Broken Chord: A GCMM
Project Overview
Alison Reed is a high school girl, and her twin sister Samantha has always been better than her. Follow Alison and Samantha as they struggle to understand each other and their place in the world. They will realize that it's ok to ask for help sometimes.
"Broken Chord" is a play on the "The hated child becomes a princess" trope. We wanted to make a realistic, interesting, and actually good version of that concept. (Some of the character designs aren't final and will most likely be changed later)

Alison Reed is socially inept. She doesn’t think before she speaks, and is very stubborn. Thankfully, her friends are used to it, but she has trouble talking to people she doesn’t know. She has a passion for singing, and will often stay up late working on the newest song. Much to the dismay of her mother, she does not care about her appearance.
(Nervous) “I have no idea what any of that means!”
(Blunt) “Stop being such a crybaby.”
(Cautious) “Can we do another take? I feel like I didn’t do the bridge right.”
Samantha is the golden child. She’s the most popular one at school, she gets the best grades, and she’s the spitting image of her mother. She’s very gullible, though, which means she is often taken advantage of. She is obsessed with her material possessions, and not much else.
(Cheerful) “I’d be happy to come along! You caught me on my free day.”
(Nervous) “I hope I have enough money for this...”
(Questioning) “Can we go grab some ice cream? I know a good place nearby!”
Quinn is an American girl with a deep voice. She’s extremely loud and outgoing, and is a very passionate person. Whether it’s photography, or making fun of her brother, she will talk about it all day long. She is also surprisingly intelligent.
(Deflated) “God, you’re such a handful. How does Alison put up with you?”
(Irritated) “Look, it isn’t my fault you hung out with Zach instead of studying!”
(Laughing) “Dillan, oh my God, you are such an idiot!”
Dillan is an American boy with a loud, bubbly voice. He is quite stupid, with an ego that is a bit too large. Nonetheless, he’s very helpful and eager to help his friends. He often argues with his sister, Quinn, but in the end, he’s always willing to back her up.
(Cheerful) “Check out my new contacts! I got them yesterday.”
(Angrily) “Hey, shut up, Quinn! I’m WAY smarter than you, anyways!”
(Deflated) “I wasn’t even cheating! I just...was taking inspiration from Quinn’s paper!”
Millie is your typical airhead. Her shrill, annoying, “valley girl” voice is perfect for getting her friend Sylvia’s attention. She always knows exactly what she wants, because it’s exactly what Sylvia wants.
(Excited) “Oh, my, God! These bags are so cute! I have to have one.”
(Whiny) “Why am I so poor?!”
(Angry) “If I find out who pickpocketed me, they are gonna get it!”
Sylvia is your typical spoiled girl. Because she is self conscious of her height and deep “valley girl” voice, she surrounds herself with feminine clothing and friends. She is conniving, and a master of manipulation.
(Irritated) “If I knew where I last put it, maybe I would know where it is!”
(Dismissive) “Getting fired just means more free time!”
(Snooty) “I think that’s a few too many calories for you.”
Despite Leyla’s adorable appearance, she is very stern and in control of her feisty friends. Her high pitched “loli” voice makes it difficult to take her seriously, but she truly means business.
(Stern) “Shelby, can you pipe down? People are watching us.”
(Irritated) “I hate when people spread rumors. Especially when people believe them.”
(Shocked) “I’m not immature! I’m just short.”
Amica has always been the brains of her friend group. Her low voice is typically overshadowed by anyone louder than her, but she always finds a way to get her point across. She is extremely loyal to the ones she loves, and extremely cold towards the ones she doesn’t.
(Cheerful) “I can show you around! I know the place like the back of my hand.”
(Deflated) “Shelby, Leyla is talking to you...”
(Angry) “That is not how friends speak to each other!”
Shelby is a blabbermouth. She always has the newest set of personal stories to tell her friends. She’s a free spirit, really only listening to Leyla’s orders.
(Excited) “Ooh, let me help! I’m the best at finding anything!”
(Rushes) “Anyways, I was on my hands and knees looking for it, and then I saw a little bit of something glittery! It was glitter. I never found the earring.”
(Yelling) “What makes you think you can glare at my friends?!”
Lana is the mother of Alison and Samantha Reed. She is a model, and therefore is very knowledgeable about making good first impressions. She is great at steering her children in the right direction, but when things get chaotic, she doesn’t know what to do.
(Yelling) “Girls, dinner is ready! Come set the table!”
(Stern) “Quiet down, I am trying to sleep. I have a shoot early in the morning.”
(Sincere) “What’s wrong, honey? That’s a great grade!”
Jesse loves playing piano, and is constantly trying their best to make themselves known. They would die for their family, but playing at family gatherings works, too. They always look cheerful, even when they’re truly exhausted.
(Cheerful) “I’d be glad to help! I haven’t had a gig in a while.”
(Tired) “How long have I been practicing? I need sleep...”
(Exasperated) “Another take? Alison, you sounded fine...”
Zachary is a British foreign exchange student. He is fascinated with everything American, and has an intense love for their sports. He is very charismatic, and typically is the most popular one in the room.
(Cheerful) “Nice game, everyone! See you tomorrow!”
(Encouraging) “Hey, we’ll get them next time! We just have to keep practicing.”
(Sincere) “Oh...thank you, Dillan. That means a lot...”
Mrs. Oliver is a biology teacher who doesn’t make enough money to control her idiotic students.
(Pleading) “Can everyone please quiet down?”
(Stern) “Dillan, no cheating. Bring your paper here, it is now worth a zero.”
(Tired) “I need an aspirin...”
James loves being the center of attention, which is why he does all of the school announcements. His loud voice is perfect for keeping up class morale.
(Yelling) “Is everyone having the time of their lives?!”
(Sincere) “Aw, congrats, you two! That’s very sweet.”
(Nervous, then yelling) “A-Am I doing a good job...? Just kidding, I know I am!”
Oliver is a cashier at Tarteli, the luxury store. He couldn’t care less about his job, but he has to work there since his parents cut him off after he got a tattoo.
(Exhausted) “Can you, like, not shoplift...? I don’t feel like dealing with that...”
(Blunt) “Ma’am, I’m going to have to call security if you keep this up.”
(Sympathetic) “I’m sorry, but your card declined. Should I try again?”
Mr. Sanders is a taxi driver. He tries his best to make his riders as comfortable as possible.
(Blunt) “Ma’am, that was not a wrong turn, I am taking a shortcut.”
(Blunt) “If I don’t keep the meter running, I could get fired.”
(Questioning) “Would you like any music?”
Jessica Arrow is a very well known pop star. Alison and Samantha love her, especially.
