This is a fan recording group for the musical Be More Chill, created by Joe Iconis. Jeremy Heere is just an average teenager. That is, until he finds out about “The Squip” – a tiny supercomputer that promises to bring him everything he desires most: a date with Christine, an invite to the raddest party of the year and a chance to survive life in his suburban New Jersey high school. But is being the most popular guy in school worth the risk?
This group will use the app Smule to record songs from the musical (including Loser, Geek, or Whatever!) that include added dialogue from the show not heard in the album versions of the songs.
We are looking for singers! You also must be able to deliver the dialogue at least believably, if not well.
The final recordings will be saved and compiled into a long video that will be uploaded to YouTube. Everyone will be credited and their profiles on Smule, YouTube, and CastingCall will be linked. The separate songs will also be uploaded individually as shorter videos.
GENDER DOES NOT MATTER for this, but you must be able to hit all the notes that character sings. As long as you can do that, you have a pretty good shot at the part!
You may audition for as many roles as you like, but please only submit one audition per role!

Oh, man, it was amazing! They were communicating with each other, they were linked, which means if you consider the kind of high-frequency sonic disturbance needed to wipe a system that powerful-- oh, right. Uh ... Turns out, you didn't have to destroy every SQUIP. Just one! And the rest? [mimmic explosions and screaming]

The SQUIP is a pill-sized supercomputer from Japan created to guide anyone towards popularity and success. It oozes charm and is very suave. Unfortunately, its programming isn't compatible with the real world, and it realizes the only way to make everyone happy is to control them all...

Christine is a bubbly, energetic teen who loves theatre more than anything. She's sweet and perky, yet a bit sarcastic at times. When she falls for Jake, she unknowingly leaves Jeremy in the dust.

That was really one of my best roles, did you see that? I was incredibly commanding, I think. It made me feel like there just aren't enough strong roles for women in theatre these days, particularly high school theatre. Do you find that? Because I totally find that--
I still remember how it felt. It's like you said. Like I'd never have to ... not know anything again. Mine sounded like Hillary Clinton. It's embarrassing to find out that deep down ... I just want things to be easy.

Rich is the school's SQUIP-dealer ... or, at least he is to Jeremy. He's a short bully with a dirty mind, but deep down he has a kind heart. Taken over by the SQUIP for much of the musical, he eventually burns down a house in order to get it out of his head and be himself again.

Hey, Tall Ass! Where's my money? [pause] Jeremy! This is awesome. I mean, you know, I could have used the money 'cause things are kinda rough at home if you know what I'm sayin', but... yo, f---ing dads, right?
And I got a hookup. This guy who works at Payless Shoes At the Menwell Park Mall. It's 600-- Yes, it's worth it! Bring the money in on Monday. You'll see.

Jake is the coolest guy in school. He's on the football team (as well as a billion other extra curriculars) and though he teases the non-popular kids a bit, he has a kind heart and means well. He has a pretty positive self-image for the most part and is a little to wrapped up in himself sometimes. He takes a genuine liking to Christine after breaking up with Chloe, though eventually letting her go since she obviously likes Jeremy.

Cool... Can I say something stupid? When I saw you die in the play last year... That was like the saddest I’d felt in a long time. It was like everything in my life, all the pressure I feel to be the best, at everything, all the time... Suddenly felt so
small. And then, when you got up at the end for your victory dance... I remember thinking, “I’m glad that girl’s not dead...before I ever got the chance to know her.” Stupid, right?

Chloe is the hottest girl in school, and she lets that label define her. She's a gossip, a queen bee, and she cares about her looks and whether she has a boyfriend or not a lot more than she probably should. She is easily jealous and HATES Madeline, a girl in her grade, with a burning passion. Since she used to date Jake and still has feelings for him, she tries to get Christine not to go out with him. She is crass and manipulative, and will up the sexy if she needs to ... especially when attempting to hook up with Jeremy because of her jealousy of Brooke.

I don't know why she's so crazy about you. You're not that cute. No offense. You know she's not that innocent! That whole wounded puppy routine? It's how she gets all the guys. She acts all helpless so they want to protect her. I mean, not that I care.
Jake's not coming. He's at Model U.N. Or whatever it is this week. You know Jake. Always jumping around from ... one extra curricular to another. Well, he loves to try new things. He just doesn’t always stay with them after he ... tries them. If you know what I mean. I would hate for you to think that the reason Jake’s not here ... is he’s already bored of you.

Even though she's mainly identified as "the second hottest girl in school", Brooke means well and has a kind heart ... even if she isn't the brightest at times. She develops a crush on Jeremy but is betrayed by Chloe when she tries to hook up with him. She's a bit ditzy, and definitely sounds like it.

They're saying it was a freak hockey accident ... oh my God, you don't know. Eminem's dead! I mean, I was never into him because he was like super old and kinda mean to women, but I know you liked him so...

Jenna Rolan is the gossip of the school. She knows everything about everyone, and will tell anyone your secrets if they'll listen. She's a bit insecure but doesn't show it, and doesn't really have a best friend (though she hangs out with Chloe and Brooke often). Jenna comes off as strong and confident, even if she isn't completely that on the inside.

Mr. Heere, Jeremy's dad, is a guy who's heart is in the right place, but his actions ... are a bit lacking. Depressed from his recent divorce, he has let himself go and become sort of pitiful, unable to even put on his pants in the morning. Still, when he realizes something is up with Jeremy, he steps up and becomes the dad he needs to be.

Do you love him? He can be a little shit sometimes. We both know that. But that’s no excuse to sit around burning incense while he turns himself into a monster!
Pretty small role, may be used as an added voice in the ensemble.
Mr. Reyes is the drama teacher at Jeremy's school. He's pretty relaxed about the class, and has seemed to give up on life. Still, his dreams to get to Broadway one day are still hoped for deep down.

I’ve been dreaming of the day I get to stage William Shakespeare’s classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”— and today that dream dies.
