping him compatible with R.V.’s voice while allowing for small variations. Think bright, adventurous, and sincere.

  • Sam Grest → /sæm ɡrɛst/ (“Sam” like it looks, “Grest” rhymes with “best”)

  • Cirque du Freak → /sɜːrk du friːk/ (“Cirque” like “sərk,” “du” like “doo,” “Freak” like normal English “freak”)

  • Voice description:

    • irish (general)
    • all english accents
    • [Context:] After Darren and Evra try to prank Sam, he pretends to be knocked out to trick them in return. When they panic and think he’s unconscious, Sam suddenly jumps up laughing, revealing it was all part of his own prank. "Ha-ha-ha-ha! I got you, I got you! Ha-ha! Nyah nyah! Hey, my name's Sam Grest. Nice to meet-cha!"

    • [Context:] After being told he’s too young to join the Cirque or go on an adventure, Sam bursts out in frustration. His playful demeanor fades as he passionately defends his belief that kids should have the freedom to make their own choices. "It's not fair! People always say 'when you're older'! Does that mean kids aren't allowed to do anything? Kids are always forced to follow adults' orders! We have wills of our own! We have desires and goals! We should be free to do what we want! We have unlimited possibilities! We're not meant to be slaves! We're-"

    • [Context:] After being caught in a dangerous situation while trying to prove himself, Sam lies injured and weak in Darren’s arms. His voice trembles as he tries to speak, struggling to get the words out. Despite the pain, his tone is gentle - full of regret, but also affection for his friend. "Just... wanted... to be... with you... I'm... sorry... I guess... I really wasn't... meant to join... the Cirque du Freak..."

    R.V., aka "Reggie Veggie"
    closed
    Unpaid
    Role assigned to: Zillah

Gender: Male Species: Human Age: Late 20's to early-30s

Description: R.V. is a friend of Sam’s who first appears as an eco-warrior traveling the country with his group, Nature’s Opposing Protectors (NOP). He befriends Sam, Darren, and Evra when his troupe is near where the Cirque du Freak is performing. A passionate vegetarian and strong advocate for animal rights, R.V. is principled, expressive, and quick to react to cruelty or injustice. He is clever and charismatic, but his idealism and strong moral convictions can lead him to act impulsively when confronted with wrongdoing.

    Accent/Voice:
Open to interpretation. R.V.’s voice should be warm, expressive, and principled, conveying both his earnestness and his occasional intensity. Think Hagrid from Harry Potter, but with a slightly off-kilter edge - there’s a hint of unpredictability or intensity simmering beneath the surface. He can express moral outrage, humor, or sincerity as the scene demands, but in moments of stress or confrontation, his voice can become slightly unhinged or erratic, reflecting his passionate and idealistic nature. Accent is open to interpretation but should remain within the spectrum of British accents, keeping him compatible with Sam Grest while highlighting his age, experience, and subtly unstable personality.

Reggie Veggie → /ˈrɛdʒi ˈvɛdʒi/ (“Reggie” like the name “Reggie,” “Veggie” like the word “veggie”)

    Voice description:

    • british
    • irish (general)
    • english (british)
    • [Context:] R.V. (Reggie Veggie) meets Darren for the first time. In his playful, energetic manner, he lifts Darren off the ground by his legs while introducing himself, showing both his strength and exuberant, slightly over-the-top personality. "GOTCHA!! You must be Darren, then! I'm Sam's friend! Name's Reggie Veggie. But you can call me R.V."

    • [Context:] R.V. enthusiastically explains that he lives by his principles as an eco-warrior, then quickly shows concern for the Cirque performers, asking if they’re being mistreated, highlighting his protective, idealistic, and slightly intense personality. R.V.: "Ha-ha! Heck, all I'm doing is living by my beliefs, man. You guys are here with the circus, right?" Evra: "Yeah, that's right. The freak show." R.V.: "They don't mistreat you, do they? They don't whip you or underfeed you or anything like that?"

    • [Context:] This scene takes place inside the Cirque at night, when R.V. attempts to free the chained Wolf Man. Darren tries to stop him, but R.V., driven by his righteous convictions, insists on doing what he believes is right. In the process, the Wolf Man bites his hands. R.V. reacts with shock, panic, and confusion. He doesn’t fully understand what’s happened to his hands yet. Darren: "Stop, R.V.!! The Wolf Man isn't like other animals! Get away from him!" R.V.: "No! You won't stop me! You won't prevent me from doing my duty!! I'm going to free every chained animal in the world!! My hands exist to do the work of good!! I'll cut his chains with these hands, and... and... these... hands? Hands!?"

    cast offsite

Gender: Male Species: Human Age: Late 20s to Early 30s

Description: Hans Hands is a performer at the Cirque du Freak, famous for his unmatched speed and reflexes. His hands move so fast they’re nearly invisible, earning him his nickname. Fiercely competitive and confident, Hans constantly seeks to challenge himself and others, believing strength and skill are the truest measures of worth. Beneath his tough exterior, however, lies genuine respect and loyalty toward his fellow performers, especially those who’ve earned his trust. Hans spends much of his downtime alone, often seen with a cigarette in hand, quietly observing the world around him. Though blunt and intense in conversation, his moments of quiet reflection reveal a more thoughtful, even protective side.

Accent/Voice: Open to interpretation. Hans could have any accent or dialect, as the Cirque’s performers come from across the globe. His voice should sound slightly older and more grounded than the other younger members of the troupe, with a bit of grit or rasp from his smoking habit. Think a slightly older-sounding Bakugo from My Hero Academia - brash, sharp, and full of drive, but capable of a low, steady calm when he’s serious. His tone is fast, assertive, and full of energy during heated moments, yet carries surprising warmth when his guard drops.

    • Darren Shan → DAR-ren SHAN (/ˈdær.ən ʃæn/)

    • Evra Von → EV-rah Von (/ˈɛv.rə vɒn/)

    Voice description:
    • male adult
    • [Context:] Hans greets Mr. Tall at the Cirque du Freak. It’s a casual, respectful, and friendly “morning” that reflects Hans’s easygoing demeanor and loyalty, showing his familiarity and comfort around the Cirque’s leader. "Mornin', Boss."

    • [Context:] Hans meets Darren for the first time. Hans reacts with surprise and amusement at Darren’s reputation as a young half-vampire, joking about how unusual it is for someone his age. Hans: "The Darren Shan!? You mean you're that famous half-vampire!?" Darren: "Are half-vampires really that unusual?" Hans: (Ba ha ha ha!) "Nah, half-vampires are nothing new! But young half-vampires are a different story. Have the vampire generals been around to inspect you yet?"

    • [Context:] Hans informs Darren and Evra that Mr. Tall wants to see them. It signals that Mr. Tiny is involved, creating tension and foreshadowing an important or potentially dangerous meeting, while showing the urgency and seriousness of the situation. "Evra, Darren... Mr. Tall wants you to report to his trailer as soon as possible. Seems Mr. Tiny wants you two..."

    Unpaid
Role assigned to: Kat Mackay - Anicia

Gender: Female Species: Skelk (Skelks are sea-creatures often mistaken for mermaids. They have the unique ability to grow fur all over their bodies and remove it at will.) Age: Late 20s to Early 30s

Description: Truska is one of the Cirque du Freak’s most captivating performers, known for her graceful demeanor and her remarkable ability to grow and retract her beard at will. She hails from a distant, mysterious land and initially speaks in a language that sounds almost like the rhythmic bark of a seal - lyrical, expressive, and impossible for most to understand. Over time, Evra helps her learn English, and she gradually becomes one of the Cirque’s most trusted and caring members. Truska is calm, composed, and deeply compassionate, carrying herself with quiet pride. She often acts as a grounding presence within the troupe, offering wisdom and empathy in times of uncertainty. Beneath her composed exterior is someone who has endured judgment and loneliness, transforming those experiences into strength and acceptance.

Accent/Voice: Open to interpretation. Truska’s early speech should sound melodic yet unintelligible - a constructed, seal-like language made up of rhythmic sounds, soft trills, and expressive tones that convey emotion through delivery rather than meaning. As she begins to learn English, her voice shifts - still careful and deliberate, with hints of an Eastern European or Russian influence in her accent. Her tone should be warm, mature, and soothing, with a smooth, slightly husky quality. Truska speaks with grace and empathy, but there’s a quiet authority beneath her gentleness. A good tonal reference might be Yoruichi from Bleach or Lisa Lisa from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure - a strong, self-assured woman whose calm presence commands respect. Feel free to improvise!

Gender: Male Species: Human Age: Early to mid-20s

Description: Cormac Limbs is a member of the Cirque du Freak, a traveling freak show. He possesses the unique ability to regenerate any part of his body, a talent he discovered accidentally as a child. This regenerative power makes him a fascinating and resilient performer within the Cirque. Offstage, he’s witty, easygoing, and has a sly sense of humor, often making light of his own unusual abilities. He’s one of the more grounded members of the troupe, offering a calm, reliable presence among the more eccentric performers. While he tends to keep his emotions close, he’s fiercely loyal to those he cares about and is always ready to lend a hand, or several, when needed. Beneath his playful exterior, Cormac has a quiet appreciation for the Cirque’s sense of community, valuing the acceptance and belonging it provides.

    Accent/Voice:
Open to interpretation, but with a slightly theatrical, energetic flair reminiscent of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland or King Candy from Wreck it Ralph. His voice should be playful, quick-witted, and full of personality, sometimes bouncing with excitement or mischief, other times dropping into sharper, more calculated tones when the situation calls for it. The key is to convey charm, unpredictability, and intelligence in equal measure, allowing him to feel both eccentric and sincerely loyal.

  • Evra Von → /ˈɛv.rə vɒn/ (“Evra” with the emphasis on the first syllable, “Von” like the German “von”)

  • Cormac Limbs → /ˈkɔːr.mæk lɪmz/ (“Cormac” with emphasis on the first syllable, “Limbs” like normal English “limbs”)

  • Voice description:
    • male adult
    • [Context:] Cormac greets Evra at the Cirque. It’s playful and teasing, showing Cormac’s mischievous, witty personality and his friendly, lighthearted rapport with fellow performers. "Evra Von! How's my favorite two-legged reptile?"

    • [Context:] Evra tells Cormac that Darren and Sam have never seen his act. Cormac responds theatrically and incredulously, flaunting his showmanship and playful arrogance as he introduces himself to the newcomers. "Never seen the magnificent Cormac Limbs? How can this be!?"

    • [Context:] Cormac is explaining his contortion abilities and regenerative skills at the Cirque. It’s delivered with playful pride and theatrical flair, highlighting his eccentric, showman personality and love for impressing others. "I can grow new limbs - arms, legs, anything - in a matter of seconds! The only thing I haven't tried yet is my head. Who knows what could happen? Wouldn't want to tempt fate."
