Avatar: Rise of Kiyoshi (animatic one-shot)
Project Overview
Fire, Air, Water, Earth.
For generations, the four nations lived in harmony from a delicate balance over seen by the master of all four elements - The Avatar. After Avatar Kuruk's passing, the cycle must continue, in a different age, with a different avatar.
Having read both the Kiyoshi books I naturally fell in love with it. So much so that I decided to try a one-shot adaptation of the first chapter of Rise of Kiyoshi. If it gets well received I may consider making it a full series but for now this is just a passion project.
[note: the visual art here is not mine nor is it going to be used in the final product, this is simply for points of reference]

Kelsang is an Air Nomad that also serves as the surrogate father to Kiyoshi, and Avatar Kuruk's Airbending companion. Before he knew she was the avatar, he took Kiyoshi under his wing, and served the earth sages along side her as a guiding figure for the young avatar. Appearance wise I imagine he was a bit bigger than the average nomad considering he'd been away from the temple and wasnt eating the same things they ate there. So I imagine if Zaheer was actually a good guy.
(warmhearted) Why, hello there little one, would you like a toy?
(trying to break the tension with lightheartedness ) It's like Kuruk used to always say to us, "better to ask forgiveness than await permission.
(shocked, hearing Kiyoshi "make up" a poem that only Kuruk knew) Kiyoshi...how...how did you learn that poem?!
Jiangzhu is an earthbender, another old friend of Avatar Kuruk tasked with finding the next avatar. However, he was using his hold over the avatar to gain more influence and power and ultimately becomes the main antagonist in Rise of Kiyoshi. I imagined his appearance to Admiral Zhao from The Last Airbender except an Earthbender, I would suggest similar to the suave calm tones of Long Feng ("there is no war in Ba Sing Se")
(concerned for his friend) I don’t know what counted for wrath among air benders. But would you really ruin the air nomad test to make a child happy?
[irritated after dealing with dozens of other mouthy parents insisting their children are the avatar] For the last time, I am NOT negotiating a salary, the avatar is NOT a paying job!
[menacingly] A true master is one who can bend people to his will, not the elements. But you Kiyoshi, you are unbendable. So I'll just have to break you instead.
Hei-ran is another friend of avatar Kuruk tasked with leading and instructing the new avatar in the ways of firebending, she holds some bitter sentiment towards Kuruk due to a falling out they had near the end of his life. But she is still a proud fire bender and seeks to constantly help improve her students.
[narrating, similar to how the other avatar openings had done] For generations, the four nations had lived together in harmony, overseen by the master of the elements - the Avatar.
[Agitated at the firelords disobedience] You may be the Firelord now Zoryu, but I still remember your days under my tutelage. If you think I can't still make you do a hundred hot-squats right now you're sorely mistaken!
[Rushing into a room to see everyone attacked by an angry spirit] Kiyoshi! Rangi! What the flameo is going on in here?!
Last but not least is Kiyoshi, the reincarnation of avatar Kuruk, however her beginnings don't suggest that in the slightest. She's goodhearted, but originally it was believed another was the avatar instead of her, and as such starts out less like the Kiyoshi we know her as today and closer to a humble servant woman. I'd like the person I have voicing Kiyoshi be able to voice both the older and younger Kiyoshi, as she's first introduced as a child.
[Note: I'm using Suki as a visual reference because its close to what I imagine her looking like at the age she's supposed to be in this story]
(as a child, shy, nervous) um...my name is...Kiyoshi.
(As a teenager, playfully teasing her friend), Why would I have to worry? I have a strong bender like you looking out for me.
(Line from original avatar): The wisdom I offer to you is this, Aang: only justice can bring about peace.
