Yancy At The End Of The World!

Yancy At The End Of The World!

Project Overview

Yancy At The End Of The World! Is the game I’m making for this year’s Interactive Fiction Competition.  The titular character, Yancy (name may be changed, gender to be determined) is an aroace person who once wanted to be a photographer, but now believes they don’t have a creative bone in their body. . . That is, until the zombie apocalypse begins, and it gives Yancy the creative spark they need to pick up a camera for the first time.

The game takes place in a world of anthropomorphic animals, humans, and human-animal hybrids.  It will contain comic book style art and some lighthearted elements, but also explore deeper topics like prejudice, coming out, and finding your true self.

The character I (Naomi Norbez, aka Bez, the game developer) am casting for is Yancy (voice: medium to low pitched).  They are a person who has gotten used to the monotony of routine, until zombies start appearing in the world, and life suddenly becomes unpredictable.  They wonder why they never picked up a camera, never pursued that old creative dream, and decide to do so to capture the chaos around them.  The character is also aromantic & asexual, and trying to find the words to come out to their loved ones.

Throughout the game, there are webcam conversations between Yancy and their friend Nekoni–these conversations are fully voice-acted, and are why I need to cast a voice actor.  Nekoni is an old friend from high school who loves photography, and is why Yancy has picked up the creative art.

To audition for the part, you must be 18 or older and on the aroace spectrum.  You will find sample lines on the next page.  Please record your lines as .mp3 files, label them with “Yancy_YourName.mp3” (example: Yancy_NaomiNorbez.mp3), and email them to bezthezebro[at]gmail.com with the subject “Yancy Audition”. You may also submit your audtion on CCC, but the email is required. Please include your name & Discord username in the body of the email, as well as where you are on the aroace spectrum (required), and your social media pages and/or portfolio (both optional).   Payment is $2 per line, or a flat rate of $150, whichever amount ends up being higher.

The deadline to audition is July 1st at 11:59PM EST.  Good luck, and thank you for auditioning!  If you have any questions, contact me on Discord at Norbez.2.0 .

  • (frustrated) My photos never come out as good as yours! It makes me feel like I suck. . .

  • (cheerful) I’m sure you’re going to do great, Nekoni! You’re pretty talented, after all.

  • (trying to come out to Nekoni) You remember in high school, when people said we looked like a couple? I never understood that at all. I always felt like I was missing something. And the older I got, that feeling shifted, and it felt like something inside of me was missing. Until I found the words for it online.
