Axel and BelBel Episode 1

Project Overview

The main character Axel is a mildly psychic introvert who can't tell the difference between the living and the dead. As a result a whole bunch of sad ghosts start flocking to him with their problems.

Axel's friend/sidekick is this random girl named BelBel, who can SEE THE FUTURE by only a couple minutes, and only when the future entails immediate physical harm.

Together they deal with the problems of the dead as Axel tries to lie, cut corners, and weasel his way out of every encounter.

  • Casting

I thought I should probably mention how casting is going. There are multiple parts to Episode 1 in order to make my own workload manageable. Because of this I have only been casting characters in order of the Part that they are in. That is the main reason that casting is taking so long, but I also wanted to make sure that there was enough time to find voices that fit the characters. Episode 1 is most likely going to have three Parts. Part 2 is ready to begin production. Liam and Rachel will appear in Part 3. I hope this helps anyone who was curious.

His voice is that of a teenage boy, but mildly monotone mixed in with annoyance. He believes himself to be more clever than those around him and is no stranger to witty jokes and puns. A good example of what his personality is like would be Gregory House from House M.D. or the twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) from Doctor Who.

  • I know what clairvoyant means. (annoyed)

  • Says the danger dowser...

You know, dowsing? Like rain dowsing? (sigh) Never mind.

  • Hey Uncle Jay. How's life?

Uncle Jay is the main ghost in this episode. He died of a heart attack just a few hours before he could give his nephew Liam, something important. Uncle Jay misses his nephew and misses being alive. When he meets Axel he realizes that his unfinished business could be corrected and that Liam could receive what Uncle Jay wanted to give him so he can finally move on.

When voicing him you should sound sad, but cautiously optimistic. Uncle Jay has a lot of spark for a dead guy. Keep in mind that this is the kind of old man that can take a pun about his own death and make one in return.
Axel: Come on, there's no need to be in such low spirits.
Uncle Jay: You honestly can't blame me for being sad young man. At least I'm not soulless. (chuckles)

  • Oh, it's you again? ...And you brought a friend. Can she see me too? (questioningly/cautiously happy)

  • You really want to be alone? I miss people. I miss my nephew. (sad)

  • In my defense, I didn't know I was going to die. (blunt)

Liam is a boy in his late teens. After the death of his uncle he couldn't bear to live in the same house where he died. He ends up moving in with his girlfriend and tries to start a new life with her.
As long as you sound like an American boy in his late teens I'm not too picky about the specific type of voice.

  • Who are you? (confused/distrustful)

  • You knew my uncle? (confused)

  • (teary)Oh...my...god. Is this? Is this what I think it is?

Rachel is Liam's girlfriend that he moves in with after the death of his uncle. She cares deeply for Liam and does her best to provide emotional support. She is protective of him and will chew out anyone who would cause Liam's pain to resurface.

  • Yea... He lives here. What do you want? (confused and distrustful)

  • Oh, oh, ok then. (understanding/sad) I didn't think we'd hear anything else about old Jay. I don't know how much more Liam can take.

  • Liam, Liam, oh my god. (happy/bittersweet/surprise) I can't believe it!
