Broodhollow Comic Dub

Broodhollow Comic Dub

Project Overview

Broodhollow is a cosmic horror webcomic set in USA 1930s, created, written and drawn by Kris Straub. Wadsworth Zane, encyclopedia salesman and anxiety sufferer, has his life changed when he starts seeing ghosts in the strange town called "Broodhollow".

I wish to make a comic fandub. There are no canon voices, so experiment as you wish, but keep in mind the context of the comic (USA 1930s.)

This is my first time finding voice talent from casting call club, so I don't know exactly how long the process will take or how many people will be auditioning. I will be extending the deadline as I see fit.

The webcomic can be read for free here: http://broodhollow.chainsawsuit.com/

An official cast list can be found here: http://broodhollow.chainsawsuit.com/cast/

Please have a decent quality micriphone and no background noise!

Latest Updates

  • Another Broodhollow Update

Hey! Thanks to everyone who auditioned!

As you may have noticed, the casting process has been pretty slow. I have managed to cast everyone except the main character. I really like a lot of the auditions for Wadsworth, and it is really hard to make a final decision.

For this reason, I'm thinking of doing call-backs for all the auditions I really liked. Just a few more lines to help me with the casting.

The lines that have been sent in by people I've already cast are currently being edited! Everything is coming together, one step at a time.

  • Side roles added

If you check the roles, you'll see that a whole bunch of new characters have just been added. These basically cover every character with more than one line in chapter one.

The main character, Wadsworth Zane is still available. A reason I'm so hesitant to cast him is because I'm planning on being very strict with whoever plays him, so I was prefering it to be someone I knew (therefore I don't feel bad about asking them to send lines multiple times.) But as long as you're okay with me asking you to send in the same line a whole bunch of times, then it should be all good!

And for those who are wondering, I have been editing and gathering sound effects and the like, certain parts of the first chapter are editing and only need to add voices. I'll get to that when I cast for Wadsworth, I'm not sure when that will be happening but when it does you'll know about it! :D

  • Broodhollow Comic Dub Update

I have casted 4/8 of the current characters, and extended the deadline for all other characters for the 9th of January 2016 (Happy new year everyone)

Unfortunately production can't begin until I have confirmed the actors for at least Dr Angstrom and Wadsworth. I believe that one of the people who have already auditioned for Wadsworth will end up being cast, but I don't want to cast anyone until casting for Dr Angstrom.

Feel free to ask any questions and I will see you all soon with another update :D

PS. I may update with more Characters to audition for, they would include background characters who only appear in one or two pages. Or I may leave those voices to the odd friend or two I have in real life who don't mind reading just a few lines.

Psychoanalyst, Dr Angstrom is a very competent individual and likes to view himself as one of the more sane citizens of Broodhollow, although he does have his fair share of quirks.

There is no Austrian accent choice on this website, but he is in fact Austrian. I won't be too picky with his accent if you can deliver his lines well.

  • Freud uses the term "defence mechanism" and I can't claim I discovered that.

  • I am Austrian, and apologize for my accent.

  • Mr Zane! Do you know where you are? Do you know the year?

The local snobby rich business owner. Could be viewed as the only human antagonist, Rutherford believes that Wadsworth is a con man and is set on "exposing" him. He is hardly taken seriously by any other character, and is proven to be one of the more stupider characters.

  • Zane, you say? When I'm finished with you, you'll wish your name was... Not that.

  • Fraud! This hoop-faced goon is a flim-flam sam, and I'll-

  • You've made a powerful enemy in Rutherford Planchett, little man.

Cadavre is a French skeleton/ghost who makes frequent appearances in Wadsworth's dreams, often giving him advice or pondering over the mysteries of the world.

"Cadavre" is also a three page comic strip featuring the skeleton that the author of the webcomic makes when he is too busy to update with a new page.

Cadavre's third line is delivered a few seconds after being punched in the face. (The word "Zut" is French for "heck", it's not the sound he makes while being punched, just a heads up)

  • Ah ouais... She certainment seems like one, non?

  • Whether we understand the game or not, we all play it. C'est la vie.

  • Zut! Speaking with the mortals, it is always a game! None of us enjoy this -- comment le dit-on -- nonsense! (Flustered/Insulted)

Iris is an enthusiastic teen, a good friend to Wadsworth and Dr Angstrom and arguably the most "normal" character. Reliable and helpful.

These are actually three characters, all who are unsepearable and do not necessarily need to be voiced by different people.

These boys have a brutish appearance, and are often mistaken for mobsters or thugs, when in fact they are fuzzy teddybears with hearts of gold.

  • Hello hello hello!

  • Big Rascals aren't they?

  • Haw haw haw! Look at his face!

This character only appears for a scene towards the end, but plays an integral part to the climax of the first act. His words are illustrated differently to the rest of the character's speech bubbles, and I am interested in haveing his voice digitally distorted to make him sound more "creepy."

  • You made this so... easy...

  • Scream if you... wish... I would not deny anyone... their... instinct...

  • RRAAGH... HHHIISSSSSS....

  • In brotherhood, in unity, in the spirit of finer days ahead!

  • Let the festivities begin!
